Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Athletic Tripawed Dog!Coco is an almost 2 year-old Malinois / German Shepherd mix who weighs approximately 78lbs.  Coco is just a sweet sweet dog. Curious, goofy, loving, and energetic - he loves everyone, and sees the best in them. Coco currently lives with two older 4-legged brothers and, while he would love to live with a fur-sibling, he is not part of a bonded pair. As long as he has fur friends to play with, Coco will be a happy boy! When playing with his human pals, in typical puppy fashion Coco can be a bit jumpy and mouthy, but that's easily addressed with a firm voice and a 15 minute walk :-) He's very verbally responsive and wants to please. Sweet Coco has been perfectly house trained since day one, loves car rides, and while he is working on his leash manners, he loves to go for walks and is learning not to pull in excitement when he meets new friends - that is Everyone! Coco knows the benefit of "Sit", "Down" and "Touch" to get his favorite treats, and will benefit from continued positive reinforcement training. Check out Coco's profile on Rocky Kanaka! https://rockykanaka.com/one-leg-short-but-full-of-heart-a-german-shepherds-inspiring-escape-from-adversity/ Prior to adoption, all dogs are spayed/neutered, tested for heartworm, vaccinated (including rabies, if age appropriate) and microchipped.   Adoption fees for dogs: http://www.svpetproject.org/info/adoption Stay up-to-date on what our dogs are up to by following us on Facebook!  https://www.facebook.com/svpetproject Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 1, 2024, 5:18 pm

Stephen is a pretty typical Belgian Malinois in need of experienced handler/trainer who is looking to have fun times working this guy out! Not for a novice, but he`s affiliative, fetches, plays flirt pole games, and enjoys outdoor walks while not pulling too hard on leash. Rescue Groups Welcome as Stephen`s been here too long for his mental health.Video of assessment by Dog Trainer Matthew Daughters, Off Leash K9 Training Bay Area:https://youtu.be/o72Dn2tRCYE?si=Za1rtM-V39uWB8CFStephen is currently in training if you`re interested in meeting Stephen Please contact Lih at: lih13g@charter.net

Story
Male Belgian Malinois, 1 year 2 months old. Neutered. He is intelligent and a quick learner. Ray can seem shy and timid. He doesn't trust new people, but once he figures out they're not dangerous to him, he's a really sweet guy. He is house-trained, sleeps well all night (we don't use a crate but he knows what it is). I would say Ray is a moderate energy level, good with small and large dogs. He is quick to make friends and play very gently on the playground. He knows "sit", "down", "come", "fetch" but needs a lot of additional work and training. Ray doesn't guard toys or food. I can say that he is a sensitive young adult who responds well to positive reinforcement training, especially when treats are involved. While he may show submissive tendencies, his potential shines with a little guidance and encouragement. It should be patient people, experienced dog owners who has a large breeds in the past. No cats, no children. Experienced dog owners who has a large breeds in the past.

Story
I adopted Magnum from the Santa Cruz shelter in January 2024 and he has become increasingly aggressive since coming home with me. He is a doll with me but he tries to attack anything else that moves - cats, lizards, squirrels, my chickens, young children, people, and all other dogs. The shelter thinks he is about 3 years old. I don't know anything about him prior to adopting him. I walk him regularly (often very long hikes) and I have been training him since day 1 with the help of 2 different trainers. He also takes doggie prozac (FLUoxetine) daily. He continues to be really aggressive to anyone but me, which has made it very difficult for me to lead a normal life and have family/friends over. He does great in his kennel and seems to be a one person dog. He has a very strong prey drive. I have to put a muzzle on him whenever he has to be in close quarter with other people (e.g. car rides). It breaks my heart but I cannot keep him.

Story
Meet the marvelous Martha! Martha came to the Shelter as an owner surrender after her previous guardian was unable to continue caring for her. Martha has been a gentle giant through the transition from her backyard to the Shelter. Martha previously lived with four small dogs and coexisted nicely. Martha is currently hanging out in a foster home. The foster parents report: “It’s going great – Martha’s been super easy to handle. She lives for pets. She’s met kids and other dogs and has been a total sweetheart with everyone. She seems to be slowly getting livelier.”Martha has been low to medium energy. She enjoys sniffaris (slow walks where she can explore the world) and doesn’t necessarily need to run marathons every day with her adopter. Daily walks will be crucial to helping Martha lose weight as she is a bit of a bigger girl than she should be (100lbs!). A home with other dogs may be a fit provided they meet at the Shelter prior to adoption. We do not have any history of Martha with cats. If you’re looking for a gentle giant, come to the Shelter to set up a meet and greet with Martha today!

Story
Meet Cruise! Cruise is a handsome, social German Shepherd. Curise was described as house trained in his previous home. When strangers would come over to visit, he was calm and would sit next to his new friends. Cruise lived in a home with teenagers ages 15 and 16. He was described as calm around the children in the home. He`s met dogs at the Shelter and has enjoyed romping around the exercise yards with some of them, but like most adult dogs, he may not enjoy the company of every dog that he comes across. We call that `dog selective` and it`s totally normal: just like people, some of us are super-social and love big, random parties, others prefer the company of a smaller group of family and friends! A home with another dog to play with is a possibility and we can arrange a meeting at the Shelter prior to adoption to see how they do as individuals. He has responded well to reinforcement and relationship-centered training. Cruise finds kitties a bit too enticing to chase so a home that is feline free is required. Looking for a well-rounded shepherd boy to complete your home? Cruise over to the shelter!
