Charlie here — part goofy athlete, part loyal shadow, part professional branch collector. I’m a young guy with a big heart, a s
mart brain, and a whole lot of love for my people. If you’re looking for a dog who wants to truly be your companion, I might just be your guy.
My favorite thing in the world is being near my humans. Couch? Perfect. Recliner? Amazing. Floor next to you while you work? Also perfect. I’ll happily follow you from room to room just to keep you company. I’m independent enough to entertain myself with toys, sticks, logs, socks, or shoes if you accidentally leave them lying around, but I’d always rather hang out with you.
I’m very smart and learn quickly when someone takes the time to work with me. I already know sit, down, leave it, and usually come when called. I can also figure out latches in record time, so you’ll want to stay one step ahead of me! I even learned how to open the deck gate after watching it happen once. What can I say? I pay attention.
Outside time is my favorite.. I enjoy walks too, but I can get reactive and pull hard if I spot squirrels, other dogs, or anything that kicks my prey drive into gear. Small dogs, cats, and critters are not a good match for me. Horses also seem highly suspicious in my professional opinion.
I’m fully house trained and generally have good manners, though I may do a little counter surfing now and then. I’m not super food motivated, and I eat when I feel like it. Fetch is also negotiable. I’ll gladly chase the ball, but bringing it back feels unnecessary since you were the one who threw it away in the first place. Sometimes I prefer to toss the ball myself and then go get it. Efficient system, really.
I do struggle with separation anxiety and am currently trying some anti-anxiety medication to help me feel more comfortable. I’ll go into my crate on my own, but I get anxious when the door closes — unless it’s for a car ride. Then I ride quietly like a perfect gentleman.
I can be barky when meeting new people because I like to make sure everyone is safe, but once I realize someone isn’t a threat, I warm up and become friendly. Deep down, I’m a sensitive, loyal dog who just wants stability, patience, and someone willing to keep helping me grow.
I’m still a work in progress, but with time, consistency, and love, I’m going to make an incredibly devoted companion.
