Story
Meet Huckleberry & Finn! This unlikely duo (Huckleberry the Great Pyrenees and Finn the Malinois) arrived to the Shelter as strays after embarking on a grand adventure from home. After arriving safely at the Shelter, staff observed that this duo appear to be two peas in a pod and would thrive in an adoptive home together. Huckleberry is the more confident of the two while Finn is a little more shy and reliant on Huckleberry for comfort. They are very familiar with each other and seem to thrive in each other’s company. We are aiming to try to find them an adoptive home together. They have met other dogs (small and large) and have been interested in interaction – even soliciting some play. Staff have also observed that they walk well on leash and keep a tidy kennel. If you have room in your heart (and home) for two big dogs, consider meeting Huckleberry and Finn today!Huckleberry is available for preadoption at this time – come in, fall in love and you can take him home after his neuter surgery! Now through February 15th, all adoption fees are reduced to $33 - come to the Shelter today to adopt your very own Valentine! The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

Story
Meet Apollo, the handsome frosted face German Shepherd. Apollo came to the Shelter after his previous guardian was unable to continue caring for him due to her medical needs. His previous guardian reports that, despite his large size, Apollo likes to sits on laps. His favorite activities are playing and running. Apollo does walk on leash but pulls fairly strongly. The property Apollo lived at previously had outdoor cats who Apollo coexisted with. Apollo previously spent the majority of his time outdoors. He may do well in a home environment where he has easy access outside to a securely fenced in yard via a doggy door or a similar set up and can come in at night. As long as you have some tennis balls and a good throwing arm, Apollo will be a happy camper. He came to the Shelter with his friend Eddie (A328562) who is also up for adoption. Eddie and Apollo could go to an adoptive home together for someone looking for a duo but is not required to be adopted with Eddie. Although he enjoys the company of that dog, he is a bit selective about other canine friends (outside of his buddy Eddie). He may enjoy being the only dog in his next home and soaking up all of your love. If you are a German Shepherd savvy adopter looking for a dog to be the apple of your eye, come meet Apollo today! Now through February 15th, all adoption fees are reduced to $33 - come to the Shelter today to adopt your very own Valentine! The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption.
