Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Teri is a beautiful girl who has spent much of her life in shelters—four different ones since 2022. Despite that, she has remained a loving, gentle soul. She does wonderfully with kids and dogs of all sizes and ages. Teri is a no for cats, as she tends to pester them relentlessly (for everyone’s sanity, including hers). She truly doesn’t have a mean bone in her body. While she may be a little shy when meeting new people, she warms up quickly and forms strong bonds. Teri enjoys playtime and can be vocal while playing, so we’re looking for an adopter who is comfortable with barking, growling, and noisy play—especially someone with dog experience. She is smart, attentive, and happiest when she’s right by your side. Teri is ready for a patient, loving home where she can finally settle in for good.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.January 17, 2026, 5:35 pm

Story
Name: Hayden Age: 2 years Breed: Catahoula Leopard Dog Size: 35 lbs Special Needs: Heartworm positive. Will need treatment. Adoption Application: https://forms.gle/nuKXoMu6gjS5DhFm8 Contact: transport@hssm.org Meet Hayden, a 2-year-old Catahoula Leopard Dog with striking looks and a lively, loyal spirit. Found as a stray in Long Beach Mississippi he was brought to the Humane Society of South Mississippi. He’s smart, alert, and loves having a job to do — whether that’s exploring the outdoors, playing with purpose, or learning something new. He did seem a little reserved and shy at first, but with a little time and meeting new people he has become more comfortable with his surroundings and has opened up a bit. Hayden thrives on activity and engagement, making him a great match for an adopter who enjoys adventure and understands working-breed energy. He bonds closely with his people and brings both enthusiasm and devotion to the relationship. He does fine around other dogs. He is a little unsure at first but once he has a few minutes to warm up he starts to run around and play with the other dog. If you’re looking for a bright, athletic companion with personality and drive, Hayden is ready to put his heart to work for his forever family. Hayden is up to date on vaccines and prevention. He will be neutered upon adoption and even though he has tested positive for heartworms we have no doubt that with proper treatment he can live out the rest of his long life happy and healthy. Hayden's $300 adoption fee includes spay/neuter, up to date vaccines, microchip AND transport fee to a location near you. We currently have transportation to CT, MD, NJ, NY, PA, VA, GA, and TN. Please email transport@hssm.org for more information on transports! --> If you are interested in adopting Hayden please fill out our online application here: (https://forms.gle/nuKXoMu6gjS5DhFm8 - Dog). A staff member will reach out if your application is approved to discuss the adoption process. No fenced in yard required, and YES - we adopt to families with children! The adoption will not be final until the adoption contract is discussed and signed. Transports are arranged for specific dates, typically within 1-3 weeks of approving your application. Adopters will meet at a designated meeting spot to pick up their new companions. For further information, please first fill out the application referenced above. **Due to import regulations we are not able to adopt to MA or RI residents at this time.

Story
Name: Lizard Age: 2 years Breed: Catahoula Leopard dog mix Size: 31.4 lbs Adoption Application: https://forms.gle/nuKXoMu6gjS5DhFm8 Contact: transport@hssm.org Lizard is a lovable 2-year-old, 32-pound pup who came into our care as a stray in mid-October 2025. From the moment he arrived, his gentle nature and happy spirit have made him a shelter favorite. He has a great amount of energy and loves to start his day with a few joyful zoomies, but once he gets that out of his system, he settles into a calm, affectionate companion. Lizard already knows how to sit, is eager to learn more, and loves working with people. He’s wonderful with other dogs and would thrive in a home with playmates or a family looking for a friendly, easygoing addition. His sweet personality, good manners, and fun-loving attitude make him an amazing family dog in the making.
