Meet Rose! Rose is a 2 year old female Australian Shepherd mix who is looking for a new forever home! Rose was removed from a welfare/neglect investigation and had a very rough start in life. Unfortunately she was not only kept in horribly unsanitary conditions, but she was also neglected from life outside of the 4 walls of an outdoor kennel area, meaning she never got to experience things like walks, car rides, meeting people, interacting with other dogs, sniffing leaves, or even just being an Australian Shepherd and getting to work on a farm. Because of this, Rose's adopters will need to understand that much of what we know as normal might be entirely new to her, and it may require patience while she learns. In order to help Rose learn skills before she's adopted, the folks at Fun Fur Pets in La Crosse have been fostering her in their 2nd Chance to Shine program, where she will continue to be provided with enrichment and rehabilitation so that she can be the happiest girl in her future life! She will brush up on skills like proper manners, basic obedience, and they'll continue to learn more about her social interactions. So far she's been incredibly friendly and happy around people, but seems selective with other dogs, so she would likely be best as your only princess. She will do best in a home with children over the age of 10, depending on the experience level of her adult owners. Rose may do well as a working farm dog, or simply as a house pet, depending on how much training & conditioning her family would be willing to do. We do not know how she would do around farm animals, as we don't believe she has ever met any. Even though Rose endured a great deal of neglect in her life prior to intervention, we're hopeful that the right family will come along and show her how wonderful life can be! Meet Aveeno! Aveeno is approximately 1 year old and is thought to be an Australian Shepherd-type mix. Aveeno was found as a stray in another county, missing almost all of the hair on his body. At the time, his skin was inflamed and he had infection, but luckily he found humans who were willing and able to help him and was quickly on his way to recovery! We were then able to pull him into our shelter to help with space, so we'll be able to be a part of his recovery journey as well. Something tells us that Aveeno has a spectacular coat waiting for him once it all grows in!!! While we cannot wait to see the full results, we understand that this process can sometimes take a long time, so his new family should be patient and ready to provide him with his medication & baths while he recovers. We cannot imagine how uncomfortable that must've been for his poor body - his skin seemed even sun burnt without the protection of his hair. While at the other shelter, he received oral medication as well as medicated baths. We will continue to re-evaluate his progress as he stays with us! Aside from his physical neglect, Aveeno is one of the sweetest boys you could ever meet! He loves everyone he meets, especially if you have treats! This also means that he'll probably be super easy to train! He does know some basic commands already, and would love to learn more. He needs help learning how to walk on leash without pulling, but rides nicely in the car, takes treats nicely, and responds to his commands. He's great at keeping his kennel clean, but because we don't know what kind of potty training schedule he may have had in the past, we recommend a 'refresher course' in his new home, as well as utilizing a crate while he adjusts to the new routine. Aveeno should do well around other pets & children as long as everyone is properly introduced and supervised. So far he's got a nice moderate-energy level, and would likely make an excellent adventure & exercise companion without being overly hyper. (keeping in mind that sometimes their energy can change once they're back to normal health & condition!) Aveeno very clearly suffered neglect in his life, but that hasn't stopped him. We're hoping to find him a family who loves that face as much as we do, and is who is dedicated to making sure he never has to experience that again! If that's you, follow the link below!
