Story
Zora is a spunky young female boxer. She came into rescue from a local shelter, and before that she lived her entire life in a fenced yard with her littermate.Zora is very playful and exuberant, and loves all kinds of toys. But the thing she loves most is being petted and snuggling with her dog brothers and foster humans. She is completely housetrained, rides perfectly in the car, and walks well on leash with no pulling (see below for exceptions). Zora is working on her house manners and crate training but is extremely bright and learns quickly.Because she wasn't exposed to other dogs and new people, she is reactive to both. However, she can be redirected using treats and responds well to praise. Zora would do best with a well-adjusted/socialized male dog. She loves rough housing with the foster family's 80lb American Bully mix, and is fine with their older male Pug (Zora is somewhat more interested in playing with him than he is in playing with her [🙂] ).The foster family doesn't have any cats or smaller pets, but Zora has shown some prey drive when on hikes. This indicated that she may not be ok with smaller pets, birds, or cats. Dog-savvy, respectful children should not be an issue.Boxer experience (specifically female/puppy) highly recommended. Well-adjusted/socialized male dog of similar size required. Zora will require obedience/behavior training to address her reactivity as specified in the adoption contract. If you are interested in meeting or adopting Zora, please fill out an adoption application! We require professional obedience training from a certified trainer for ALL adoptions. Story
Branson is an adorable, silly, playful little boxer mix. He was abandoned at an overfull shelter at just 6 weeks old. The shelter reached out in a panic. They had no room and desperately wanted to save this little guy that hadn't even had a chance to start life. We were full too - no room, no fosters. But we couldn't let Branson die! With the generosity of Lone Mountain Vet Hospital in Carson City, we were able to board him for a couple days until an emergency foster opened up. Branson is currently living with a large dog and cats. We do require 6 week positive based training to ensure he is getting the best start to life possible. We require professional obedience training from a certified trainer for ALL adoptions. Story
Hi! My name is Joplin (my foster's call me “Jolly”) and I'm the sweetest girl you will ever meet. I'm happiest when I'm with my foster parents following them around wherever they go and helping out at home. I really like to be involved with whatever my family and friends are doing! I enjoy sleeping in lots of places: on my bed, on my blanket in my crate, or outside in the sun. I also enjoy a good walk but I am not made for marathon trips. I do walk very nicely on a leash and I know basic manners. I am deaf and I like to stay close to my fosters and my other dog friends. I'm looking for my forever home. I can't wait to meet you and win you over with my engaging eye contact, warm cuddles, and calm demeanor. We require professional obedience training from a certified trainer for ALL adoptions. Story
Jezzy is a Boxer mix who loves meeting new people! She enthusiastically greets everyone here at HSAR with excited yips and a cheerful little song each time she sees us. She isn't shy about expressing her affection for the people she loves, making sure they know how much they mean to her. Jezzy is incredibly affectionate and playful, and she easily adapts to a home environment. Her enthusiasm for life is infectious and has a positive influence on everyone around her. We have been working closely with Jezzy and we're proud to say that she has interacted well with a few other dogs and even had a playdate where she showed excitement to be around another dog and played well. We think that with proper intros that she can be in a home with other dogs, though it may help if the other dog is male. She has learned to coexist with our shelter cat, and we believe she could live in a home with a cat, provided proper introductions and guidance. She has interacted wonderfully with our Kennels Manager's 8-year-old son and with older children who come to volunteer and walk her.In her previous foster home, she became accustomed to using a gentle leader during walks to prevent pulling and our volunteer trainer has been taking her out for field trips recently to work on her training. She does really well on our walks and has even met strangers with ease. We believe a home with a spacious fenced-in backyard would be ideal for her, offering the space and freedom she enjoys. We are requiring a fence for Jezzy considering her sudden bursts of strength should she see a small animal of interest. A volunteer used Jez to acquire her dog masseuse certification, and Jezzy proved to be an excellent and patient client. She also rides well in the car on her field trips or to her vet appointments. Jezzy recently underwent a DNA test, revealing her genetic makeup as follows: 45% Boxer, 26% Chow Chow, 10% Husky, 5% German Shepherd, 4% Pitbull Terrier, 4% Bulldog, 3% Beagle, 2% Treeing Walker Coonhound, and 1% American Bulldog. These test results have provided us with a deeper understanding of this affectionate dog, and we hope they will assist in finding her a forever home.Jezzy was previously diagnosed with hip issues. However, with underwater rehab, daily stretches at HSAR, and supplements to ease any discomfort, she no longer exhibits symptoms on a daily basis. Her veterinarian does not believe that surgery is necessary at this time, but should symptoms arise in the future, HSAR has funding to cover her surgery thanks to her generous supporters. We have her in the front office and kennels office often and she does a very good job of keeping herself entertained and waiting to go for a potty break. Jez will not require rigorous exercise but she enjoys activities like fetch and tug. She loves being outside and exercising at her own pace. We truly love this dog and we have enjoyed getting to know everything about her but it is very much time for her to find a loving home. Additional resources are available to help Jez transition into a home if necessary. If you would like to meet Jezzy and see what makes her so special to all of us at HSAR, please fill out an online application. Jezzy's adoption fee has been sponsored meaning her future adopter will not need to pay an adoption fee.Foster report: "I can't believe this sweet girl has been at HS for over 3 years! Why?? We brought her home last Thursday and she is one of the best foster dogs we've had. Not one issue or complaint. She warmed up to myself and my husband within an hour of her arrival. She did patrol around the house for a few hours just checking things out, but settled in over the next day very well. We left her home (loose) on Sunday to run some errands and everything was fine when we got back home. However, she was definitely very happy to see us again! ??She is respectful when we let her in or out to the backyard (we don't have doggy doors). We just ask her to sit before we actually let her come in or go out. She is good sleeping on her bed all night long (we always let her out to "do her business" between 8 and 9 pm). I have been letting her out at about 7-7:30 each morning. She is a perfect girl for someone who wants a quiet dog, and has a nice fenced yard. She will definitely give her people lots of love! Please, let's find this sweet girl her forever home."

Story
Jasper is a 3 year old boy who loves all kinds of play, attention, and fun! He is always looking to please the people he is around. He is so charming, kind, and has really come into his own with the help of our staff and volunteers. He is adjusting well to things that previously frightened him, mostly cars and car rides, and we feel that he is ready to get to know a family and head home. He is very dog friendly and seems to find comfort in his dog friends at the rescue, Ivory and Uno. Jasper's adoption fee has been sponsored! His future adopter will not need to pay an adoption fee thanks to a kind donor. From our daily notes about the dogs:"Took Jasper up to the big yard for training. Worked on "come" "touch" "place" "stay" and "free". He did really well on all commands today especially "place". He's really starting to get it down. He was super focused today." It seems that Jasper is and to focus on his commands once he gets the sillies out with a round of fetch or play. They are also working on loose leash walking. He loves fetch, affection, and play time with people and dogs. He is greeting strangers with happy tail wags and seems to settle into a room more easily. Age: 3 years, 10 monthsWeight: 56 poundsOther dogs: Yes!Kids: 12+ for now, has previously done well with kids but he needs time to decompress, establish routine, and continue his work with training. Cats: Interested but not aggressiveFill out an online application at highsierraanimalrescue.org to meet this boy
