Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Kato came to MCHS in May 2025 as an owner surrender due to rental property restrictions. He's a German shepherd/pit bull mix who is now 3 years old, after being at our shelter for over a year. He's friendly, strong, and active. He's also really handsome! Just don't tell him that - we don't want it to go to his head. Kato has been vet checked, neutered, and microchipped, and his fee of $150 is sponsored by the business, "Exceptional Pet Waste Removal". Kato has had some training and knows some basic commands. He does forget his manners sometimes as he's overwhelmed with enthusiastic affection. We do think he has the potential to do okay with a well mannered female dog. He should be okay with older kids. He has been nonchalant and non-reactive around cats. He's bright and eager to please and tries really hard to be a lap dog sometimes. NOTE:  Adoptions are done via private appointment once an application has been completed and approved. Applications must be submitted at our website, mchs.rescuegroups.org. We are located at 101 22nd St. SE in Austin, right next to the airport. It's exit 180B off of I-90, right off of 218 South. We do require that potential adopters be at least 21 years old and that any resident dogs be up to date on vaccinations, heartworm testing/preventatives, and spayed or neutered.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.August 29, 2026, 9:29 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Rowdy arrived at MCHS on 6/13/2026, a transfer from one of our rescue friends after originally coming from a South Dakota Reservation area. He is a solid young shepherd looking mix who is around 8 months old and has some growing left to do. He will need some basic training and has a great attitude. He has been vet checked and neutered and his fee is $150. Rowdy generally resembles a German shepherd and has the ears and coloring of one, but he definitely could have some other breeds in his mix, like husky and various types of herding breed dog. Heelers and other herding breeds and their mixes are very common on Reservations. He is strong and active, so he'll definitely need some good exercise. We do think he'd do well with other dogs. Cats? Maybe, with work and training. He does tend to live up to his name a little bit. He'd probably do okay with older kids, too. NOTE:  Adoptions are done via private appointment once an application has been completed and approved. Applications must be submitted at our website, mchs.rescuegroups.org. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Argo arrived in November 2022 from our friends at the Rescue Network after he was rescued from a Reservation in South Dakota. He is about 4 to 5 years old and does have a lot of the trademark features of mixed breed dogs from Reservations - "Rezzies", as they are affectionately known in rescue. Like many Rezzies, he could be a mix of cattle dog and German and/or Australian shepherd, just to name a few possible options. He's a handsome and very active dog. He has been vet checked and neutered and his fee is $125. Argo has had some basic training and will require a lot of consistent exercise. This is of the utmost importance in order to keep him well balanced and happy. He is ready for action all the time but gets serious when leashed. He does pretty well on leash walks and loves car rides. He's an affectionate guy, too, who thinks nothing of climbing into a person's lap if he gets the chance. Argo would do best in a home with a large fenced yard. He's NOT a dog for apartment living. He's looking for an ADULT only, single person home as he tends to bond very closely to his person and becomes quite protective. No cats for him. He's incredibly smart and would be a lot of fun to train! NOTE:  Adoptions are done via private appointment once an application has been completed and approved. Applications can be submitted at our website, mchs.rescuegroups.org. We are located at 101 22nd St. SE in Austin, right next to the airport. It's exit 180B off of I-90, right off of 218 South. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Rowen originally came to us on 4/23/2022 from our friends at the Rescue Network after he was rescued from a reservation in South Dakota. He is a pit bull/German shepherd mix who is now around 5 years old. He has always been a volunteer favorite! He was in a home for some months in 2025, but it did not work out, even though his adopter tried very hard with him. Rowen bonded very closely to her and was not tolerant of her husband or outsiders. However, we are not giving up on Rowen as we do believe that his perfect fit is out there, somewhere. His adoption fee is sponsored. Rowen has had basic training and enjoys a good, brisk walk and playing fetch. He's looking for an adult only home without a lot of foot traffic. He needs someone who is willing and able to provide him with the exercise he needs, along with consistent training and boundaries. He is strong and active. He's a happy and outgoing dog with a slight mischievous streak that is kinda endearing. He needs to be the only pet in the home. He will require regular exercise to keep him happy and well balanced. Secure fenced yard required. Story
Kobe is an almost 6 year old purebred German Shepherd we acquired from Jerland Farms in Barron, Wisconsin. He's solidly trained on an e-collar and behaves well with other dogs and cats, and he does especially well with people and children. He's high energy and playful. Our schedules have gotten too demanding to give him what he needs, since we're rarely home, and we're hoping to find him a home where someone can be present, active with him, and give him the engagement he deserves.

