Story
FUN-LOVING AND ENERGETIC PUP  DOB 12/1/23, WEIGHT 25 pounds at 4 m/o (~55 pounds expected at maturity) Hey there, everyone! I’m Biscuit, a super-sweet, happily effervescent brindle-fawn Black Mouth Cur mix gal who just loves everybody and therefore craves to maximize my time with all ages of hoomans! When I bat my sweet brown eyes at them, they know I’m expressing my eagerness to please them. I’m a fun-loving and energetic pup who enjoys playing with my foster family as well as entertaining myself with my toys. I’m a very good girl whose favorite chew toy right now is a dilapidated old Croc shoe. I’m a quick learner who is already leash-trained and obeys a few simple commands like “sit” and “no.” Although I haven’t mastered potty-training 100%, for the most part I’ve learned to be crate-trained. I know about cats, but they don't know about me. And, of course, I love food! In case you’re not familiar with the temperament of adult Black Mouth Curs, we’re big-hearted, versatile, brave, highly intelligent, and easily trainable (as long as training's consistent). We were bred for stamina and love to work, so it's best if you provide us with regular exercise such as daily long walks, Frisbee-throwing at the dog park, or participation in dog sports. When I’m full grown, I’ll have a strong, fit, athletic appearance and, like most athletic dogs, will flourish when both my mind and my body are stimulated. My rescue story is a sad one. My momma, 2 siblings, and I were dumped in a neighborhood in southwest Houston. Unfortunately, my momma didn’t survive being hit by a car, and my siblings evaded capture and disappeared. I wandered up a driveway to "surrender," so I was taken to BARC by a well-meaning neighbor. My fortunes changed, however, when another neighbor saw my photo on the BARC website, came and bailed me out, and took me home to foster me! Now I’m ready to find my happy-ever-after forever family. Could that be you? Hopefully my sad story has plucked your heartstrings, and my new lucky-leash on life will continue when you meet me and I capture your heart. If you’re ready to fall head over paws in love with me, arrange to meet me today! Be ready for me to cover your face with mushy puppy kisses! HOPE ID 24-0318-0010 If you are interested in Biscuit and would like to fill out a Dog Adoption Application, please go to: http://www.homelesspets.net/adoption-forms/dog-adoption.php . Submitting an application does not obligate you to adopt from us but it initiates contact with us and gets the process started. If you have questions prior to filling out the application, email us at Lisagilchrist16@gmail.com  and a volunteer will get back to you. July 26, 2024, 12:19 pm

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
-Brooklyn is a super sweet, young, and active girl. While some of her background is unknown, the time before being rescued seems to have been challenging. She was found heavily pregnant with another pregnant female, seemingly abandoned, and struggling. Luckily, they were able to find a safe space before they both gave within a week of being found (Brooklyn had 10 puppies)! All puppies have since gone off to foster or forever homes. Brooklyn has since been spayed and is looking forward to finding the right match to be her forever home.-Loves affections from her people! She would do best as the only animal in the home. She currently lives with a very laid-back/submissive neutered male dog. She does well outside the home but because of her background, Brooklyn can be very protective of resources inside the home. She could potentially work with another submissive dog with slow introductions and if provided with committed training/the understanding that while working through these behaviors, items such as bed, food, water, toys will need to be kept separately. She seems to be friendly and excited meeting dogs outside of the home but for the same reasons mentioned before, would not be a good candidate to take to places such as dog parks where she isn't able to be managed on leash. Currently lives with a dog-savvy cat and is a little too interested but does back off when asked to do so.-Did well with older kids in her finder's home for a few weeks. No younger kids as all those living in the home will need to understand boundaries regarding resources. She also can be mouthy/jumpy when excited but is easily redirected if provided with a toy.-Knows how to sit, is kennel and potty trained, and does great in the car. Walks well on leash most of the time but sometimes forgets her manner if she sees something exciting. She initially did bark when hearing strange sounds and when seeing strange people while riding in the car or walking around, but this has already improved greatly within the few weeks she has been in foster. As she builds trust with you and feels safe, I expect this will be a minimal or non-issue with time.-Has moderate to high energy level and is always up for an adventure! She would be a great camping, hiking, or running companion, or with somebody who is home often so she can frequently get her energy out throughout the day. Currently she is in her kennel during the day while I am at work and goes for a long walk when I get home. This works for her but if her new home is gone during the day, she should be provided with ample exercise afterwards. Brooklyn can keep herself occupied with her stuffed duck/other toys or treats for aggressive chewers when needed. -She should be easy to train as she is very eager to please and enjoys praise, treats, and/or toys as a reward.
