Rudy is approximately 9 years old, and was adopted from Michiana Humane Society in 2018. She grew up with another dog and 3 kids. She has spent the last 2 years with cats. She is extremely docile with adults and LOVES affection. She has recently shown food aggression around the kids and has attacked the cats 2 times in the last 2 weeks. She would thrive in an adult only home, with humans who stay home often or are able to take her on adventures with them. She loves belly rubs and long walks. She has never bitten a human but has bitten the cats. She will growl if anyone nears her food. This is extremely devastating for our family, but I can’t risk her aggression generalizing to the kids, as it’s posing a safety risk to my family. She is very loyal to the person she bonds to, and I’ve never met a person who didn’t fall in love with her. I want her to find a safe, loving family that can give her the time and attention she deserves as she continues aging, to help with her anxiety 🩷

Click here for Arnold's Facebook Album June 2026: Arnold has found a loving foster home- YAY!! DNA results are in and Arnold and Dempster are 86% Beagle with another 6% Bassett and Labrador. They do have longer bodies like a Bassett Hound but sound all Beagle. Arnold, Dempster and Queenie as seen in their original Memphis, TN shelter video: https://youtube.com/shorts/FdASOSHTyP4?feature=share were dumped by family members after their owner died. All 3 tested positive for heartworms and all surely have tick borne disease and I can only imagine how bad Queenie's teeth are. They are all now safe in the Chicago area after a transport out of Memphis on 9-26. These 3 dogs have suffered some neglect besides their health care neglect, but with some time and patience they will learn to trust humans. Queenie has moved to her own foster. Arnold and Dempster just need a lot of human interaction and cuddles to help build their confidence. They are great with other dogs so a foster with confident well socialized dogs in the home will help them adjust to kindness. We need some exceptional fosters or foster to adopt homes that will help with their heartworm slow kill treatment plan. If you can help a frightened, neglected Beagle over come some serious neglect and learn to trust humans again, please PM me. He was a timid little guy back then but he is doing so much better now and getting more confident everyday. He is even starting to come up for pets and is getting used to being loved on. Because of my dogs he has learned that coming to pet for lov'n is kinda nice. Helping a frightened dog can be very rewarding and I hope I can find someone like me in the Chicago area that has time and patience to help him continue to learn to trust that some folks are nice. DNA results are in and Arnold and Dempster are 86% Beagle with another 6% Bassett and Labrador. They do have longer bodies like a Bassett Hound but sound all Beagle. February 2026: I've had Dempie in temp foster care for a few weeks. He's still a bit shy and unsure of me so he would really need a very patient, loving person willing to work with him. Click here for Jed's Facebook Album September 2025: Jed is a very handsome Beagle (maybe mixed with Basset a few generations ago) that came to us from the Brownsville shelter in Tennessee in late August. He was found as a stray and was covered in ticks. He's suffered some neglect that includes sadly a heartworm diagnosis and he will need a dental. His first tick panel does show Rocky Mountain spotted fever and his blood work shows that he was quite a sick camper, but he is really feeling quite well in such a short time. Jed is your typical sweet, sometimes loud Beagle. He is so good with every dog he meets and he is also cat safe. In spite of his past life, he is a gentle soul and he loves to be everywhere you are. Jed is doing GREAT in foster care, eating very well, taking his meds, being a very good boy in his crate overnight and hanging out with his foster buddies outside. My hope is to find a loving foster to adopt home in the Chicago area to help with our heartworm slow-kill program.
