Afton is well-mannered and eager to pleasefriendly happy go lucky and so darn sweet! He enjoys group play, daily pack walks, and meeting new people and dogs. Afton is amazing with dogs of all ages and sizes, cats too. He is very outgoing and amazing with children too. Afton is a follower if a dominant dog is present. He is active but not hyper and genuinely happy. Afton will make an extraordinary family dog with an active affectionate outgoing family. He has a hound-like personality. He is all heart! Basic obedience extraordinaire. He enjoys being active and learning and is extremely food and praise motivated. Afton makes training FUN! He Is a simple dog with a big heart full of love and ready to share it with everyone he meets. You will have fun with Afton. He knows how to make everyone smile, and laugh, and helps a difficult day become better. It comes naturally to him as he is very nurturing and sweet natured. Afton needs another dog in the home. He is a hound this alone makes him almost perfect. I promise you will not be disappointed. Afton is house and crate trained, up to date on all appropriate core vaccines including lepto, corona as well as rabies, de-wormed, fecal tested negative, micro-chipped, neutered, and on monthly heart-worm flea/tick prevention. Story
Meet Copper!A 65lb, 3-year-old, Bloodhound with a nose that never quits! This handsome hound loves putting his sniffing skills to work and is always eager to investigate the world around him. Copper enjoys being around other dogs and is happy to hang out with his canine friends, though he’s more of an observer than the life of the party.Copper has shown interest in playing ball — chasing it is the fun part, but bringing it back? That’s optional in his opinion! Like many Bloodhounds, he may come with a little slobber, but he shares it generously as part of his loving personality.Affectionate and sweet, Copper enjoys spending time with his people and will happily soak up attention, but he’s also content relaxing nearby without needing constant entertainment. He’s a laid-back companion with a loving heart and an incredible nose, ready to find his forever home.We do all adoptions with approved applicants by appointment only. If you are interested in adopting, please contact us via FB Messenger or email us at jcasreception@johnsoncounty.in.gov for an application. You can also find one on our website at http://johnsoncountyanimalshelter.com/adopt/. Once an application is submitted and approved, we can set an appointment to meet the pet!

Story
Meet Sunny short for Sunflower. She is believed to be a bloodhound shepherd mix possibly retriever. a year old at most. Sunny was pulled from a local shelter Christmas of 2021 after a hoarding abandonment case of 27 plus fearful feral dogs left behind in a property. The home was condemned, disgusting filthy. A home in such condition, no animal or human should have to live in. Sunny and 3 others call the sanctuary home for the time being, all are doing amazing with their rehab, learning what life as a loved pet should be. Sunny struggles to settle in and takes more time then the others. She is the one that stresses easily when meeting new people but with a playful active dog mentoring her she does so much better. She slowly warms up some when it comes to people, still unsure if she wants human affection at first but will always take a treat, moves in for petting, willing to snuggle and even cuddle. Sunny loves all the dogs, is good with cats and small critters too. A 100% secured fenced in yard is a must, A home with other pets is required. At least 1 other balance playful, outgoing dog for her to follow/gravitate toward. Sunny has an amazing personality she herself is still learning about who she is. Always best to approach her slow at first. Sunny needs a lot of confidence still, and that requires a lot of patience with no set time frame and expectations ever. Allow her to live life 1 day at a time. Sunny walks amazing on leash, barks very little but barks. is very playful, loves treats, and eventually settles in. Sunny is house and crate trained, up to date on all appropriate core vaccines including lepto, rabies, de-wormed, fecal tested negative, micro-chipped, neutered, and on monthly heart-worm flea/tick prevention. Updated: 2/1/2023 www.animalhousesanctuary.org We believe training is an ongoing process that needs to be worked on daily. New issues that arise, need to be addressed and/or rewarded.
