Meet James, he is a 5 year old Black Mouth Cur who is energetic and loves to play fetch. James is extremely affectionate, loves to cuddle, give kisses and receive pets. He enjoys being outside and would benefit from a large yard where he has room to run and play. James would do best in a home with other large dogs or by himself. He can become a little aggressive when playing therefore would not do well around small dogs or young children. He has not had any incidents of biting, he is simply energetic and can be dominant when he plays. James is up to date on all of his vaccines and weighs about 57 pounds,despite his size he likes to think that he is a lapdog. James has been a very loyal friend and guard dog to me over the last few years. I am relocating out of state and unfortunately not able to bring James with me.

Hello, I'm Cinnamon! This isn't my first go-around here at PCHS. I'm hoping this time around I won't be here as long as I was before...I'm a pretty smart cookie, if I do say so myself. I've ben in a home with children under 6 years old and I am a good family girl! I'm also loyal to a fault, friendly as can be, and have a sweet disposition that's sure to win you over. My playful, energetic spirit keeps things lively around here. I must admit, I prefer human company to other dogs or cats. I guess I just love the one-on-one attention! I do great on a leash and am crate-trained. My previous home said I was potty-trained too.  If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to request an appointment to meet me. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. No need to call to find out about me, you can ask questions on the application or email questions to info@polkcountyhumanesociety.org. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and Minneapolis, MN areas twice a month. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual and we will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veteinarian ($35). We are the most beautifullest puppies ever ever ever!! AND the LUCKIEST OF PUPPIES!!! We were found as teeny weeny pups, our mama died and we were all alone at 1 week old....BUT WE WERE FOUND!! And we were raised as bottle babies which means we are loving babies who think you are their mama and daddy :) But enough of the past... we are alive and happy and raised to the point we can find our OWN families!! Nala is a sweetheart who has been through alot of traumatic events. She’s special in her own way. We got her from Sedalia Animal Shelter in MO. When we first looked at her she had been adopted 3 times before we finally adopted her. My husband really wanted her and I loved. We knew she would be hard work but we didn’t know how hard it would be. She has grown a lot and has matured in a lot way. She was timid and scared of loud noises and smoke alarms and would hide. Now she just goes to her bed. She’s playful and loves cuddles. She sheds a lot and hates baths but we’ve grown to manage it. She is 4 years old now. Nala has definitely showed signs of being abused. She doesn’t get along with other animals at all and will bark to protect her territory and is very over protective. She hasn’t been around kids enough to be known as aggressive towards them but if people are invited to your home she is playful. I am looking for someone who can understand her situation and work with her like us.

Brody I wish I was a Belgian Malinois! I look in the mirror and see the rugged dark face and good looks of a Belgian! But I am sure that is wishful thinking. I don't know what I am exactly. I mean I know I am a dog, but what kind is kind of a mystery as we were raised by bottle moms because our real mom died when we were only a week old. I didn't even have my eyes open to see what color she was at that age. But you can't really miss what you never really knew, right? My bottle baby foster mom was good and kept our tummies full! But she stopped giving me bottles about 2 weeks ago and then we started with the kibble and soft stuff which is good too! But I kind of miss being held until I fall asleep, so maybe my new forever family would do that for me, even if there isn't a bottle associated with it. I was born on 2.11.24 so that is the day to put on your calendar so we can celebrate it every year along with my Gotcha Day. We can celebrate your birthday too if you want. I like to hang out with my sister Ruby and sometimes will play with Gumby, when he is not exploring his world that is. And we love to play with Alma, the foster mom's dog with long hair. She lets us crawl all over her and pull her tail and everything. And the cat is cool to play with too. So, I am good with whatever kind of pets you have in the house because I love them all!
