Axel is a lovable, curly-coated guy who’s ready to bring joy, laughter, and lots of hugs into his forever home. This sweet goofball is full of energy and personality. If it can be turned into a toy, Axel will find a way! He loves to play, explore, and make fun out of just about anything.
Axel is also celebrating all the big (and little!) milestones in life. He recently conquered the stairs like a champ and had the time of his life experiencing snow for the first time—he’s a little sad it’s gone, but he still happily rolls around outside like every day is a celebration.
Smart and eager to learn, Axel picked up “sit” in just a day or two. With a little peanut butter or cheese (two of his absolute favorites!), there’s no doubt he’ll continue impressing you with how quickly he learns.
Axel adores his humans and is a world-class hugger. He can be a little apprehensive in his crate, but that’s only because he loves his people so much—he just needs reassurance that you’re coming back. With patience and consistency, he’ll feel safe and secure. He gets along well with other dogs, though he can show a little food guarding, so continued guidance and structure will help him thrive.

Old Dominion Humane Society (ODHS) Adoption Process
- Complete our Adoption Survey on the Adopt page of our website at https://www.olddominionhumanesociety.org/adoption-survey to expedite the process and arrange a meet-and-greet. Expect a response within about a week; please check your spam folder. As we're 100% volunteer-run, your patience is appreciated!
Requirements And Donations
- Required Adoption Day Items: A martingale collar and a non-retractable leash (available for purchase at ODHS).
- Adoption Donations: Puppies (under 1 year): $375; Adults: $275; Seniors (age-dependent): $175; Select dogs: $500. We accept cash, debit, and credit cards.
- Adoption Radius: Within 350 miles of Fredericksburg, VA. A $50 out-of-state fee applies.
- Breed Identification: Dogs are listed as "Mixed Breed" unless formal documentation is available.
Location And Hours
- Visit our adoption center at 3602 Lafayette Blvd, Fredericksburg, VA 22408 during adoption hours: Wednesday 5-7 PM; Friday 6-8 PM; Saturday 11 AM-3 PM; Sunday 11 AM-1 PM.