Story
Wyatt is a wonderful German Shepherd with a strikingly colored coat. He is a very happy dog as long as you are by his side. Wyatt knows many cues and loves playing in the water hose. In fact, he prefers to drink from the hose rather than drinking from a bowl. Since Wyatt was trapped after being on the run for possibly 2 months, he needs to be fed smaller meals twice a day. Wyatt has done well with other dogs of all sizes. Thus far, he has ignored cats. He has not shown much prey drive, but loves to use his nose on walks. Wyatt is an escape artist and cannot be left unattended in a fenced yard. He will find a way out of the most secure fence. Wyatt can also escape crates, so is crated in a heavy-duty crate when home unsupervised. Wyatt was neutered on June 22nd. He is housebroken. Wyatt would do best in a home with no shared walls and humans that are home most of the time. Wyatt’s adoption fee is $450 plus taxes and fees. He is available through campcompanion.org. Please research German Shepherd Dogs and then apply to adopt Wyatt.

Story
Valentina is a sweet, intelligent, and loyal 3 year old German Shepherd looking for an active, committed home. Her favorite activities are walking and swimming, and regular exercise helps her feel happy, calm, and relaxed. She would thrive with a person or family who will include her in daily life and provide plenty of physical activity and enrichment. Valentina does well with children and adults. Like many German Shepherds, she may bark when delivery drivers or unfamiliar visitors arrive. She does have a prey drive and enjoys chasing squirrels, rabbits, and deer, so her current compatibility with cats is unknown. She listens well and can be redirected, but a cat free home may be the safest fit. Valentina can do well with other dogs, but she will need a proper introduction and plenty of time and space to acclimate. She is accustomed to being the only dog in her home, though she has played appropriately with other dogs once she feels comfortable. German Shepherd or similar breed experience is preferred, or adopters should be prepared to research the breed and understand their exercise, training, and enrichment needs. Valentina is ready for a stable, loving forever home where she can be an important part of the family. Adoption fee is $450+tax, please apply at www.campcompanion.org

Story
Meet Rex! Rex is a 6-year-old German Shepherd looking for a home with his best friend, Vaeda. These two are bonded and need to be adopted together. Rex can be a little shy when meeting new people, but once he gets to know you, he is a sweet and loyal companion. He loves being close to his people, whether that means hanging out on the couch, sleeping at your feet, or sharing the bed at night. He is kennel trained, knows his basic commands, and is very food motivated. Rex also loves playing fetch and chasing tennis balls. In the summer, he enjoys hanging out in a kiddie pool or relaxing outside. Rex would do best in a quieter home without a lot of commotion or visitors. He does well with medium and large dogs that match his energy, but because he has a prey drive, he needs a home without cats or small dogs. He walks nicely on a leash but should not be trusted off leash, as his recall isn`t always reliable. A securely fenced yard would be a great fit for him. Rex also isn`t a fan of things like nail trims, ear cleaning, or veterinary handling, so he needs someone who will respect his boundaries and pay attention when he`s telling you he`s had enough. If you`re looking for a loyal companion and have room for two, Rex and Vaeda would love to find a home together. *Adult Home Only**No small dogs/ cats/ small animals adoption fee for the pair $400 + $30microchip fee + tax
