I'll stay on the smaller side when I'm all grown up, making me the perfect size for hiking, road trips, neighborhood walks, and snuggling up after a day of fun. I'm full of puppy energy and absolutely love exploring the world around me! Playing with other dogs is one of my favorite things, and I always seem to find something exciting to investigate. Hi, I`m Penelope. I may not be the kind of girl who runs up to greet every new person I meet, but if you`re willing to give me a little time, I promise I`ll show you just how special it feels to earn the trust of a shy dog.The people who know me best will tell you that underneath my timid exterior is a sweet, affectionate pup who loves to snuggle and simply be close to the people I love. Once I feel safe, my personality blossoms, and there`s nothing I enjoy more than making my people smile.When I first arrived at the shelter as a stray, the world felt like a very scary place. I wasn`t familiar with walking on a leash, and the busy shelter environment was overwhelming. I was so frightened that I barely wanted to eat. Thankfully, I was given the chance to move into a foster home, and that`s where everyone started to see the real me.It turns out I`m a pretty smart cookie! I learned my daily routine quickly, mastered `sit` in no time, and I`m always excited to learn something new. I love positive encouragement and genuinely want to make my people proud. I`m still polishing my house manners and crate training, but I`m eager to keep learning with a family that`s patient and consistent.One thing that gives me confidence is having another dog around. I absolutely love my canine friends, and they help me feel brave when I`m unsure about something new. Because of that, I`d really like a home with another friendly dog who can help show me that the world is full of good things.I`ve also lived with young children and done well, but I`ll still need a family that understands I like to take introductions at my own pace. My perfect family will have previous experience with dogs and understand that trust isn`t something you rush, it`s something you build together.Because new people and places can still make me nervous, my family will need to meet me several times before I go home so we can get to know each other. I`ll also need a family that`s mindful of my tendency to bolt if I`m frightened, helping me stay safe while my confidence continues to grow.The best things in life are worth waiting for, and I think I`m one of them. Tell me..... have you ever found yourself lost, hurt and starving??? I mean, it happens to the best of us right? Yes, it happened to me!! :( It was really scary! I was hiding behind a "fireworks" sign on the access road, big TRUCKS on my right side and the railroad tracks on my left! It was "ruff" but not so much anymore ;) I mean, this chick showed up with FOOD and a CAR and a LEASH and COMPASSION..... and she SAAAAVVVEEDDDD ME!! NOW, I have food every day, clean water, protection from the traffic and the weather and LOTS of friends!! I am living the rescue life....pretty soon the rescue peeps told me i will be living the ADOPTED LIFE :) I am a ruggedly handsome boy with an incurable positivity!
