She absolutely loves to give hugs and soak up affection, making her a wonderful companion for anyone looking for a loving, people-oriented dog. Iduna has a gentle, submissive personality and has been okay with other dogs she has met. Iduna is heartworm positive and has received doxycycline as part of her treatment. She is doing well and doesn’t let that slow her down one bit. She’s truly an all-around amazing girl—kind, affectionate, and easy to love. Whether she’s cuddling up with you or quietly enjoying your company, Iduna is happiest just being close to her people. If you’re looking for a sweet soul who will gladly wrap you up in hugs and unconditional love, Iduna may be the perfect addition to your home.

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.   Jill is a beautiful black and tan hound mix that came to the shelter with 5 puppies who were ready to be weaned. She took very good care of her puppies and they were all moved to rescue. Jill has been fully vetted and spayed and it is now her turn to find a new home. Jill is very friendly with people, but particular about other dogs. A meet and greet will be required for any adoptive home that has other dogs. Jill is frustrated at the shelter and barks and jumps on her door. Once she is out of her room, she calms down and enjoys her leash walks. We cannot say for certain that Jill is house trained; however, treating her like a puppy and keeping her spaces in her new home small, taking her out often, and praising when she goes potty outside will help her understand what she is supposed to do. Meet Meg, a black-and-tan coonhound mix with timeless hound charm, soulful eyes, and a heart of gold. Her personality truly depends on her environment, revealing two very different—and equally lovable—sides. Out in unfamiliar places, Meg is calm, docile, and a bit nervous. She takes things in quietly, approaching new situations with caution and soft curiosity. She greets people with gentle tail wags and kind eyes, even if she’s unsure at first, and gains confidence the more time she spends with her person. On leash, she’s generally easygoing and comfortable passing other dogs. But once Meg feels safe at home, the transformation begins. In her comfort zone, this mild-mannered hound turns into a high-energy, rambunctious puppy: rough, rowdy, and a little bit wild in the most endearing way. She plays hard; loves to romp and wrestle; and brings big, joyful energy to her indoor playtime before eventually crashing for long, well-earned naps. True to her hound roots, Meg adores running, sniffing, and exploring. She loves other dogs and would do best with a confident, highly energetic canine companion who enjoys rough-and-tumble play and can match her stamina. Meg is sweet-natured, people-friendly, and not aggressive—just bursting with enthusiasm. Meg is still learning that containment equals safety. She needs continued support getting comfortable with barriers like baby gates and crates. Mikey is a big chunk of a boy, he is approx. 75-80 lbs. He is a quiet boy and very neat. He will be available for adoption on 7-20-25. Visit him at the Rockbridge Spca or email manager@rockbridgespca.net heartworm tested: negative visit our fb page: dogs of rockbridge and rockbridge spca. NOTE: all animals adopted are taken straight to a local veterinarian for spay/neuter. We do adopt out of area providing adopter is will to make more than one trip. There are NO exceptions, and we do not hold animals. All Kittens and puppies must weigh 2 lbs. for surgery and there are a limited number of veterinarians in our area that will do a pediatric spay/neuter. please note the Rockbridge Spca does not have emotional support animals or service animals. we do not adopt to college students, however, they are welcome to volunteer.

No, I'm not a grouch from Sesame Street (although I do have my moments), and I'm not the messy Oscar from the Odd Couple. I am Oscar the hound. A redbone coonhound to be precise. Since I am a hound, my nose leads the way on long walks. I am great with other dogs. I especially love to relax outdoors in the sun and I am house trained. I also know basic commands and take treats well. I love car rides! While I am primarily good-natured, I can be protective of food, toys, and objects that I think are mine. I would do best in a home with no children and a strong experienced owner. A few other things about me. I do the "Oscar dance to make a pitch for some yummy treats. Also, I always, always have a smile on my face. I love low-key living and know a great home is out there for me. Come and visit to see my Oscar dance, and let's get to know each other! If you have the experience and are looking for a dog to hang out on the back porch and bath in the sun. I am the Oscar for you.
