Hi. I'm Bill the Beagle. I'm a sweet boy. I sometimes take some time to get acquainted with other dogs, but once I do - all I want to do is play, play, play. I'm also special. You see, I have heartworms. Polk County Humane Society will pay for the treatment, but I'll need to have some special care for a few months (antibiotics, steriod pills, injections) and I'll need to be kept relatively calm after my treatments. I will be worth it and I'd even love it if you'd foster me during my treatment period. The injections will likely need to be done in Bolivar, MO, so might require 3 trips to the vet there. Just to keep in mind if you think I might be the best beagle in the world for you. If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2815464##

💕 Meet Freckles! 💕 Freckles is a 5-year-old Basset Hound who has unfortunately had a bit of a tough go at life. We aren't sure how many homes she has had, but we do know that her most recent home was only able to keep her for about six months before circumstances changed once again. And despite all those changes, Freckles has remained the kind of dog who is happy to see people, eager for attention, and ready to make friends. If you know Basset Hounds, you know they can be pretty special dogs. They tend to be laid-back, social, affectionate, and wonderfully entertaining, with those long ears, short legs, and big personalities. Freckles certainly seems to embody many of those classic Basset qualities. She is a sweet, happy girl who enjoys being around people and doesn't seem to know a stranger. She's good with other dogs, has been around children, and has experience around farm animals. She also rides well in the car and walks nicely on a leash, so she's ready to be someone's companion for both lazy days at home and little adventures around town. Freckles' biggest hurdle right now isn't her personality—it's that she hasn't really learned how to be an indoor dog. It appears that she has likely spent much of her life living outside, so she isn't accustomed to a consistent house-training routine. Her most recent owner also began experiencing health issues, and while that alone may not have made keeping her impossible, the combination of circumstances made it difficult to give Freckles what she needed. They made the difficult decision to surrender her in hopes that she could find a family with the time and ability to patiently teach her how to live successfully in a home. Freckles isn't a dog who needs to be taught how to be sweet. She already has that part down. ❤️ She needs someone willing to give her the consistency, patience, and positive guidance she may never have had before. With time and a routine, we believe she has the potential to make a wonderful house dog and an even better companion. After having so much uncertainty in her life, Freckles deserves a home where she can finally unpack her bags and stay. We would love for her next family to be her forever family. 🐾💕
