Approximate Age: 3 years Approximate Weight: 40 lbs Meet Axel! Axel is a lovable, curly-coated goofball with a big personality and an even bigger love for his people. This high-energy boy thrives on attention, play, and adventure, and he’s happiest when he’s right by his humans’ side. 🐾 People-focused and affectionate — he leans in for hugs and stays close like he’s always been yours 🎾 Playful and full of life — he finds joy in the little things and will turn anything into a game 🦴 Lights up over toys and bones, proudly trotting off to enjoy his treasures 🧠 Smart and eager — already knows “sit” and responds to a whistle or “Buddy,” just wanting to make you proud 🚶 Walks well on a leash with or without four legged friends 🛏️ Sleeps peacefully in his crate and enjoys it as his safe space 🐕 Enjoys other dogs and can share happy, playful moments with them 🐈 Has shown to be respectful around cats in foster, but note his playful demeanor 🚽 Working on potty habits but rocks a belly band when necessary Things to know: ⚡ He has a big zest for life and will thrive with an active family who can match his energy 🍖 May be protective of high-value items, but hasn’t shown this in foster — just something to be mindful of 🔊 Loud or chaotic environments can overwhelm him — he’s happiest where he feels safe and understood Axel isn’t just looking for a home — he’s looking for his person. Someone who will see past the energy and the nerves and recognize the incredibly loyal, loving dog he’s becoming. Give him a little time, a little patience, and a lot of love… and he’ll give you his whole heart in return. 💛🐶 ********************************************************************* Schedule a meet-and-greet by completing our Adoption Survey on the Adopt page of our website at https://www.olddominionhumanesociety.org/adoption-survey. Story
🌟 Adoption Spotlight: Meet Koda! 🌟 Say hello to Koda, our handsome and intelligent Border Collie mix! 🐾 Koda is neutered, microchipped, heartworm negative, and fully vaccinated with Bordetella, Distemper, Lepto, and Rabies. He’s also on monthly flea/tick and heartworm prevention — healthy and ready to go! He is around 5 years old. This sweet boy is crate trained and does well with other dogs, though he prefers larger canine friends over smaller ones. Like any Border Collie, he’s got a natural prey drive and a strong desire to run, so a fenced yard and an active home are a must. Koda isn’t suited for livestock work — he’s looking for a companion home where he can use his smarts for play, training, and fun adventures. Koda is extremely intelligent and eager to please. He knows sit, hug, and roll over, and is working on improving his recall. Once he learns something, he doesn’t forget — he’s a fast study and a total people-pleaser! Though shy at first, Koda quickly warms up with patience and kindness. He can be a submissive pee-er, so gentle introductions are best. He’s also a bit of a “perimeter dog” — he loves running the fence lines, exploring his space, and keeping an eye on everything happening around him. Fun fact: Koda has had his name for several years and knows it well, so his future family will need to keep “Koda” or choose something similar like “Kody.” If you’re looking for a bright, loyal, and athletic companion who will keep up with your adventures and make you laugh along the way — Koda might just be your perfect match! 💛 📍 Location: Louisa, VA 📩 Interested? Meet Joey - the pup everyone falls in love with! Joey is the kind of dog who wins hearts instantly. With his adorable face, white tipped tail and sweet personality, it’s no surprise that everyone who meets him can’t get enough. He’s a truly nice boy with a loving and fun personality. Like his sister Jasmine, Joey is affectionate and eager to please. He loves being around people and is happiest when he’s getting attention, learning something new, or enjoying a tasty treat. Joey walks nicely on a leash and is off to a great start with his manners. He’s still young, which means he’s the perfect blank slate - ready and excited to learn anything you’d like to teach him. Whether it’s basic commands, fun tricks, or joining you on adventures, Joey is all in. Come meet Joey at one of our adoption events. You won’t be able to resist him! Questions About this Animal? Story
Jasmine is new to us and has not gone to a foster home yet but here is what our very experienced kennel manager told us about this beautiful dog: “Jasmine is sweet & very loving. Every time I blow her a kiss, she ducks her ears in response:) She is easy on a leash and absolutely lives for attention from people. She has unique markings on both of her sides. (Is that a batman sign or mickey mouse ears??) She is eager to please and so happy to be with people and to be petted. Her kennel is always clean in the morning so I'd say she is housebroken. She walks really well on a leash with no pulling. Jasmine has so much love to give. She will make you the center of her world.” Please come to our adoption event to meet Jasmine, you won’t be disappointed. HART Homepage: https://hart90.org/Adoptions.aspx Questions About this Animal? Approximate DOB: 10/20/2025 Approximate Weight: 24 pounds (as of 3/24) Embark DNA Results from Littermate: 65.7% Australian Cattle Dog 14.1% Labrador Retriever 10.2% Boxer 8.2% Siberian Husky Here’s what my foster mom has to say about me! Friendly & Social: Gets along wonderfully with both cats and kids, making him a great fit for many types of families. Leash Skills: Does well on a leash—and sometimes even tries to “walk himself,” which is as cute as it sounds! Outdoor Fun: Loves going on walks and has a blast running around. He’s especially fond of finding sticks to carry and chew along the way. Energy Level: Has a nice balance of playful puppy energy with the ability to relax and settle down. Cuddle Buddy: Enjoys downtime on the couch and will happily snuggle up with you to relax. Puppy Playfulness: Still working on typical puppy behaviors like playful nipping, but responds well to redirection with squeaky toys and frozen chews. Potty Training Progress: Uses pee pads—washable ones are recommended since he thinks shredding disposable pads is a fun game! Crate Comfort: Does well in his crate for a few hours at a time, especially with calming chews. 💛 He’s a sweet, playful pup who’s learning quickly and would love a home where he can keep growing, exploring, and cuddling with his people! As a puppy, I am required to go to training within 90 days of my adoption with a certified trainer. ********************************************************************* Schedule a meet-and-greet by completing our Adoption Survey on the Adopt page of our website at https://www.olddominionhumanesociety.org/adoption-survey. Story
I purchased Cupcake from Pet smart almost a year ago. Cupcake's birthdate is March 07, 2025, so she is almost one year old. I'm looking for a loving, active home that understands the needs of an Australian Cattle Dog. She loves running around outside like most dogs and is pretty self-sufficient. She will bark when she needs to go to the bathroom or when she is hunger. Those are the only times you will hear her bark.
