Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.German Shepherd dogs, as well as the other herding breeds that we have in rescue, are highly active, energetic, working breeds. They require considerable vetting, exercise, socialization, training, leadership and mental stimuli in order to be well-adjusted, well-balanced, and well-mannered dogs. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings in order to work on his/her leash skills, manners, and social skills. These breeds make great additions to active families who will pamper them, but who will also work with them, as they are smart dogs who need leadership, structure, plenty of activity and mental stimulation. If you are new to German Shepherds (and other herding breeds), please research the breed to make sure this is the dog for you. We ask that you consider the time and financial commitment that your German Shepherd (or other herding breed) dog will require before applying for one. Please review the section on our website (www.heartlandgsrescue.org) 'Is a HUGS Dog Right for You?' for additional information.Ronin is a very sweet boy who was originally rescued from a Reservation in South Dakota and adopted from us as a puppy. Ronin was recently returned to our rescue as a senior (with another dog, Kaiya), due to no fault of their own, when their humans' went through some challenging life changes. Ronin came back to us needing some TLC and vet care. Especially, in regards to a skin issue on his face that had gone untreated for a while. He has received treatment and nothing further is needed. He is doing great, other than he may not be able to completely regrow fur in all spots, due to how long the issue was neglected. He has already regrown so much fur, though, and he looks so great!Ronin is such a character! He is a friendly, funny, goofy boy, who is fairly well-behaved on outings. He can be a little barky around strange dogs but reacts well to correction. He does well meeting new people easily when out and about. He benefits from slower introductions when meeting strangers in the house, as he is more protective of the other animals in his home. Ronin is dog-friendly, just needs slow introductions with new dogs over a couple of days. He does well with all the adults and kids in his foster home. At the end of the day he always wants to jump up and snuggle with his humans. He is a very sweet boy!  Like any of our dogs, this handsome boy would make a great addition to an active home that will provide the love, structure, good leadership, activity and mental stimulation that her breed needs. Because of that, Ronin's ideal owner will have prior GSD or other herding breed experience. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, please remember that you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings, in order to provide sufficient stimulation, ward off boredom, and work on leash skills, and manners. Ronin's adoption fee is $225, all of which goes back into offseting our high-cost vetting expenses and rescuing more dogs.  We are a 100% volunteer-run rescue group and rely on adoption fees and donations to continue saving lives. Adoption fees include spay/neuter, current on age-appropriate vaccinations, fecal, deworming, flea/tick and heartworm preventative, heartworm tested if old enough (and treated if positive), and microchipped. Please visit http://heartlandgsrescue.rescuegroups.org/info/adoption for more information about our adoption process and requirements, and to apply.   Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Please review the information in the 'About Us', 'Important Considerations' and 'Adopt' sections on our website menu, as it contains useful information about the breed, adoption fees, the adoption process and our requirements, and how meeting the dogs works.October 26, 2024, 2:26 pm

Please review the section on our website (www.heartlandgsrescue.org) 'Is a HUGS Dog Right for You?' for additional information.Bianca is beautiful, very sweet two and half year old white German Shepherd that was rescued when she was heavily pregnant. Luckily for her she was able to give birth to her 10 puppies in the comfort of her foster home. Bianca gave birth on July 31, 2024 to ten puppies: six boys (Mozarella, Gouda, Cheddar, Asiago, Feta, and Cheesestick) and four girls (Raspberry, Blueberry, Clementine, and Kiwi). Bianca and all ten of her puppies have been thriving in their foster home. Bianca was a fantastic, very devoted mom. Her puppies are now weaned and in foster or adoptive homes of their own, and it's time for Bianca to find a great fur-ever home for herself. Bianca is so wonderful. She was found roaming the streets scared, heavily pregnant, hungry, thirsty, and overheated. She is enjoying being loved and cared for, and having all the food, fresh water, toys, and a house with lots of love. She rides well in the car, walks well on a leash, and she is a super nice girl. She can initially be a little timid towards new men, but she is a gentle soul. Bianca came to us heartworm positive and now that she is done raising her babies, she can start Heartworm treatment (which would be included with the adoption).  Bianca is a very fast learner. She knows how to sit, does great going potty outside. She does get a little stressed when her humans leave, but is learning that it's ok, they will always come back :). Bianca doesn’t care about cats. She currently lives with cats and two small dogs right now, but she is more interested in humans. Bianca is going to make someone a wonderful family pet, as she is a lovely girl!!! Her foster family absolutely adores her, as do we all, and we cannot wait to see her flourish in her forever home. Bianca's adoption fee is $350, all of which goes back into offseting our high-cost vetting expenses and rescuing more dogs.  We are a 100% volunteer-run rescue group and rely on adoption fees and donations to continue saving lives. Adoption fees include spay/neuter, current on age- appropriate vaccinations, fecal, deworming, flea/tick and heartworm preventative, heartworm tested if old enough (and treated if positive), and microchipped. Please visit http://heartlandgsrescue.rescuegroups.org/info/adoption for more information about our adoption process and requirements, and to apply. Like all GSDs, and other herding breeds that we have in rescue, Bianca will need training, consistency, boundaries, and lots of activity and socialization, in order to be a well-balanced, well-behaved dog. This sweet boy would make a great addition to an active home that will provide the love, structure, good leadership, activity and mental stimulation that he needs. Because of that, Bianca's ideal owner will have prior GSD, or other similar breed experience. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, please remember that you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings, in order to provide sufficient stimulation, ward off boredom, and work on leash skills and manners.
