Story
Spongey arrived to TJO with lots of matting, so much so that he almost resembled a certain sea creature from Bikini Bottom. Once freed from all the stuck together hair, Spongey settled in and started relaxing. He does best in a quiet environment that allows him to enjoy the benefits of frequent naps so he can continue to be playful.OTHER PETS: Spongey is interested in other dogs and has invited play with another older dog. His best fit would likely be with another older dog who is social with a similar play style (not too rambunctious). As with all our dogs, Spongey should meet any dogs he would be living with prior to adoption. [Case by Case (Must Meet First)]OWNER EXPERIENCE: [First Dog] Experience or willingness to learn the benefits of positive reinforcement. KIDS: Spongey is comfortable with handling and has not exhibited resource guarding while at the shelter, he flourished in a quiet space in the kennel and wold do best in a quiet home. Any minor humans should meet Spongey prior to adoption. [Case by Case (Must Meet First)] ACTIVITY LEVEL: Spongey enjoys laying in bed, rolling around in his bed, and playing with various toys. As he feels better is becoming more active and curious about the environment. He is the quintessential old man who refuses to stop playing, even if he can't play as much as he used to when he was younger. He's affectionate when he is comfortable and enjoys being social. Mental enrichment (play, food puzzles, games) will help meet his nees. [Couch Potato] VETERINARY CARE: Spongey will need a good relationship with a vet with bi-annual check-ups to ensure that he has a good quality of life as he continues to age. He is currently in need of a dental that TJO will provide. [Above Average] LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Spongey bond with his new owner as well as help him learn new skills and tricks to keep his mind active. [Minimal] GROOMING: Regular brushing will keep Spongey's coat clean and matt-free between grooms, he should be groomed every 6 -8 weeks. [Professional Grooming] December 1, 2025, 9:54 am
