She looks like a Black Mouth Cur mix, but she has a fluffy tail and some interesting coloring on her legs. She walks well on a leash, and is learning that the world is a fun place to explore when you have a safe, warm home and regular food every day! She’s good with other dogs and people, and would love to keep building her confidence.Skipper is doing amazing in her foster home, she's mellow and has been learning new commands quickly. She knows how to sit and give paw, and has gradually been doing amazing with her crate training.Skipper is house trained, and does well with new people once she's introduced. She's such a. Meet May! She's mastered all basic obedience training thanks to classes with Swift K9 Training. She LOVES people and kids, but would do best in a home with children over 8. She does not mind cats at all and completely ignores them. She loves her crate--it's her safe space. She is great on leash and loves walks. May is about 4.5 years old and weighs 55 pounds. She would do best in a home as an only dog, and needs a quiet, calm environment willing to take things slow to help her adjust to home life. She has a lot of love to give to someone who can give her a chance.May came into rescue during COVID with her puppies almost 4 years ago. She has seen so many foster puppies come and go through our barn and continues to patiently wait for her turn for a family of her very own. Hey there, I'm Penelope! I'm a fun-loving girl with a happy attitude. I do great on a leash- I don't even pull! I'm potty-trained and do good in my kennel overnight as long as I have toys to play with! I seem to do good with other dogs but the shelter reccomends a quick introduction before sending me home. I'd love to find my person or family that I can call my own. If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets!
