Story
At one year of age, Josie has matured into a fun and independent, medium-sized, mixed breed dog. Her markings remind us of a shepherd, but her legs and body length are more like a basset hound. Josie’s months as a puppy had some rough patches behaviorally, but she started to turn the corner after landing in foster care with a professional dog trainer. She is funny, playful, outgoing and knows several commands. Josie loves to run laps in the yard, is reliable with her house training, walks well on a leash and willingly sleeps in her kennel most nights. Josie likes other dogs, but we’re still recommending her as an only pet, preferably with no small children. She loves to chew on Nyla bones and needs a home that will provide structure and consistency. Suggested adoption donation: $300.  Adoption form available at nebraskanokill.org   October 4, 2024, 8:05 pm

Story
He is as quick as lightening so if he sees an open door he will try to run. I'm too old to stop him or chase him. He is a well matured dog and knows commands. He loves his humans. We moved to another apt it allows dogs but the main street is less than 10 feet from the apt and he has almost gotten hit several times. Worried for his safety.

Story
Nova is also such a good girl - she is calm, follows you around, and never tries to get into anything. Nova is a little timid around new people, but she warms up quickly & will be glued to your side. Nova would do well with regular walks, but she does love to run as fast as she can in a fenced yard, so we require she go to a home with a fenced yard so she can do her zoomies. Nova will do well with a single person, retired couple, a family with kids who know how to be gentle with her, and she would absolutely love a companion dog as a playmate. Even though she's a little wobbly on the back legs due to a back injury with her previous owner, she gets around well and loves to run and play! She had been attacked by a Great Dane which injured her back, leaving her scared and intimidated by larger dogs. We have been taking her to a veterinary chiropractor for acupuncture and adjustments and she is feeling tons better! We encourage her adopter to continue with that for her to keep her at her best. Nova needs to avoid too many stairs, and prefers floors with traction. Nova is slow to sit, lay, or stand/up on command but does it in her own time then she's off running. She does great with come, kennel, etc.Nova does great in her kennel. When out of the kennel for the day she can go up to four hours between potty breaks, she will go to the door to let you know she needs to potty. She and the resident dog are about the same size and get along great. Nova loves cats and rabbits (per previous owner). Nova and the resident dog have been eating within a few feet of each other with no issues. Nova is happy to share her toys and people! Nova doesn't know many commands, so we're working on the basics. She is food motivated and ready to learn. We hope you will fall in love with our worried-looking, wrinkled-forehead, little princess! Requirements to adopt Nova: *Home with a fenced yard *Active person/family *Another small, playful dog as a companion *A home with little to no stairs for her to navigate Nova is a Beagle mix who was was born approximately 1-6-19 and weighs 20 lbs. She is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, given flea/tick preventative, dewormed and started on heartworm prevention. Adoption fee is $400 to help offset the many expenses we have for vetting costs. We rely strictly on adoption fees and donations to continue to save the lives of orphaned & abandoned pets; 100% goes towards their care. Story
Fiona the Lemon Beagle is most comfortable around other dogs and wants to run and play with them. She has made many big steps on her new journey after a life of breeding in a puppy mill. She will take pets in her kennel but not outside of it yet. She has been brave and taken a treat from her foster mom's outstretched hand. She loves to drag all the toys and blankets outside. Fiona has been spending more time out of her kennel but is still hesitant of getting too close. She needs a home with another dog that is mostly calm and will be a companion to her as she learns to become a happy & confident dog. She is going to need a person with much patience and time to work with her. Fiona cannot live with children as they would frighten her. She also fears most adults and will need constant reassurance and gentle guidance. She continues to get more comfortable each day. Requirements for Fiona include an experienced dog home with excellent veterinary reference; experience with a mill dog a plus; secure fenced yard, another gentle dog companion in the home; no young children as they will frighten her. She does not walk well on a leash as that is completely new to her. She is scared of pretty much everything, people, noises, etc.... but making great steps and getting braver every day! Fiona is a female Beagle born 3-27-23. She is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, given flea/tick preventative, dewormed, tested negative for heartworm disease and on heartworm prevention. Adoption fee is $350 to help offset the many expenses we have for vetting costs. We rely strictly on adoption fees and donations to continue to save the lives of orphaned & abandoned pets; 100% goes towards their care.
