Medical Needs: Stefan has appointment to be neutered on March 18th at BVSPCA in Dover on Horsepond Road. Keeping this appointment is a condition of adoption. Foster to adopt families must live within one hour of DE and be willing to travel here for the pending appointment.
Housebroken: Once Stefan figured out he should be going to the bathroom outside he has not had any accidents inside. However he will only go when off the leash in a fenced in area at this time.
Crate trained: Stefan doesn’t mind the crate. He eats in a crate and will go in for without trouble when he’s ready to eat or go to bed. He settles quickly.
Good in the car: He is a great passenger.
Good on a leash: Everyday is a step in the right direction. Stefan was terrified of the leash at first and would freeze in place. Now he will happily walk close to you.
Energy level: Stefan is very laid back, he is happy to just lay near you. He is still young and will get very excited to see you or when you move.
Need a fenced in yard: Yes. Due to his unique quirk of refusing to potty while on a leash.
Dog Friendly: Yes, is currently fostered with other dogs. They get along well and play together.
If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive homes? Yes, due to Stefan’s history he doesn’t understand how to be a dog. Another none dominant dog will be able to help him learn.
Cat Friendly? Unknown, with proper introductions they should get along fine.
Kid Friendly: Yes! Stefan loves kids.
If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed with? Any with supervision. He loves all people no matter their size but is still learning not to jump.
Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them?
The best thing about Stefan is his lean, he will choose his emotional support person, when he leans into you… you can just feel his worries melt away. Stefan is very stoic and calm… once he greets you. Since being groomed and removing large mats Stefan has learned the joy of movement - including jumping up to say hello, parkour off the couch and RUNNING through the yard at full speed. Once the energy has been released Stfan will follow you like a shadow and just wants to be near you. He came from a situation where he was raised in an apartment with both his parents and his siblings. Going outside, leashes, the vet and the groomers were all new experiences. With each new experience I see his confidence grow. He will benefit from socialization with both people and other dogs. Stefan is very submissive if there is a dominant dog in the home. He doesn’t understand if he’s in “trouble” or if the dog is trying to play. Stefan’s perfect home would have parents who don’t mind a shadow, who will teach him how to play with toys and a confident furry sibling for him to learn from.
