Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Female basset hound mixBella’s owner, who has provided good care for her, needs to surrender Bella because of her increasing work responsibilities. Bella is a 49-pound spayed female, approximately 6+ years old and is a basset mixed with some other breed. She is up to date on all her vetting, house trained, microchipped,  and is in good health. Bella is shy and fearful of strangers, at first, but after warming  up, she loves attention and affection. She is hesitant around other dogs, slowly becoming comfortable and might play a little, but otherwise keeps to herself. Bella pulls when on leash and barks and lunges at other dogs when on the leash with her owner. She is best with dogs of similar size or larger and has never had issues with other dogs when attending day care. She has no experience with cats nor much experience with children. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 9, 2024, 1:35 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Update: May 4, 2024. Jellybean’s cherry eye and entropion have been surgically corrected, and she has been spayed. She is ready for her new home! Happy little Jellybean is a charming little dog. She is the perfect “portable” size!  Unfortunately, it seems as if she was assembled from leftover parts! Besides her eye abnormalities, Jellybean’s lower jaw is much shorter than her upper jaw, giving her a large overbite. She is able to eat normally, although some types of dishes are easier for her than others. Wide and flat is an easier shape for her than narrow and deep. She also has a stiff-legged gait in her front and rear legs, as though her elbows and knees don’t bend. But, she can scamper and frolic with the best of them! Jellybean is happy, friendly and gets along well with other dogs and is even good with cats. She wants nothing more than to be in the lap, or at the feet of her people. Jellybean rides nicely in the car, too! She will ride on the seat, or in a crate. Jellybean is pretty quiet, too, which is a good thing, because her bark is high pitched and unpleasant. (Got beagle?).  Really, Jellybean’s only drawbacks are that she needs more consistent house training and that she is often underfoot, which can be a tripping hazard. The fact that Jellybean so readily accepts a crate is helpful for housetraining. She uses a doggie door in her foster home. She spent a week in a condo with people who could supervise her, or crate her when she couldn’t be supervised, and there were no accidents. Jellybean is a charming dog! Did we say that already? She is now spayed and has had her eyes rechecked by her ophthalmologist, and everything looks good. All Jellybean needs is some “artificial tears“ ointment in her right eye, once or twice a day. That‘s it! That’s her “special needs.” Jellybean’s back story…as told to Golden Gate Basset Rescue: “I don’t know how it happened but around the 18th of March, I was lost, wandering alone on the streets in what I am told was an industrial area of Stockton.I don’t know how long I was cold and hungry but, luckily for me, an animal control officer found me and took me to the animal shelter. How I managed for any amount of time on my own, being a little 22-pound, (4) year old basset/beagle mix, is nothing short of a miracle. The shelter contacted GGBR who picked me up from the shelter and delivered me to one of their loving foster homes. You see, I am a very friendly, lively girl doggie, who wants nothing more than to be in the care of someone who adores me. Now I receive all the attention I need in addition to having food, a warm home, a human to follow constantly, and medical attention for my eyes. Yes, my eyes were a problem but I was told they would be fixed by the special doggie eye doctor. You can see by my early photos that I had cherry eye in both eyes. Not only that, my eyelids, both top and bottom, turned into my eyes, an uncomfortable condition called eye lid entropion. It was thought that I may be blind but the eye doctor said that I have vision, which I knew, and that my eyes would function and feel better once the surgery was done. It cost $4400 to have the surgery and GGBR felt that it was a necessity for me. I am very grateful to anyone who can help my eyes feel better by donating on my behalf to GGBR.”  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 9, 2024, 1:35 am
