Story
This is Jenna, a beautiful Husky-Border Collie mix who is looking for a loving home. It may take her some time to warm up to new people, but she is pretty easily coaxed out with a tennis ball. If you give sweet Jenna some time, she will show lots of love. She’s a high-energy, protective, and incredibly loyal companion. She’s strong, smart, and loves being active. She also reportedly knows a few tricks, such as `sit,` `down,` `come,` and a few others, and is eager to learn more. Jenna would do well with someone experienced in handling confident, independent dogs. She absolutely adores her people and will be a fiercely devoted companion in the right home. If Jenna sounds like the right fit for your family, come down to Charleston Animal Society and meet her!

Story
Porter is a handsome fella who may have some border collie in his bloodline. It was reported to us by a previous owner that he had separation anxiety when left alone in a house. He has done well with some dogs at the sanctuary, but not all. We would not recommend that he live with a cat. He has been friendly to every person he meets and has a relaxed personality.

These pups are in Charleston, South Carolina too!

Story
In Summerville: Jinx went to the vet two weeks ago and received high praise for what a good boy he is. This weekend he had a trip to the groomer so he can be as handsome as ever when he goes to his new home. Again he received rave reviews for being a good boy. He is 1 1/2 years old, is crate trained, house trained and other than counter surfing he has great house manners. Jinx is on the bigger side for an Aussie, he is higher energy and plays hard with other dogs. Him and his foster brother love to run and play in the yard but it’s very rough and tumble and sometimes very growly but it’s always in fun. This boy is a true diamond in the rough. His bad habits are simple and should be easily trained as long as there is lots of structure and lots of treats. His beauty is not for the feint of heart as he can be a bit of a bully if he is given too much leeway. He bonds well with his humans and just wants to be loved. He will need regular exercise but then at the end of the day he would love nothing more than to curl up with his person. I would be cautious in adopting him to a home with small children as he can be herdy and doesn’t always know to keep his body subtle around others. He is neutered, up to date on shots, heartworm negative and available for adoption if Summerville SC. If you are looking for an active, fun dog then Jinx could be the perfect dog for you. If you think he is perfect for you , pleaes fill out our application: https://www.australianshepherdsfurever.org/adoption-application There is an additional $20 microchip fee which includes registration and transfer to his new furever family.

Story
In Summerville: Meet Millie. Like most rescues she has had a rough start to her life and has some PTSD but she is really starting to work through them and build trust with people. She is a beautiful 3 yo blue Merle that came from a puppy mill. When her breeding life was done she was put on a euthanasia list but luckily was saved by our rescue. Upon coming to rescue she was incredibly untrusting of people and had no emotion in her eyes. She would not let me pet her and would not eat food while I was in the house. Fast forward 6 weeks she took treats for the first time but still didn’t trust enough to let me pet her. Getting into her personal space would trigger a frantic response to get away. Now after 11 weeks I can walk up to her and pet her. She still will not come to me for petting but you can see in her body language that she really wants to be loved. Another trigger for Millie is having a collar and leash put on. This makes her freeze and shut down. We have been working on this and making slow progress but it is improving. She is very collar sensitive so will need continued work on that. Millie may never be a cuddle buddy but she will make someone a great companion dog. She will need someone kind and gentle but also someone who will push her to try new things to help build her confidence and gain trust in people. She has come such a long way but still has quite a way to go. Because she is still so unsure of her surroundings and quick movements scare her I would not recommend her for a house with young children. Her sweet disposition and eagerness to get over her barriers will melt your heart the minute you meet her. She gets along well with my dog although she does not engage in play. She is discovering toys and starting to have fun throwing them around. Anyone willing to put in a little work to build a relationship with her will get a fantastic loving dog that will show a loyalty unmatched by many dogs. If you think Millie is a good fit for you, pleae fill out our application: https://www.australianshepherdsfurever.org/adoption-application There is an additional $20 microchip fee which includes registration and transfer to her new furever family.

Story
Meet Xena – a 5-year-old purebred, registered Australian Shepherd looking for a home where she can thrive. She came to me a year ago to help a friend transitioning out of the military. Due to life changes, they couldn’t take her back, and now I’m searching for her forever home. She’s 5 years old, full of love and personality, and true to her breed—loyal, sweet, smart, and energetic. She knows how to sit, lay down, and shake paw (especially if there’s food involved!), and loves being near her people. While she’s not perfect on a leash, she never wanders far—she’s always checking in and watching over everyone like the natural herder she is. When we visit my parents’ farm, she lights up—running, exploring, but always sticking close to the family. She needs more of that kind of life— She needs space to play and be the brilliant, bouncy Aussie she was born to be. If you’re looking for a loyal adventure buddy, a farm dog, or best friend Xena may be your girl.
