Story
Mulligan’s DNA Said he’s 1/4 Leopard Hound, 1/4 Beagle, 1/4 Boston Terrier and 1/4 Pyrenees. He’s fully grown and petite at just 35 lbs. He has had some rough experiences, and you can see it in the way he flinches and stays on edge. His fight-or-flight is always on — not because he’s aggressive, but because he’s scared. He has never shown aggression, but he cannot be in a home with kids because fast movements and loud noises overwhelm him. Once he decides you’re safe, he follows you everywhere and doesn’t like for you to leave his sight. He snuggles beside you at night. And he becomes incredibly sweet and loyal. What he does well: • Loves other dogs (they boost his confidence) • House trained • Good in public with a dog buddy • Cuddles once he bonds • Sticks close to his person What he’s still learning: • Trusting new people • Commands • Harness walking • Building confidence • Crates — he will go in a crate, but he has confinement anxiety and barks Mulligan needs a quiet, patient home with at least one confident dog. He’s not the instant-easy type, but once he trusts you, he loves deeply. If you’re someone who understands trauma dogs and wants a loyal companion who just needs time, message us to meet Mulligan. 🖤

Story
Hi… we’re Peanut & Butters 🤍🐾🐾 Yes, there are two of us—and we come as a package deal, because we’ve been side by side through everything life has thrown our way. A couple of years ago, we were found in a sugarcane field, starving, covered in fleas and mange, and just trying to survive by drinking from a muddy ditch. No one knows exactly what we went through before that, but we do know it left us a little scared of the world—especially other dogs. But even then, we had each other. 💕Peanut had it especially hard. She was so sick with heartworms that she almost didn’t make it, and she still carries tiny pellets in her chest from being shot… so loud noises like thunder and fireworks can be really scary for her. Butters has always been her protector, her safe place, her constant comfort. He never leaves her side, and she leans on him when she needs reassurance. Watching us together, you’ll quickly see—we’re not just friends, we’re family. 🐶❤️🐶The kind humans who rescued us refused to give up, and because of them, we’re now healthy, heartworm-free, fixed, chipped, and finally know what it feels like to be loved. And oh, do we love back! We are incredibly sweet, gentle souls with the softest mouths and the biggest hearts. We adore people, do wonderful with kids, and are happiest when we’re close to our humans—whether that’s soaking up attention or just quietly being near you. 🥰We’re both around 5 years old—Butters is a 55 lb American Foxhound, and Peanut is a 41 lb Jack Russell/Beagle mix—and while we may look different, we fit together perfectly. The only thing we ask is for a home without other dogs, where we can feel safe and relaxed. We don’t want trouble—we just don’t always know how to trust after everything we’ve been through. The good news? We’re safe now with a no-kill shelter, so we finally have time on our side. 🎉 But what we really want—the thing we’ve never truly had—is a forever home. A calm, loving place where we can stay together, feel secure, and spend the rest of our lives being the loyal, loving companions we were always meant to be. 🏡🤍If you open your heart to us, you’re not just adopting dogs—you’re giving two survivors the happy ending they’ve been waiting for. And we promise, we’ll fill your life with more love than you ever imagined. 💕🐾****************All animals at HSO are current on their vaccinations and will be spayed/neutered prior to adoption. If not already spayed/neutered, there may be a short delay between when you select this pet and when they are ready to go home.Breed and age are determined based on observable physical traits. Actual lineage and birth date are rarely known.Adoption Fees:-$60 for cats-$60 for dogs over 6 years-$80 for dogs 6 months old to 6 years-$100 for puppies up to 6 monthsCome visit our pets Tuesday-Saturday, 10am-2pm.
