"This dog tested positive for heartworm disease before arriving to the rescue. Heartworm disease is transmitted to a dog through a bite from an infected mosquito producing a positive test in six months. OPH will treat the dog and provide two weeks of recovery time prior to adoption. Potential adopters will receive detailed information on the disease and their role in completing the recovery process from OPH’s heartworm coordinator. With monthly preventatives, the disease is completely preventable. Story
We are looking for an experienced dog owner who will lovingly embrace a very loyal, affectionate, though challenging bloodhound. Our dog has struggled with anxiety & reactivity throughout her life and we are looking for a home without children, elderly or pets. She is a great companion and watch dog, although is easily agitated by the sight/sound of nearby people or dogs. She is housebroken and can easily spend much of her day sleeping on the couch with sufficient exercise (fenced yard is a must). Due to her anxiety, she is particular about how she is handled and requires an owner receptive to her communication for boundaries. She has participated in multiple professional training programs and knows all basic commands, but requires continuous positive reinforcement to ensure receptivity to vocal commands as any unwanted physical touch can result in snapping. She has food allergies and requires a hypoallergenic diet. Overall, a sweet and devoted companion in need of a special home.
