Story
Meet Ellie Mae! Sometimes, saying goodbye is one of the hardest acts of love. Ellie Mae came to us after her beloved owner became ill and was no longer able to give her the care she deserves. He was heartbroken to make the decision, but knew finding her a new home was the best thing for his girl. Now, we're determined to make sure Ellie Mae's next chapter is everything she deserves. At 9 years old and 80 pounds, Ellie Mae is a beautiful Bloodhound mix with a heart as big as her paws. And if you're looking for a dog who has mastered the art of taking it easy, you've found her! She's an incredibly easygoing, calm, and laid-back girl who is perfectly happy lounging around and enjoying the good life. But don't let her couch-potato status fool you—mention the word WALK and suddenly Ellie Mae is ready to clock in! She loves getting outside, walks beautifully on leash, and is always happy to hop in the car for a ride. She's also house trained, travels well, and knows "come." Ellie Mae enjoys being pet and will happily hang out with her people, though she's not necessarily demanding constant cuddles. She's not particularly interested in toys and can be a little selective about her treats, but honestly, who needs toys when you have walks and a comfy place to nap? She's wonderful with dogs, adults, men, women, and elderly people, and her foster describes her as having no aggression and no concerning behaviors. She doesn't resource guard and is generally a very chill girl. Cats are currently untested. She does bark at the vacuum cleaner and was startled by a school bus, but otherwise she's pretty unfazed by the world around her. Ellie Mae isn't looking for a complicated life. She just wants a comfortable home, some good walks, a soft place to land, and people who will love her for the rest of her life. After losing the home she knew through absolutely no fault of her own, she deserves to know that her next home will be forever. Story
Millie came from a Newfie breeder that had a female get out of the yard while in heat for about 30 minutes. She bred her to another Newfie but when the pups were born something wasn't right. She DNA tested her and she has golden retriever and bloodhound in her as well as newfie. So she turned to us for help placing them in loving homes. We still have 3 girls available and they were born on Feb 19. Millie has the most perfect eyes! And she is definitely a poser. She can be prissy but she can also play hard! She also loves the water. If you are looking for a gentle giant that loves affection and water, Millie is your girl. She is UTD on all required vaccines and is microchipped. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.*** Check Out My Video Album Below! *** Meet Crispin, a Pyr mix who is discovering just how wonderful life can be! His DNA says he is 75% Great Pyrenees and 25% Bloodhound, which explains his classic white Pyr body paired with an adorable hound head. He has a long, luxurious white coat that he absolutely loves having brushed. Crispin came from a hoarding case in Tennessee and is still learning that people, routines, and all the good things that come with a loving home aren’t scary. He is making wonderful progress and showing us what a sweet boy he is. Crispin is housebroken and crate trained, and his overall house manners are coming along nicely. His foster family has been working with him on confidence, routines, and schedules. He has a low activity level and is happiest taking it easy - he loves to sleep! Crispin has been exposed to male and female dogs of different sizes and has shown no preference - he is happy to be around them all. He would love to have another canine companion in his forever home to continue teaching him how to be a dog. He hasn’t been exposed to cats yet, but he seems very chill and may do well with proper introductions. He has shown no interest in chickens, which he sees from a distance. He has also had lots of people coming and going and generally responds by quietly watching the action before settling down for a nap. When the neighbors come over, he gives plenty of happy tail wags, so we think he has a real soft spot for friendly folks and kids! Crispin is also a great little travel buddy - he is perfectly fine in the car. He loves being brushed, and his absolute favorite treat is beef liver. One of his sweetest breakthroughs happened when he learned to ask for treats and gently take them right from his foster’s fingers. He is turning into an absolute softie! He is learning to trust, and slowly discovering that humans can be kind. His ideal home would be a quieter family, young or old, with another canine companion and a 5-foot securely fenced yard. Most of all, Crispin needs people who will be patient, loving, and willing to continue building his confidence and trust at his own pace. Give this boy a little time and a lot of love, and you may just discover the sweetest dog in the world! NGPR Pooch Profile Name: Crispin in VA  