He is sweet and smart, and he wants a person of his own. When Tucker chooses his person, he stays close to them. He wants to be near you on the couch, on a walk, or in the car.What Tucker lovesTucker loves toys, fetch, walks, car rides, and cuddles. He is a Border Collie, so he has a lot of energy. He needs daily exercise and activity time. He is also very clever. He knows "sit," "stay," "wait," and "fetch/drop." His best trick is "inside voice": when you ask for it, he barks very softly. When you ask for a toy back, he drops it and nudges it over to you with his nose.Good mannersTucker is house-trained and crate-trained, and he walks well on a leash. He is calm when he stays home alone during the workday.HealthTucker came to us overweight from a previous home. He now eats a prescription weight-loss food. His new owner must continue this diet and give him regular exercise. With an active owner, Tucker can become a fit and happy dog again.The right home for TuckerAn adult-only home. Tucker has never bitten anyone. But he becomes nervous and territorial around young children, so he needs a home with no kids.The only pet. Tucker is selective with other dogs and cats. He will be happiest as the only animal in the home.An active owner. A yard and daily play time are ideal.Patience at the start. Tucker is usually good with new people, but some people take more time. When he trusts you, he is a loyal and loving friend.Why Tucker needs a new homeWe love Tucker very much. Our family has a 4-year-old daughter, and Tucker is not comfortable around small children. He needs a calm home where he can relax and be himself.If you want a smart, loyal dog who will play fetch all afternoon and then cuddle all evening, Tucker is your dog!

Story
Through no fault of his own, tiny baby Jax found himself at a crowded Louisiana pound in early March. He was soon pulled by a local rescue and has been thriving and growing in foster care ever since. Jax is more than ready to find a family of his own! We aren't sure of Jax's history or breed make up, but our best guess is some sort of Australian Cattle Dog or Lab mix. As of late September, he is 9 months old and weighs 40 lbs. We expect him to be around 50 lbs at maturity. Jax's foster mom says, "He is playful and LOVES toys, especially his giant turtle... when he was smaller, he curled up and slept on it and now he still tries to sleep on his turtle. There aren't many things that Jax does not love but some of his favorites are: playing outside, playing with our dog, playing with the neighborhood kids, playing in water, food (he is VERY food motivated and eats from a slow feeder bowl). He is doing well with learning to potty outside. He will whine/bark when he needs to go outside. He has the cutest little ears and really seems to listen when you talk to him and even tilts his head from side to side. He sleeps quietly through the night in his crate and does listen if you tell him "no"." Jax has recently been able to go on several road trips with his foster family and has been amazing. They report he is wonderful in the car and loves the RV life. So, if you are looking for a travel companion, Jax is your boy! Jax is a wonderful pup who has had a great start in foster care. He is more than ready for a forever family who can continue his training and social skills to help him grow up to be the best boy! Jax has completed his full series of puppy shots and is current on heartworm/flea/tick prevention and deworming. He is neutered and microchipped ready to travel to his forever home! Jax is currently in foster care in North Louisiana, but we welcome out of state adoptions. We have an amazing transport that delivers all along the East Coast... PA, NJ, CT, NY, VT. PAWS of NE LA was formed back in 2003, and we have been sending our special Southern dogs to wonderful homes up North since 2010.!
