Story
Meet Caramelo — A big-hearted goofball looking for his forever family!  Caramelo is a joyful, affectionate pup with a heart as big as his size. This handsome boy is about 1½ years old and is a unique Belgian Shepherd mix, weighing ~60 lbs. He’s the perfect combination of playful energy, sweetness, and goofy puppy charm. His story is as special as he is. Caramelo wandered into a Spay/Neuter clinic in Huejotitan, Jocotepec, laid down, and decided he had found the place he wanted to be. Even after receiving care and being neutered, he still wasn’t ready to leave. Instead of returning to life on the streets, Caramelo was welcomed into a loving foster home where he could gain weight, build confidence, and experience what it means to be part of a family. Since then, this sweet boy has blossomed into a joyful, affectionate, food-loving goofball who believes everyone he meets is a friend. He greets life with enthusiasm and has so much love, loyalty, and companionship to offer.  Why You’ll Love Him Caramelo is a happy, energetic pup during the day and a champion sleeper at night. He’s still very much a puppy at heart — curious, playful, easily distracted, and always ready to learn (especially when treats are involved!). He’s a gentle soul with other dogs and truly believes every dog is his friend. If another dog isn’t interested in making friends, Caramelo simply backs away rather than responding negatively. His sweet and forgiving nature is one of the many things that makes him so special.  Home Life & Training Caramelo is fully housetrained and currently enjoys indoor-outdoor living with 24/7 access to a dog door. He is comfortable being kenneled for up to 3 hours with no accidents or signs of anxiety, especially when given a favorite chew toy to keep him happily occupied. Caramelo knows “sit” and is eager to continue learning. Like any young dog, he is still developing his manners and would thrive with continued obedience training and positive reinforcement. He is currently practicing recall, polite manners, and “stay.” He also has a natural love of digging, so a home with space for a designated digging area would be ideal — because Caramelo believes every garden could use a little redesign!  Leash & Outdoor Adventures Caramelo is always ready for an adventure! He travels well in the car and enjoys exploring the world around him. He walks comfortably on leash and, like many young dogs, can become distracted by exciting sights, smells, and discoveries along the way. The good news is that Caramelo is responsive to verbal guidance and takes direction well. With a confident handler and continued practice, he will continue growing into a wonderful walking and adventure buddy.  Other Pets & Socialization Caramelo is a social pup who currently shares his foster home with six other rescue dogs of various sizes, ages, and breeds. He enjoys canine companionship and has shown he can play well with all dogs, including a disabled Malinois and a small Corgi mix. His play style is enthusiastic and energetic, so he would do best with other dogs who enjoy a fun, active companion and with a family who can continue helping him learn polite play. Caramelo is naturally curious and loves chasing little critters he spots outside. Because of his playful chase instinct, he would need slow, supervised introductions and training before living with smaller animals such as cats or rabbits. He does not yet have experience living with children. Due to his size, enthusiasm, and puppy-like energy, he would be best suited to a home with older children who can participate in training and enjoy an active companion.  Caramelo’s Dream Home Caramelo is a big, lovable puppy who is still learning, growing, and discovering the world. He would thrive with a family who understands that young dogs need patience, consistency, exercise, and plenty of love. In return, Caramelo will give you something priceless: a loyal best friend who greets each day with happiness, laughter, and a whole lot of love. Could Caramelo be the missing piece in your family? VETTING: Fully vaccinated Neutered Dewormed SNAP 4Dx negative (Heartworm, Lyme disease, Ehrlichia, and Anaplasma) Flea/tick/heartworm prevention No known medical issues or injuries PLEASE NOTE: Caramelo is currently in Mexico. There will be a $235 fee for transportation to BC. This will be discussed upon approval. ##2796595##
