Story
Meet Mango — A Smart, Splash‑Loving, High‑Energy Girl Looking for Her Perfect MatchMango is a 2.5‑year‑old female dog, neutered, with a striking black and beige semi‑coarse coat and a long expressive tail. She’s fully up‑to‑date on vaccinations and ready for her next adventure — ideally with someone who appreciates a brilliant, energetic, water‑loving companion.🐾 Personality & TemperamentMango is loving, playful, affectionate, and very smart. She learns fast — she picked up “sit” almost immediately and responds well to “no” and “go lay down.” She’s food‑driven, eager to please, and thrives with structure. She has very high energy, making her a great fit for an active adopter who enjoys outdoor time or training games.🧒 Good With PeopleChildren: Yes — but she jumps, so supervision and continued training are important.Elderly: Yes — but she’s energetic, so she may be too exuberant for some.🐶 Good With Other PetsDogs: Yes, for the most part. She has lived primarily with other dogs.Cats: She’s curious, wants to play, and may need guidance to respect boundaries.Toys: Mango is very possessive of toys. She steals them, de‑fluffs them, removes squeakers, and chews pieces (but does not swallow). A home that understands resource guarding and can manage it will be ideal.🏡 Home HabitsHouse trained: Yes — no accidents.Crate trained: Yes — her crate is her safe place, and she sleeps in it.Leash trained: Walks nicely but will not potty on leash.Travel: Loves car rides and sits beautifully.Barking: She has loud barks — something to consider for shared‑wall housing.🍽️ Food & FeedingMango eats 2 cups AM + 2 cups PM, with treats sprinkled in.She will eat all dog and cat food available, including her siblings’ food, without hesitation. A home that can maintain structured feeding will help her succeed.💦 Favorite ActivitiesWater! Mango LOVES water — she’ll jump in a kiddie pool every chance she gets.Playtime — especially with toys she can de‑fluff.Learning — she’s smart and enjoys training sessions.Being with her people — affectionate and eager for connection.❤️ Ideal HomeMango will thrive with:Someone active who enjoys a high‑energy dogA family comfortable with continued trainingA home that can manage toy possessivenessA yard or space for her to run and splashSomeone who appreciates a smart, loving, water‑obsessed companionShe’s a joyful, affectionate girl who brings laughter, energy, and devotion to the people she loves.Contact 507-451-4512 or steelecountyhumanesociety@gmail.com to set up a meet-n-greet. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Kato came to MCHS in May 2025 as an owner surrender due to rental property restrictions. He's a German shepherd/pit bull mix who is now 3 years old, after being at our shelter for over a year. He's friendly, strong, and active. He's also really handsome! Just don't tell him that - we don't want it to go to his head. Kato has been vet checked, neutered, and microchipped, and his fee of $150 is sponsored by the business, "Exceptional Pet Waste Removal". Kato has had some training and knows some basic commands. He does forget his manners sometimes as he's overwhelmed with enthusiastic affection. We do think he has the potential to do okay with a well mannered female dog. He should be okay with older kids. He has been nonchalant and non-reactive around cats. He's bright and eager to please and tries really hard to be a lap dog sometimes. NOTE:  Adoptions are done via private appointment once an application has been completed and approved. Applications must be submitted at our website, mchs.rescuegroups.org. We are located at 101 22nd St. SE in Austin, right next to the airport. It's exit 180B off of I-90, right off of 218 South. We do require that potential adopters be at least 21 years old and that any resident dogs be up to date on vaccinations, heartworm testing/preventatives, and spayed or neutered.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.September 15, 2026, 12:38 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Caesar originally came to us in February 2020, when he was around 3 years old. He was adopted soon after and lived a happy life with his people for over 6 years. Sadly, his life changed drastically when both of his people passed away over the course of a couple of years. In September 2026, family members had to make the truly tough decision to return Caesar to the shelter. We would like to see him back in a home as soon as possible. Because he's now around 9 years old, we're going to get him a full senior check-up very soon. His adoption fee is $125. Caesar appears to be a white German shepherd, if not a mix, and he looks great for an older dog. He's a sensitive, intelligent, and loving gentleman who has had some basic training. He's still pretty athletic and has been known to jump fences so a secure environment is important. He's well mannered and has done well around other calmer dogs and older kids. Cats? We're not really sure. He will also need some regular exercise, followed by some couch time. Help us find the perfect retirement home for this handsome and wonderful dog! Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Argo arrived in November 2022 from our friends at the Rescue Network after he was rescued from a Reservation in South Dakota. He is about 4 to 5 years old and does have a lot of the trademark features of mixed breed dogs from Reservations - "Rezzies", as they are affectionately known in rescue. Like many Rezzies, he could be a mix of cattle dog and German and/or Australian shepherd, just to name a few possible options. He's a handsome and very active dog. He has been vet checked and neutered and his fee is $125. Argo has had some basic training and will require a lot of consistent exercise. This is of the utmost importance in order to keep him well balanced and happy. He is ready for action all the time but gets serious when leashed. He does pretty well on leash walks and loves car rides. He's an affectionate guy, too, who thinks nothing of climbing into a person's lap if he gets the chance. Argo would do best in a home with a large fenced yard. He's NOT a dog for apartment living. He's looking for an ADULT only, single person home as he tends to bond very closely to his person and becomes quite protective. No cats for him. He's incredibly smart and would be a lot of fun to train! NOTE:  Adoptions are done via private appointment once an application has been completed and approved.