Age: 20 weeks old as of beginning of September 2026  Color: White  Dew Claws: Yes, Double  Estimated Adult Weight: 100+ lbs  Current Location: NGPR approved foster in Vienna, VA  Medical: Pup will be placed on a spay/neuter contract with a date specified for the spay or neuter procedure to be performed by. Housebroken: Yes  Can Be Placed With: Dogs, Cats, Kids  Fencing: Secure VISIBLE fencing is required; invisible fencing WILL NOT contain this breed. Fees: Adoption fees are determined on a sliding scale depending on age, location and transport. Transport costs are included in the adoption fee. Fees for dogs adopted locally start at $400 and can range up to $700 for puppies under six months. Puppies placed on spay/neuter contracts receive $100 back when the dog is spayed or neutered. Fees for senior dogs (7 or older) and foster dogs will be adjusted accordingly. More Information: Questions? The fastest way to learn more about a dog is to fill out our Adoption Application. If you call or e-mail you are reducing your chances of adopting this animal as we direct our time and energy to first serving those who apply. NYS Registered Non-Profit Rescue # RR102. National Great Pyrenees Rescue (NGPR) has been rescuing and adopting out Great Pyrenees since 2006. Our relationship doesn’t end with adoption, as we continue to support adopters throughout the lifetime of their dog. Our goal is to assess every application on its own merits. Key considerations are: 1) the experience of the applicant with large breed dogs 2) children in the household or regularly visiting the household are ready for a large-breed dog who is a guardian by nature and 3) the sex of other dogs currently residing in the household to avoid same-sex aggression issues. For puppies under six months old, the applicant’s ability to socialize the puppy with older dogs is a priority. We have many Pyrs and Pyr mixes who need homes. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.*** Check Out My Video Album Below! *** Russet (also known as Russ) is a handsome Pyr mix, with DNA confirming that he is 75% Great Pyrenees and 25% Bloodhound. He has the classic Pyr body, paired with an adorable hound face, and his long, luxurious white fur with golden brown spots makes him quite the head-turner. His tan “helmet head” is especially lovable and perfectly matches his goofy, sweet personality. Russ came into rescue from a hoarding case in Tennessee along with his two brothers, Crispin and Macintosh. Together, these three handsome boys are affectionately known as The Apple Gang! Russ is housebroken and crate trained, and he is currently working on learning schedules and polishing up his house manners. He has a wonderfully low activity level and is happiest snoozing the day away. He does enjoy being outside and currently prefers outdoor lounging, although he is beginning to appreciate the finer things in life - like air conditioning and having a roof over his head when it rains! He doesn't do much digging and, despite being a Pyr mix, we have hardly heard him bark at all. Russ doesn't mind riding in the car once he gets inside, although new things can be a little scary for this shy boy. Squeaky toys are fun, and he absolutely loves being brushed! Russ has been exposed to all kinds of dogs - male and female, big and small - and he loves them all once he has a chance to get to know them. He has not yet met any cats, but given his very laid-back nature, we expect he would likely do well with them. He also lives near chickens and has shown no interest in them, although he has not shared the yard with them. When it comes to people, Russ has had lots of folks coming and going and tends to prefer a quiet spot of his own, often choosing to snooze peacefully under the azalea bush. He did really well when children came over to play. He is still quite shy, but we don't foresee any issues with respectful, gentle children. Russ is going to grow into a big, beautiful goofball, and his sweet face will make you want to smooch him all day long. He would do best in a quieter home where he can take his time gaining confidence and discovering that the world isn't so scary. A canine friend is important for Russ, and he would be especially happy with a friendly dog or two to show him the ropes and keep him company. We can picture him being absolutely adored by an older couple or enjoying life with a gentle child or two, as long as things aren't too boisterous. A securely fenced yard of at least five feet would be wonderful for Russ to stretch his legs, explore, and play with his canine pals. Underneath Russet’s shy exterior is a truly gentle, loving boy. He was named after an apple variety, and we think it's fitting because he really is the apple of our eye! With his luxurious coat, irresistible helmet head, sweet hound-like face, and goofy charm, Russ is ready to find his forever family and show them just how wonderful life can be when you have a big, soft, lovable boy by your side.
