Story
Luna is a highly trained Belgian Malinois with an excellent obedience foundation. She knows all basic commands (sit, stay, down, place, crate, leave it) and is 100% off-leash trained, while still responding extremely well on leash. She has completed introductory bite training and can both engage and disengage on command. Luna has no aggression toward other dogs and loves being around people, especially kids. She regularly accompanies her handler to public places such as Lowe’s, Murdoch’s, and the Farmers Market. She is fully crate trained, house-clean, and has never had bowel issues indoors. Luna is a true working dog and needs a committed handler who will continue her training and provide adequate space and structure (preferably with other dogs to play with). Please only apply if you are serious about maintaining her training. Luna is a special dog and deserves an equally great home.

Story
Meet Willow Female | Belgian Malinois Mix Willow is a smart, sensitive, and incredibly loyal girl looking for a patient, loving home where she can truly shine. The good stuff (and there’s a lot): • Potty trained and very routine-oriented • Excellent house manners — when she’s free in the home, she’s an absolute angel • Loves to follow her person around, relax on the couch, chew a bone, or sunbathe • Sleeps through the night (and would happily sleep in bed with you!) • Never tried to jump the fence • Walks beautifully on leash and excels at loose-leash/heel work • Neutral and calm around other animals (dogs, cats, chickens, birds, even cows!) • Extremely smart and highly trainable — picks up new skills fast • Would make an awesome hiking or running partner for someone active Training & personality: Willow thrives with structure and mental stimulation. She loves training and caught onto commands quickly, including sit with an automatic stay, down, patience at doors, and even “sit pretty.” She’s eager to work and clearly enjoys learning, making her a dream for someone who enjoys training and bonding through it. With other dogs: She enjoys playing with other dogs and can relax around them. She does show some mild resource guarding (food, toys, affection), such as growling or showing teeth, but it never escalated and was very manageable with supervision and boundaries. With continued training and the right home, this is something that can improve. Crating & alone time: Willow does best outside of a crate when her person is home. She can panic if crated and left alone, sometimes attempting to escape. When free in the house, she’s calm and well-behaved. A home willing to work on separation confidence or provide appropriate management would be ideal. The ideal home: Willow would thrive with: • A patient, experienced adopter • Someone active who enjoys training and bonding • A calm, structured environment • Continued positive reinforcement and confidence-building Willow is a loyal, loving dog who just needs the right person to help her feel safe and secure. In the right hands, she has the potential to be an incredible companion. If you think Willow might be your girl, she’s ready to meet you.

Story
Meet Bo Breed: Belgian Malinois / Mastiff Mix Sex: Male DOB: August 3, 2022 Weight: 70 Pounds Health: Healthy and doing well Bo is a handsome, intelligent boy with a big heart and an even bigger personality. This energetic Malinois/Mastiff mix combines the loyalty and devotion of both breeds with a playful spirit that makes every day feel like an adventure. Sadly, Bo has become one of the rescue’s long-timers, patiently watching other dogs leave for their forever homes while he continues to wait for someone to notice him. He deserves the chance to finally leave the shelter behind and start the life he’s been hoping for. Personality Bo is affectionate, loyal, and full of joyful energy. He loves interacting with people and thrives on connection and companionship. His playful personality keeps life fun, whether he’s enjoying a walk, learning something new, or simply spending time close to his humans. Bo forms strong bonds and becomes deeply devoted to the people he trusts. His sweet nature and loving heart make him a wonderful companion who truly wants to be part of a family. Breed Info A Belgian Malinois and Mastiff mix combines intelligence, strength, and loyalty. Malinois are known for their sharp minds, trainability, and desire to work closely with their owners, while Mastiffs bring calm confidence and deep devotion to their families. Dogs with this mix tend to be incredibly loyal and thrive when given both mental stimulation and physical activity. With structure and engagement, they become deeply bonded companions who love being involved in daily life. Owner Responsibilities Bo already has a foundation of basic training, but like many intelligent dogs, he will benefit from continued training and mental enrichment. Regular exercise such as daily walks, play sessions, and activities that challenge his mind will help keep him happy and balanced. Positive reinforcement training will strengthen the bond between Bo and his adopter while helping him continue to grow into a confident, well-mannered companion. &#226&#154&#160&#239&#184&#143 Things to Consider Before adopting Bo, it’s important to think about your long-term lifestyle and stability. Are pets allowed where you live now and in the future? If you move, will Bo move with you? Do you have the time each day to provide exercise, engagement, and companionship? Are you financially prepared for routine veterinary care, food, and unexpected medical needs? Dogs like Bo deserve a home that is committed to them for life. Vet Care Even though Bo is healthy, adopters should establish care with their own veterinarian soon after adoption. This helps ensure preventative care continues properly and provides a trusted medical partner for Bo’s long-term health and well-being. Understanding the 3-3-3 Rule Like most rescue dogs, Bo will need time to adjust to his new home. The first 3 days he may feel unsure as he decompresses from the transition. The first 3 weeks he will begin learning your routine and feeling more secure. By 3 months, his confidence will grow and his full personality will shine. Patience and consistency during this adjustment period will help Bo thrive. Why Bo? Bo has waited patiently for someone to see the amazing dog he truly is. He is loyal, playful, intelligent, and full of love to give. Long-timer dogs like Bo often become the most devoted companions because they know what it means to finally be chosen. The family who gives Bo his forever home will gain a faithful friend who will stand by their side through every adventure. Story
Meet our large German Shepherd mix puppy who recently returned to our program—not because he did anything wrong, but because he’s still very much a big puppy learning how to navigate the world. He’s playful and enjoys having a canine companion, and we are looking for a foster home with another large, calm, well-balanced dog for him to coexist with and engage in appropriate play. The resident dog should not be overly exuberant—this pup does best with dogs that have steady energy and good manners. When given space and time to settle, he does well—but the new foster will absolutely need the capacity to let him decompress for a few days and become comfortable in a new environment before expectations are placed on him.🐶 Enjoys play but needs appropriate, respectful dog interactions - he takes gentle redirection from other dogs very well!🐶 Best with a calm, confident large dog🐶 Will react defensively if another dog becomes aggressive toward him🐶 Needs structure, patience, and decompression timeThis is a sensitive, growing puppy who will thrive in the right foster environment—one that understands decompression, provides clear structure, and supports calm interactions.Let’s help him land somewhere he can truly succeed. To have your home considered for adoption, read about our adoption process or fees, and find out about interstate transport (dogs only), please visit our website.https://longwayhome.org/apply ❤ Long Way Home makes no guarantees on breed--most animals we receive from shelters are mixed breeds. As long as they need rescue, that's what is most important to us.
