PACC says Buddy was found near airport, but we have no idea where he came from. Jan 23, 2023 pick up date. Buddy has been through a lot in the past few months, but I’m happy to report that he`s doing well now. It’s difficult to determine exactly what breed mix Buddy might be, but Boxer - Pitbull or Boxer - Staffordshire Terrier are both possibilities. The healing nose wound; scars on his neck and ears could indicate a rough past, but it`s also possible that they were from an accident.Since he was so sick and lethargic when we received him, I’m not 100% sure on his attitude – he’s changed a lot since he’s been here. PACC vet did find an old glob of material and hair when they resected his colon. It seems he may have eaten some glass while out on the street. With no previous history, it’s tough to say what he experienced. His surgery was around Feb 10. I think he just finished healing up around April 1.Buddy was house trained when we received him and very well-behaved around guests including a free range toddler, teens, and men and women of various ages. I feel guilty leaving him when I have to go into work, but dogs are resilient and can adapt to being alone for periods of time as long as they have food, water, and a safe space to rest. His teeth were full of gunk so I’ve made a habit of brushing his teeth daily so the odor and cleanliness have improved. He allows me to mess with his teeth, and mouth. I’m happy to report that his fur has substantially improved since we first got him, which I think is a sign of good health. Any diet change has resulted in diarrhea and he vomited a few times when we first got him (likely due to food changes and obstruction in colon.) I slowly got him on a chicken kibble from Costco. WARNING: His farts are silent but violent. He usually eats at 7am and 5pm. He often goes to bed on his own at 8pm and naps alot throughout the day. With snacks at 10 am and 3pm. After his colon surgery I even fed him a little meal at noon. As for his behavior around other dogs, it`s not uncommon for dogs to become more reactive on a leash, especially when they`re around other dogs. I think we need to continue to train him to walk on a loose leash and to stay calm around other dogs. He doesn’t have terrible leash manners and socialization skills, but he’s changed a lot since his colon resection. So I’m not sure WHO the real Buddy Mc. But But is. Layla is the sweetest girl with some special needs. She has diabetes and requires an insulin injection twice a day. She is also blind, but she doesn`t let that stop her. Once she is used to her surroundings she navigates pretty well. She does well crating at night or when we have to leave her at home. She eats really well and drinks a lot. She will let you know when she has go out by standing by the door or crying if she`s in her kennel. She loves belly rubs and gets along with big and small dogs, cats, and kids. She is pretty chill and loves to sleep on her bed or lay in the sun on a cool morning. Her tail is always wagging.

Surfer may seem like an odd name for a dog living smack in the middle of the desert without an ocean in sight, but the principles of hanging loose are universal. Surfer is just riding the waves of life until he finds his forever home. Cowabunga!! In all seriousness though, Surfer is an incredibly smart dog who finds life in the shelter extremely challenging. He has spent too much time here at PACC and urgently needs to find a home. He spent time in an incredible short term foster home and did amazingly!! Here’s what his foster said:“Surfer is a young, smart, and vivacious pup who finds kennel life quite frustrating. I took him for two weeks where he was able to show his awesome potential in a home-like environment. Initially, he was nervous when left alone but he was never destructive and learned the routine, settling more and more quickly each time. He spent his time sleeping the day away either on the couch or inside the crate with the door open, occasionally playing with toys or chewing on a bone. He is also largely housebroken.He regularly went on walks with two of my like-size female dogs. He really wants to find a playmate with the same playful, energetic style. He listens quite well to verbal cues from the handler, even recalling well when out on a walk. Surfer really started learning how to play and then how to relax. We often took naps together and I took him to my mom’s house where he was initially cautious and a little reserved but became comfortable after about 20 minutes. Surfer needs someone who can continue working with him on being the best boy he can be. I know with patience and consistency, he will be an awesome companion. If I didn’t already have seven dogs with different degrees of issues, I would add him to my family.”Surfer also has tons of fans at the shelter- here’s what some of them have said:“Surfer is one of my favorite adventure companions. He has a lot of energy and is really smart. Once outside, we make a dash for the play yard so we can practice some fetch, tuggy, and chase-me. We also practice sit and paw. He has recently learned to sit on his back paws with both front paws up and forward (cute!). A particularly good smell will trigger some rolls in the grass, often accompanied by a belly rub. Miami arrived at the shelter as a stray, but is so friendly it’s clear that she was loved by someone at some point in her life. She enjoys just about every type of treat you care to offer and she takes them very patiently and gently and will sit for them. She also loves to be petted and is easy to leash up and a great walker with little to no pulling.”“I spent time in the kennel with Miami today and she was immediately friendly and eager to greet me- her tail started wagging and she was happy and lively. She easily accepted pets and solicited my attention. She greatly enjoyed every type of treat I offered her, and she took them very gently and knew how to sit for them. She’ll make a loving and devoted companion for the right person.”Miami unfortuantely was diagnoised with rectal cancer and may need follow up by any adopter for further care.
