Bruno came to us from Miami-Dade Animal Services, where he was dumped by his previous family. While at the shelter and soon after our rescue saved him, he began displaying some disturbing behaviors that have proven to be quite challenging for both Bruno and all of us. Despite his challenging past, Bruno has been working hard with his trainer to overcome his struggles. Well, Bruno recently celebrated his 8th birthday with us - he has come so far! However, Bruno still requires a very specific and experienced adopter. He has shown signs of aggression, but with proper care and attention, we believe he can thrive. When unbothered, Bruno is a gentle soul who gets along fantastically with dogs and cats - and likes to cuddle on his terms. We’re not looking for just any adopter; we need a hero, someone with extensive experience in training and managing aggressive behavior. Bruno needs either a trainer or an experienced dog owner who can provide the patience, love, and care he deserves. Bruno loves to rest his head on his human and receive affection. He’s a diamond in the rough, waiting for someone to polish him and bring out his full potential. Welcome Gretchen to SFBR 🐾 Meet our newest intake, Gretchen (#A1105709), a sweet little 8-year-old Cheagle (beagle/chihuahua mix) with the happiest spirit. She is friendly, loving, and always seeking attention. Gretchen was found as a stray and brought to the county shelter in Fort Myers, where no one ever came for her. Gretchen does have a few health concerns we will be addressing. She has a heart murmur and an enlarged heart, along with some coughing that may be related to her heart condition or maybe a respiratory issue. She also has dental disease, some mammary masses that will need to be evaluated, and mild arthritis. Despite all of this, she remains happy and full of love. Given her health issues, we did not want to risk her being euthanized at the shelter and decided it was best to pull her. Gretchen will need ongoing medical care and a foster home where she can decompress and finally feel safe. Background: Former Ridglan beagle. Named by the volunteers who transported him to safety. “Aslan” means gentle strength, courage that grows over time, and a protector with a soft heart. Personality: Aslan is an incredibly sweet, gentle, and trusting dog. Despite his background, he seeks out human interaction and has a wagging tail almost anytime people are around. He enjoys affection and appears to find comfort in being close to his people. Behavior: * Very people-oriented * Affectionate and enjoys attention * Submissive and gentle in new situations * Continues to gain confidence each day * Has shown remarkable trust toward humans Leash Skills: Aslan is already making excellent progress learning to walk on leash. He may still need patience and encouragement as he continues building confidence, but he is improving quickly. With Other Dogs: Has done well with other beagles and enjoys canine companionship. Medical Notes: * Initial veterinary exam and bloodwork completed. * History of skin infection that is being treated/monitored. * No major medical concerns identified during intake evaluation. Welcome, Cheesy Gordita to SFBR! ❤️ Cheesy Gordita has had a very difficult life. She reportedly came from an abusive home and later lost her second home as well. Because of this, she is very shy around strangers at first, but underneath it all is an incredibly sweet girl who slowly begins to trust once she feels safe. The most beautiful part of her journey to us was watching her demeanor change with every volunteer she met along the way during her 4+ hour transport. Each kind woman who transported her showed her love, patience, and compassion. By the time she reached her final driver, Cheesy Gordita finally curled up in her new bed and fell asleep… a bed the last volunteer let her keep to help her continue to feel safe. 💛 Now all this sweet girl needs is what she has always deserved: stability, patience, and a forever home where she will never have to wonder if she is safe again. Royce has officially joined South Florida Beagle Rescue, and according to our Miami Beagle Croqueta Scale, he identifies as a Sergio’s Croqueta. 😎 (If you have no idea what we’re talking about, be sure to check out our recent Miami Beagle Croqueta Scale post. 😂) Royce was surrendered when his family found themselves traveling more for work and could no longer give him the time and attention he deserves. This handsome boy is a 7-year-old purebred chocolate beagle who is incredibly sweet and friendly, even with strangers. While we are still getting to know him, he may do best as the only dog in the home. Royce has completed training and knows commands such as sit, stay, and crate.
