Adoption fee: $700 If you’ve ever dreamed of having your very own low-riding love bug with the heart of a golden retriever and the body of a limousine, allow us to introduce Dump Truck. At 9–10 months old and about 30 pounds of long, low, Basset-type perfection, this shelter rescue has officially hauled his way straight into our hearts. We are, without exaggeration, obsessed. Let’s address the name. Yes, he’s called Dump Truck. No, he does not beep when he backs up. But he does haul an impressive load of love, delivers full-body wiggles on arrival, and will absolutely dump himself right at your feet for belly rubs. He is sturdy, substantial, and built for maximum snuggling capacity. Dump Truck wakes up early with the family, bright-eyed and ready to clock in for his most important job: Being the Very Bestest Boi. He heads straight to the backyard for his morning potty break, then comes inside for breakfast. After that, he happily supervises the household morning routine, especially keeping close tabs on his favorite little human. He adores the foster’s 11 year old son and follows him from room to room like a devoted, low-slung shadow. On work-from-home days, Dump Truck lounges nearby while keeping an eye on things. With the doggie door open, he’ll wander outside to soak up the sunshine and stretch out for a sunbeam nap before returning inside to check in for a cuddle. On days when the family is out, he relaxes in a playpen area stocked with water, toys, and chews. He might voice a brief opinion about your departure — just a small protest from the Union of Adorable Long Dogs — but he settles quickly and waits quietly for your return. Evenings are for dinner, a short walk if the weather cooperates, and family time. He walks beautifully on leash with no pulling. He notices other dogs and may offer a polite bark now and then, but he responds easily to gentle corrections. Once home, he unwinds with the family, usually parked near his favorite kid. At bedtime, he trots off on his own to claim his beloved squishy bean bag chair in the son’s room and sleeps soundly through the night. Independent sleeper by night, professional cuddle consultant by day. When Dump Truck first arrived, he was friendly but a little cautious. He welcomed gentle affection but didn’t immediately seek it out, and his appetite was light as he adjusted. By day three, the engine was fully running. His appetite returned, his confidence blossomed, and his true personality rolled in. He started requesting cuddles, offering belly-up invitations, playing with toys, and zooming around with joyful confidence. His energy level is wonderfully adaptable. With adults, he’s content to nap nearby and lounge on the couch. With kids, he happily shifts into play mode, running around the yard while staying gentle and patient. He has been around children ages 8–12 and is consistently kind, affectionate, and appropriate. Dump Truck is housetrained and reliably uses the doggy door. He has had no accidents in the home. He tolerates a crate for car rides but prefers the luxury accommodations of soft beds at night. He enjoys chew toys and treats and has been known to bury a treasure in the yard for later excavation. He does not bark inside the house, though he may alert bark outside if other dogs stroll by. What truly sets Dump Truck apart is his presence. Everyone who meets him — neighbors, friends, even strangers on walks — immediately falls in love. He has a warm, steady, deeply affectionate way about him. He forms strong bonds with his people and seems happiest simply being included in whatever the family is doing. His ideal home is one where he can be part of the action — family dinners, backyard playtime, movie nights on the couch. He thrives on companionship and inclusion. He doesn’t need constant entertainment; he just wants to belong. In summary, Dump Truck may be low to the ground, but he operates at maximum capacity when it comes to love. He is gentle, funny, affectionate, adaptable, and truly one of those dogs who makes a house feel like home.
