Story
Happy Feet is a gentle female Border Collie mix with a soft heart and a deeply loyal spirit. She can be very shy when meeting new people or facing unfamiliar situations, and she is especially fearful of men. Because of this, she will need a patient, understanding home—ideally one that can go at her pace and allow her to build trust slowly and safely.True to her Border Collie nature, once Happy Feet chooses her person, she bonds strongly and wholeheartedly. When that bond forms, she becomes wonderfully attentive—alert to every move her favorite human makes and happiest simply being close by.She does well with other dogs, particularly calm, respectful ones, but she truly prefers people. Pushy or overly jumpy dogs make her uncomfortable, so she would thrive best with mellow canine companions or as the sole focus in the home.Happy Feet knows a few basic commands and appears to be potty-trained in the shelter setting. She’s a sensitive, thoughtful girl who will flourish in a calm, predictable environment with people who understand that trust is something she gives slowly—but once given, it’s forever. If you’re looking for a loyal shadow and a once-in-a-lifetime bond, Happy Feet may be the perfect match for you. Interested? Email us at TransitionCenter@charlestonanimalsociety.org to set up an appointment to meet her today in Ravenel! ????

Story
Porter is a handsome fella who may have some border collie in his bloodline. It was reported to us by a previous owner that he had separation anxiety when left alone in a house. He has done well with some dogs at the sanctuary, but not all. We would not recommend that he live with a cat. He has been friendly to every person he meets and has a relaxed personality.

These pups are in Charleston, South Carolina too!

Story
This is Ruth! Ruth was left behind from a previous owner who refused to take her with them and was told to send her to the pound. Of course i was not going to do that to this dog! She is loving, and wants nothing but human attention 24/7. If she could be your conjoined twin I think she absolutely would do it. She currently lives with me in a condo with a 5 year old and two cats. So she is very accepting of all creatures. She is crate trained, potty trained, knows a few commands, however she tends to pee when she meets new faces! She is very nice, but sometimes does not understand personal space. I unfortunately am in the process of taking care of my elderly parents and I work very odd hours and would love if Ruth could find a home that would be able to give her the time that she deserves. She loves walks, loves to roll in the grass, loves her chewies and rope toys. All her crates/toys/etc. will be giving free. Most importantly I just want her to have a loving home.

Story
Hello! This is Rex, the best boy ever! Rex deserves a family who will give him all the attention his big heart deserves! Unfortunately for my cat, he loves to be the center of attention so they don’t get along. He’s very energetic and has a humorous personality. If you live alone and want someone who’s *always* with you, he *will* be your best friend. If you have a huge family- even better for him! The adoption fee isn’t a big deal to me, he needs a good family who will spoil him! Rex has a clean bill of health but was “allegedly” (no one knows exactly what happened) hit by a car before we got him so he has hip dysplasia. Luckily, it does not bother him nor has there been any issues to arise from it! Jumps (a lot), runs, and loves just fine.

Story
These are the puppies people don’t always see 💔🐾 This litter was found in an extremely rural part of South Carolina—an area with little to no access to low-cost veterinary care and an animal control system that is so limited and overwhelmed they simply cannot take in puppies. In places like this, puppies are quite literally left to survive on the streets. And it’s devastating. Their mama was found deceased in the middle of the road. Her babies were discovered wandering back and forth between the roadway and an abandoned house, desperately trying to stay close to her. There were six puppies total, and heartbreakingly, one of them did not survive. The remaining babies are now about 6 weeks old and are heavily infested with hookworms, leaving them weak and in urgent need of medical care. Their start to life has been unimaginably hard, but thanks to quick action, all of the surviving puppies are now in foster homes where they are safe, warm, and finally receiving the love and care they’ve always deserved. For now, these babies are focused on healing—getting proper medical treatment, gaining strength, and learning what it means to be puppies in a safe environment. They will not be available for adoption for at least two more weeks as we work to give them the very best chance at healthy, happy futures. Their story is a painful reminder of why rescue work is so critical, especially in underserved rural communities. Right now, they are surrounded by love, soft beds, full bellies, and people who care deeply about their outcome. Please keep checking back to follow their journey. Their story isn’t over yet—and we’re committed to making sure the rest of it is filled with hope. 🤍
