Story
Polaris is a young girl who was found dumped on the side of the road with a bag of dog food dumped on the ground as her only help for survival. A good samaritan picked her up and contacted me. Help Polaris never face that kind of treatment again by giving her a forever home. She is very sweet and friendly and great with other dogs and people and kids. She definitely has a prey drive though, which is not at all unusual for dogs, so no kitties or small animals. She walks well on the leash and does well in a crate. She is currently still in Oklahoma where she was rescued but she can only be adopted out of state where people treat animals well. She has to be prepaid and picked up directly from transport at one of our transport drop off locations below. If things don't work out for some reason, which rarely ever happens, we will either find a local foster to take her in or she will go back to Oklahoma on our next transport until a new home is found. Note: No dogs are advertised as potty-trained because most dogs need at least some re-training in a new environment and after being in a shelter/rescue environment/strays. www.facebook.com/desideratarescue (copy and paste into a new browser window) Transport locations: - Washington State (Kennewick, Spokane, Tumwater, Tacoma, Tukwila, Lynnwood/Edmonds, Bellingham) - Oregon (Portland and Springfield) - Colorado (Ft Lupton) - Idaho (Heyburn and Boise/Meridian) - Utah (Ogden) - Wyoming (Evanston, Rock Springs, Laramie) - Montana (Missoula) - Illinois (Vandalia, Springfield, Chicago) - Indiana (Spiceland, Burn Harbor) - Michigan (St Joseph, Battle Creek, Ann Arbor) - Wisconsin (Madison, Wausau, Eau Claire, Appleton, Milwaukee) - Minnesota (Minneapolis/St Paul) - Iowa (Des Moines) - Ohio (Columbus and London) - Pennsylvania (Erie, Pittsburgh and Harrisburg) - New York (Buffalo and Albany) - Connecticut (Enfield) - New Jersey (Bedminster) - Nevada (Las Vegas) - Arizona (Flagstaff) Vetting: spayed, microchipped, rabies vaccine, bordetella vaccine, dhpp vaccine x 3, lepto vaccine x 2, dewormed several times, on monthly flea and tick prevention, on monthly heartworm protection, heartworm tested (negative) Adoption fee: $550 (includes the $250 cost of transport from Oklahoma and all vetting listed above) Adoption application (copy and paste into a new browser window): https://form.jotform.com/82677586784176 FAQs (copy and paste into a new browser window): https://docs.google.com/document/d/12eb_SRtk1AzaBl87UltcLJ24MjH9UhQm_LE77iWZEQA/edit?tab=t.0 Desiderata Rescue is Oklahoma Licensed Rescue #95

Story
Handsome Parker! This pup is looking for an active home that can give him a life full of exercise and enrichment. He`s sure to be a great companion on the hiking trails! And if you have another dog, let us know! We are requiring a puppy playdate here at the shelter to help ensure it`s a good fit. Due to his exuberance, HSBV will only rehome him to a family either without children or with children over the age of 10.

Story
Cute Sesame! This sweet boy is friendly and energetic, but can be a bit worried at times so he will benefit from a supportive adopter that can be his cheerleader when he needs a confidence boost! He would likely also enjoy an older, well-adjusted dog that can help show him the ropes. Sesame might appreciate a home either with no children or with older, gentle children at this time.

Story
Meet Abuelito Male DOB: May 23, 2023 Weight: 50 pounds (medium) Breed: Belgian Malinois / Carolina Dog Mix Neutered (Fixed) Vaccinated Microchipped Healthy & Adoption-Ready Personality, Breed Info & Expectations Abuelito is an incredibly loving, gentle soul with a tender personality and a heart full of affection. He is sweet, calm, and deeply people-oriented, enjoying companionship and closeness with those around him. He has the kind of soft, loving energy that makes everyone feel instantly comfortable. He also gets along beautifully with: Cats Dogs People Abuelito is described as extremely affectionate and very gentle, making him the kind of dog who simply wants love, connection, and a peaceful home where he can feel safe and included. As a Belgian Malinois / Carolina Dog mix, Abuelito may show traits such as intelligence, awareness, loyalty, and strong emotional bonds with his family. While Belgian Malinois mixes are often known for being active and intelligent, Abuelito appears to have a calmer, softer temperament that makes him especially endearing. Abuelito would thrive in a home that can provide: Daily companionship and affection Moderate exercise and walks Structure and consistency Inclusion as part of the family He would make a wonderful companion for someone looking for a loving, loyal, and emotionally connected dog. Training, Adjustment & What to Expect Many rescue dogs come from very different backgrounds. Some may have previously lived in homes, while others may have come from the streets, overcrowded shelters, neglect situations, or environments where they had little structure or guidance. Because of this, most rescue dogs arrive with only basic training at best, and some may have had no formal training at all. Even dogs who appear well-behaved in foster care or at the rescue are still adjusting and learning. The rescue environment itself also does not always allow for extensive one-on-one training. While we work hard to provide safety, structure, socialization, and basic guidance, adopters should be prepared to continue training and support after adoption. Abuelito will benefit from: Positive reinforcement training Structure and consistency Continued socialization and engagement Patience during adjustment periods Routine and companionship Please remember the 3-3-3 Rule: 3 days to decompress 3 weeks to learn your routine 3 months to fully feel at home With patience, stability, and commitment, rescue dogs often blossom into deeply loyal lifelong companions. Owner Responsibilities & Veterinary Care Owning a dog is a lifelong commitment that includes daily exercise, companionship, routine veterinary care, training, mental stimulation, and financial responsibility. Abuelito will need: Daily walks and interaction Continued training and guidance Routine wellness exams and preventative veterinary care A safe, stable, indoor living environment Consistent veterinary care, proper nutrition, preventative care, and emotional stability are all essential to helping him live a healthy and happy life. Abuelito is an indoor family dog and is not to be chained or left outside.
