Story
Have you traveled down the road and back again in search of a pal and a confidant? Well, look no further, the Golden Girls are available for adoption at PK! Introducing Dorothy, a sweet 4–5-year-old Bichon Frise weighing in at 19 pounds. Dorothy's journey began in a puppy mill, but after busting out, she’s looking forward to a brighter future. Observant and gentle, Dorothy finds solace in the company of furry friends and would thrive in a home with a confident canine companion. Patience is key as Dorothy adjusts, requiring a family willing to provide a nurturing environment where she can blossom at her own pace. Vigilance is necessary initially, as Dorothy may be inclined to run off, making careful monitoring around doors and gates imperative. We are looking for her furever home that has a fenced yard for Dorothy to explore and learn how to dog, safely. She can be kitty-tested if you have cats at home. Also, she would be fine in a home with responsible children who will keep her safe indoors. If you believe Dorothy might be your Golden Girl, head on over to lvpeaceablekingdom.info to apply! Have you traveled down the road and back again in search of a pal and a confidant? Well, look no further, the Golden Girls are available for adoption at PK! Meet Blanche, a 4–5-year-old, 17-lb., Bichon Frise. Blanche was rescued from a puppy mill and is now in search of a better life. Like many puppy mill dogs, she is shy and hesitant and hasn’t let us see her true personality yet. Blanche is a sweetheart though and loves watching her surroundings. She enjoys the company of other dogs and would do well in a home with another confident dog. Blanche will need a family who are patient and allow her time to come out of her shell. At first, as she gets settled, Blanche will be a flight risk, so all family members must be very careful with doors/gates and she cannot be left unattended outdoors. We are looking for her furever home that has a fenced yard for Blanche to explore and learn how to dog, safely. Blanche can be kitty-tested. She would be fine with responsible kids who will keep her safe in the house. If you think Blanche might be your Golden Girl, head on over to lvpeaceablekingdom.info to apply! Have you traveled down the road and back again in search of a pal and a confidant? Well, look no further, the Golden Girls are available for adoption at PK! Say hello to Rose, a 4–5-year-old, 17-lb., Bichon Frise. Rose arrived at PK after being rescued from a puppy mill. After years of puppy raising, she is 100% ready for a new life. As is the case with many mill dogs, Rose is currently shy and reserved. She’s very curious, though, and loves to quietly watch her surroundings. In time her true personality will come out! Rose is accustomed to being around other dogs and would do well in a home with a confident canine companion who can show her the ropes. You will need to be willing to give Rose time to adjust to home life, as it will all be new to her. Vigilance is necessary initially, as Rose may be inclined to run off. Thus, careful monitoring around doors and gates is imperative. We are looking for her furever home that has a fenced yard for Rose to explore and learn how to dog, safely. Story
Meet our new crew… first up Winston! Born 5/14/20, this handsome boy has the most expressive thoughtful human-like eyes and expression and is a thinker for sure. He’s confused but curious about the world outside his former home and is warming up quickly. He’s never been on a leash or exposed to much outside of his former dog-filled home and will need some time and patience, and a calmer adult home with at least one other small doggie friend to help him feel comfortable. He would be totally shell-shocked not living with other dogs. Winston is 20lbs, a bit chunky right now, neutered, updated on shots. While he could pass for a bichon/poo, we were told these dogs are all some kind of mix of poodle, dachshund, Shih tzu, and terrier and they each resemble different breeds. Email njwoof@cs.com to meet Winston in Northern NJ See below for the full story of Winston and his relatives: It never seems to be just one dog at a time getting surrendered anymore 😩 These are 4 of 14 dogs needing to be surrendered all from one home. They started with a few dogs, didn’t get them spayed/neutered, yada yada yada, now 14 dogs need new homes as it’s become too much for the owners to care for. We took in these 4 to help avoid them having to go to the already severely overcrowded shelter, and animal control is working with the owners to slowly get the rest safe placements as space opens up in our and other rescues. These little ones were definitely loved and seem to be in pretty good shape physically, all between 2-4 years old. All are scared to be leaving behind the only home they have ever known and haven’t been on leashes or socialized with other people. But they are warming up and taking treats already and we. An tell they are going to be very sweet little ones. They aren’t bonded to each other, but due to their nervousness they will likely need to go to homes with another friendly dog in the home as they wouldn’t know what to do with themselves if not around dogs. They are said to be a mix of poodle, dachshund, terrier, and Shih tzu, although they all look like completely different mixes. Winston the boy is 20lbs and resembles a poodle/bichon. Scruffy little Chipmunk girl is 14lbs and looks like a Yorkie/wire haired doxie. Her sister Emma could pass for a long haired chi/pom/papillon and is less than 10lbs. And the most terrified (and therefore our favorite of course- she peed and pooped all over us in terror carrying her in) Rebel is a 20lbs mohawked scruffy doxie/terrier looking creature with an underbite and pink nose. They will all be vetted and be ready for adoption very soon as we get to know them better. If you have a calmer adult home with at least one other dog and are interested in giving one of these little ones a home, email njwoof@cs.com to meet them in Northern NJ once they are ready Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. To streamline adoptions, all communication before, during, and after the adoption process is done through email only: we have limited volunteers able to return phone calls. Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process and email any questions to us at njwoof@cs.com. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.

Story
Meet Mr. Scout! This almost 3 year old 13lbs mix is another of the 10 skittish but sweet little dogs we took in from a home who ended up with too many dogs due to lack of spay/neuter 🤦‍♀️ He’s warming up and looking to bond to someone, taking treats, and following his new and old doggie friends around learning from them. He looks like a bichon/poodle type mix but these dogs are all said to be a mix of doxie, poodle, Shih tzu, and some kind of terrier 🤷‍♀️. All look different, even some littermates don’t even look related! He is much more comfortable around other dogs due to his past and will need a quiet adult only home with at least one other doggie friend already in the home to help him adjust. Email njwoof@cs.com to meet Mr Scout in Northern NJ Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. Story
Meet one of our newest puppy mill rescues, Millie! This 5 ish year old Bichon girl spend her whole life in cage in an Amish puppymill and is still getting used to the idea that there is a better life out there. She’s timid but sweet and already starting to wag her tail at us, the boldest and most social of the most recent bichon trio we took in. She had an entire pack of Q-Tips’ worth of yeasty debris in her ears and is getting treated for an ear infection as well as a dental, and she’s spayed and updated on shots. She loves other dogs and is a follower, so a home with at least one other more social dog is a must for sure. Housebreaking and leash walking are still foreign concepts and she will need time and patience. She’s 17lbs full grown and ready to start her new life. Email njwoof@cs.com to meet Millie in Northern NJ Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ.
