No, Kirby was not kept in a cage—he was in an even worse situation. He was out in the world by himself with his puppy collar embedding into his neck as he grew. In addition, he was underfed and treated very poorly. When the shelter reached out to Tampa Bay Beagle Rescue, the clock was ticking loudly for Kirby. Thanks to the amazing work of our transport partners and generous donations to TBBR, Kirby came to us with 40 stitches circling his entire neck. He was also underweight and terrified of people. It is truly amazing what a little time and love can do! It took just a few days for Kirby to begin trusting the pack. Every day, he grows more trusting of me, too. He has even started following me into my office just to hang out near me. He happily comes out of his crate on his own in the morning, and he even taught himself how to use the doggy door! Best of all, he is now completely house-trained. If you want to make a real difference in the life of a Beagle who truly needs it, Kirby is your boy. Sabrina is a petite 6-year-old beagle with the most loving personality. She's house-trained, great with other dogs, cat-friendly, and happiest when she's curled up next to her people for a nap. Sabrina is currently being treated for heartworms and will need to continue her medication until her final injections can be scheduled. She's just about as sweet as they come. Sabrina is heartworm positive. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Tigger has come a long way from the frightened little beagle who arrived last October. We believe Tigger and Pooh are brothers. Originally they were not fostered together, but were near enough to play together several times a week. Now they are in the same foster home. Tigger has learned to trust his foster mom and dad, and he seems quite willing to trust other people, as long as he is not restricted or restrained. He has become happily compliant with household routines and uses a dog door to go outside to potty and run about. He comes in frequently to nap in his favorite places. Tigger is ABSOLUTELY food motivated and will totally go in his crate for meals and bedtime treats, but then is allowed to sleep on a dog bed or on the bed with foster mom. Mornings he will often be sweetly affectionate and appreciates petting, rubs and even a little play...as long as he is not held. He will move away if he feels uncomfortable. In the beginning, the only time he could be petted was when his face was in a food dish. It was then his foster mom could put a harness on him and he would allow belly rubs and petting. Tigger is a confident little boy who walks with a sassy little swagger. He is alert, energetic and stinking cute! He needs another dog to play with for sure, and we'd actually love it if he got adopted together with Pooh. Tigger's family will really need to be patient and continue to allow him to develop trust with their physical contact. He also needs a securely fenced yard. Tigger was heartworm positive but has already been through his treatment and has retested negative. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Bootsie has absolutely delighted her foster mom with how easily she has adjusted, how well she is getting along with her other dog and how loving and affectionate she is. When Bootsie is especially happy or excited she makes cute little whines. Her personality is gentle and submissive, and when meeting new people she greets them happily, wagging her tail and wants to lick their hands. Bootsie was surrendered to a Louisiana shelter along with Lolly, also available for adoption. Squirrels and rabbits do not interest Bootsie, but she will chase cats when they run. She has been 100% housebroken from the day she arrived. She had to learn to go on a leash and showed her foster mom that she can hold it for a very long time. Bootsie is currently allowed to sleep in bed at night with foster mom and the other dog. She is a low energy dog but does not like to be left alone. When foster mom does goes out for a few hours, Bootsie is crated but she does vocalize her discontent with the situation. Bootsie very much enjoys her walks and a good roll in the grass. As is typical for a beagle, she will pull a little to get to places she really wants to smell. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Tiny little Lolly is full of tail wags and her shy behavior with people is very pacifying. She is so ready to be friends -- just needs a little gentle assurance. She likes other dogs although we have not yet seen her play with them. She and Bootsie were surrendered together to a Louisiana shelter, but they are doing absolutely amazing in separate foster homes. Lolly does not seem to care about squirrels or lizards, we don't know about cats and so far no interest in toys or balls, but she definitely likes walks and golf cart rides. Lolly's beagle nose and natural curiosity come alive when she is outside. A fenced yard with shrubs and trees or walks on nature trails would be great for her. She is making excellent grades in house training – no accidents! She sleeps in a crate overnight with no problem and a lot of times will sleep in her crate during the day with the door open. Lolly seems to be a pretty quiet beagle with a low to medium energy level. She eats well but is not overly food focused. So far she is very demure about asking for any attention. However, she seems to like being petted and will snuggle if picked up. She is heartworm positive and will be treated mid July.
