Story
Meet Laurenne!! This 1-year-old Black Mouth Cur mix, has endless energy to give. She enjoys long walks, and zoomies in the play yards. She would be perfect for a family who loves to go on outdoor adventures. She would do best with a family who has kids over the age of 5, as she can be jumpy. She has been working on her leash training and does best with a harness. She knows how to sit for treats, and is very treat motivated. She could be easily trained with persistence and time. Laurenne is young, and still has much puppy energy to give. She is dog friendly, but does best with another active and playful dog who can play with her all day long. If you have another dog at home, we do offer meet and greets. As well as a Slumber Party program that allows you to take a dog home for three days to see if they are a good fit for your family before adoption. So come on down to HSSM and meet her today!

Story
His name is Max. He is the best dog in the world. He is very sweet and has a lot of love to give. He is definitely one of a kind. He is an inside/out dog (mostly inside). He sleeps in my bed at night. Pros: -trained on basic commands -crate trained -good on lash -good around people -good around chickens, ducks, geese -good around other dogs -good around other animals -cuddles and hugs. -He will let you know If he needs to go outside Cons: -house trained, but if he smells something in his area that is new or in his space.. he may pee on it. -He is very smart and athletic like an Olympic athlete. Very Talented and can get out of almost anything. -He can be great with strangers, however when it comes to strangers coming into the yard. Well, he will not let that happen. He has nipped at the neighbors for trying to come by when no one was here. (never bit) This would be a pro for me, if I had a different living situation. He is definitely protective. But this currently is con.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.LOOKING FOR A NEW BEST BUDDY? Buddy is a Black Mouth Cur mix just over a year old. He is a former stray but has come a long way in his behavior. Buddy is friendly to people and animals, although large and aggressive dogs sometimes frighten him and cause him to act out. Being a young dog, he likes to run and play. Sometimes he doesn’t realize that he weighs more than 55 pounds and can overwhelm cats and very small children. If left unattended, Buddy can be destructive. He also can escape a fenced-in yard. The good news is that he is crate trained. He’s also house trained, neutered and obeys commands to sit and “go to your room.” He needs additional training to break him from jumping on people. This is a courtesy post. Buddy is not in care of TDR. Keep in mind that sometimes dogs listed as a courtesy post are rehomed without TDR being notified. Available through Tired Dog Rescue, Gulfport, MS. Fee: $100. Apply at tireddogrescue.org  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.February 24, 2024, 11:44 am

UPDATE!!&#226&#156&#168 Meet Roscoe and Rosa. The shelter sent out a plea for help because they were having to make difficult decisions to make space due to overcrowding. We were sent these babies and thankfully had a foster step up! Roscoe & Rosa are some sort of of mixed breed. Maybe cur mixes!? They are 12 weeks and around 15 lbs. They have settled into their foster home and are are loving it. They have cute little cuddly personalities. They love to play and be with with their people. They are great with all animals and people. Eager to please and very smart. They are utd, dewormed and altered. Sadly, Roscoe had a little tumble and fractured his paw but it is splinted  and healing!   Our adoptions are NOT on a first come first serve basis and there is no fee to apply! We never state any animal is fully House-trained. New environments, situations, families, routines, ect. can lead to accidents even with the most well trained animals.  All dogs have a $175 adoption fee which includes vet check, age appropriate shots (atleast 2 sets for puppies), dewormer, heartworm test (if over 6 months), rabies (if atleast 16 weeks) and spay/neuter! Puppies/Dogs that are not available for adoption due to vetting not being complete can be reserved with an approved application and a non refundable $50 deposit. Deposits can ONLY be submitted once the rescue has been in contact on your approval and it has been requested through Wags and Whiskers. This deposit is applied to your adoption fee and the remaining $125 is due at pick up. Wags and Whiskers is an all-volunteer rescue. Please allow us time to respond to all inquires and applications! Thank you! Story
UPDATE!! Meet Scuttles! This boy was a street dog for the first 1-2 years of his life. One of our amazing volunteers spent months gaining this boys trust and was finally able to catch him. He was covered in demodex Mande and skin infections and with lots of tlc this boy was finally cleared for neuter and is now adoption ready. Scuttles still has some allergies going on boy he’s hair has almost all grew back in and he’s doing much much better. He’s a gorgeous 1-2 year old black mouth cur mix that weigh 60 lbs. He is great in the house, with kids and other animals. He’s utd, hw tested and neutered. Puppies will be altered before adoption. All rescues and shelters practice pediatric spay and neuter. This is essential in our rescue efforts and it is a policy that we will stick by. All dogs over 8 weeks and 2 pounds will be altered before adoption. There are no exceptions to this rule on all healthy and adoptable dogs. We have researched and discussed in depth with multiple vets everything on pediatric spay and neuter and from a rescue stand point it must be done. Please do not ask for an extension on spay and neutering, it will NOT be granted on a healthy puppy!  Puppies/Dogs that are not available for adoption due to vetting not being complete can be reserved with an approved application and a non refundable $50 deposit. Story
NEWBIE ALERT! Meet Roma. This sweet girl was found as a stray by some good Samaritans who have reached out to us for help. She looks like she is a Lab/Cur mix. She is around 1-2 years old and is 52lbs. She is a very affectionate girl. She thinks she’s a lap dog and is extra snuggly. She’s pretty chill and not hyper but does enjoy playtime. She loves other dogs and kids. Has been started on house and kennel training and is a super smart girl who is eager to please. She will complete her vetting 1/3/24 and will then be adoption ready.  Our adoptions are NOT on a first come first serve basis and there is no fee to apply!
