Story
Meet Smokey! The most handsome 5 m/o Blue Lacy x Whippet mix with a stunning grey coat and a heart that’s just as soft. This boy is the ultimate cuddle companion, he’ll happily sleep beside you and melt into your side for comfort. Smokey can be shy and a bit vocal at first, taking a little time to feel safe in new places or around new people. But, once he warms up, you’ll see the sweetest, most loyal side of him. He's playful in short bursts, always affectionate, and devoted to his person. He’d do best in a calm, patient home (and would LUV a mellow female dog friend, too). With kindness and reassurance, he’ll bloom into the LUVing, steady companion he’s meant to be. Ready to fall in LUV? Fill out an application to meet Smokey today and let this heartthrob be your furever date. All Mutt Luv Rescue pups receive a full health checkup, heartworm and parasite testing, are fully vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed/neutered before adoption.

These pups are in Santa Cruz, California too!

Story
HI - I'M PACO! I am a sweet 1-year-old Australian Cattle Dog mix in need of a forever home! I was rescued from the streets of Ensenada, Mexico, by a compassionate Canadian couple who then tried to find me a home. Eventually I was placed in a rescue and am doing great! Now, I spend my days running around, playing with my doggy pals, and then taking a much needed nap! I weigh only 40 lbs and am a happy, fun-loving boy. I am an affectionate sweetheart and love nothing more than to snuggle. I'm also fully housebroken and great with cats! Personality-wise, I'm quite mellow but I do get excited when I'm showered with love and attention. I can't wait to become someone's best friend! Please email for an application.

Story
Meet Motley, the mixed breed. We suspect Motley is a mix of breeds but have him listed as a cattle dog mix. Motley arrived to the Shelter with his, seemingly, brother Saxon as strays. We do not know about their lives before the Shelter. Although they arrived together, we are looking for separate adoptive homes for them. Staff have observed that Motley walks nicely on leash and is attentive. He has met Maya, a female German Shepherd, and enjoyed playing with her. A dog friend in the home may be a match, especially if they’d want to play with Motley. We’d recommend any resident dogs meet at the Shelter prior to adoption. We do not have a history of Motley with children or cats. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

Story
MEET BLITZ, an 85-lb stunning Doberman male who is waiting for his forever home. Blitz is a large Dobie, almost 2 years old. He is a dark red, almost chocolate color and is magnificent in appearance. Blitz is currently in training in the Los Angeles area to overcome some fears and quirks he has had in the past. He is affectionate with people he knows but in the past was tense and suspicious with strangers, especially if he is in a confined space. He can also be a bit stubborn, though his training is helping tremendously. Blitz gets along great with other dogs-- he has previously lived happily with a female Doberman in his foster home. Because of his size and strength, a home without small children is mandatory. Blitz has high energy and would benefit from having a yard, where he can run and play. Blitz is also hypo-thyroid so is on inexpensive thyroid medication, which will likely be forever. We believe Blitz is of European ancestry and like all Euro-Dobies, he has heavier bones and a larger head than the more petite American Dobies. Blitz is without question a lot of dog! But he is a lot of really good dog. Doberman or large-dog experience is a must for his adoption. Please email for an application.
