Meet Valerie! Valerie is approximately 7-8 years old and is thought to be a possible Border Collie mix. Valerie was found as a stray and no one came to claim her, which breaks our heart because she is the sweetest, happiest girl who loves people! Because of her circumstances, we don't know what her life was like prior to being found and we're simply learning about her as we go. Valerie is polite and well mannered. She is great in her kennel and loves her dog bed. She also keeps her kennel clean and waits to potty until she goes outside, so we think she's potty trained. She walks well on leash and greets everyone with a wagging tail! Valerie should do well around other pets & children as long as everyone is properly introduced and supervised. Because we don't know her past with other animals, we recommend taking things slow while she adjusts to all of the new information. So far, Valerie seems to be an easy-to-please girl who enjoys being by people more than anything! She has a nice moderate energy level so she'll enjoy a daily leisurely stroll with you, but won't ask you to run a marathon. As long as you give her a belly rub every day and let her snore on a cushy dog bed, she'll be happy! We are doing all meet n' greets BY APPOINTMENT ONLY after an adoption application has been generally approved: https://monroecountydogshelter.com/apply-adopt.html Valerie will be fully vaccinated & spayed prior to adoption. Her adoption fee is $200

Hello, my name is Shilo! I'm a 6-year-old female. My paperwork lists me as a border collie/heeler mix, but my friends at CRHS think I also have some german shepherd in me. I am current on my vaccines, heartworm tested, spayed, and microchipped. 3 words that describe me: Loyal, Smart, Curious Things staff and volunteers have to say about me: Everyone at the shelter says I'm the sweetest girl! Sometimes I'm a little shy when meeting new people, but once I get to know you we'll be friends forever. I'm very smart so it shouldn't take me too long to learn new commands! Activity level/Energy Level: (1-10): 6/10 Housetraining Status: I am housetrained! I should do well in a home: Any children in my potential home will need to be 12 years or older. I should do well with other dogs given proper introductions and time to adjust. My friends at CRHS are unsure how I'd do with cats. My favorite activities are: Being with my humans and eating yummy snacks. Things I need work on are: I could use some work on my weight loss. I also could brush up on my basic commands and leash walking. We are Cajun and Grit! We came from a local home of too many animals in general. We were kept in the barn or kennel our whole life thus far. We have now come to the shelter and are blossoming! Grit is more brave than I, but I have come a long ways! We both love to go for walks. A few meetings may need to happen as new things are a bit frightening. We would love an active person or family!

My name is Rachel. I was adopted as a puppy, but never socialized the best. I came back to the shelter and have been working hard on meeting new people. I do have the 'stranger danger' bark when in my kennel or behind a gate, but do very well without a barrier present. I love to go for 5-6 miles walks and ride superbly in the car. I would love an active person or family! I may take a few meetings to get comfortable with you, but then you will have the best buddy ever!
