Story
Meet Jasmine, the Doberman! Jasmine arrived at the Shelter after her previous guardian passed away and there was no one able to take Jasmine in. She has been described as calm, polite and quiet since her arrival to the Shelter. Family members that knew her previously describe her as a great lap dog – just wanting love and hugs. She would go to the dog park but was sometimes a rough player. We have not observed that at the Shelter and have noted that she has been polite in introductions to dogs small and large. She has been around cats and avoids interaction with them. A home with felines may be a fit with a slow, thoughtful introduction. She has a history of doing well with children in her previous home. Jasmine is very food motivated and will sometimes try to steal food from other dogs of the opportunity presents. Jasmine does have some medical needs that adopters will need to follow up with their veterinarian about after adoption. Our clinic team can consult with potential adopters when they come in to meet! The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

Story
Meet Valentino! He is a sweet, smart, energetic big baby. We adopted him from San Jose because he filled our heart with his sassiness and loving heart, and after seeing how skinny and in extreme need he was, we did not have the heart to leave him there overcrowded. We decided to bring him home to help improve his health and personality, which he has been since day 1. He is at home with 4 cats and 3 dogs and gets along great with the cats and was unfortunately previously under-socialized with other dogs which has not been an easy adjustment and we have kept him separated from the dogs for his comfort. We know he has so much to offer and want him to have a very happy, stress-free life. So we will not return him to the shelter, but we would like to find him a good loving forever home.

Story
Meet sweet old man Tempo! He is a 10 year old gentle Dobie. He is very affectionate, mellow, easy to walk. He likes to play with toys and hang with his humans, and is fascinated by other dogs. He likely has some sort of neuro condition, as he often turns in circles, but he doesn't let it dampen his spirits... he just wants to live out his golden years with a family who is willing to see past his circling and enjoy him as the positive being that he is. If you are ready to open your heart and your home to this social soul, please ask to meet Tempo Tempo has participated in shelter playgroups and may enjoy a compatible canine friend in his new home. Looking for a buddy for your dog? Bring him/her for a meet and greet and see if we're a match! Check out his playgroup video below ##2580665##

Story
Beautiful NORA is a 5-year-old Doberman mix who has already been failed once... and now she's about to lose her life. She originally entered the shelter as a stray, redeemed by her owner, just to be surrendered for the holidays. Now Nora is sitting in a kennel, confused, terrified, tail tucked, shaking as the barking around her never stops. She is not a bad dog - her former owner said she is good with people she knows, knows basic commands, and is loving and a loyal dog. ##2629071##
