Story
🐾 Meet Woody. His past was rough. His heart never was. 🤎 Woody is a handsome brindle-and-white Boxer mix who was found alone on a trail, covered in cuts and abrasions. His face was especially injured—swollen, painful, and infected. Through treatment and healing, Woody was the absolute **best patient**. And now that he’s recovered, we’ve gotten to know the dog underneath those wounds. He is simply wonderful. Woody is quiet, gentle, calm, and incredibly laid-back. He loves being petted, walks beautifully on a leash, and seems perfectly content just being beside someone who treats him kindly. No wild demands. No need to be the center of attention. Just a really good dog looking for a really good home. Whatever happened before Woody found us is behind him. Now he just needs someone to give him the life he should have had all along. 🐾🤎 Interested in adopting? Please review all adoption requirements listed on our "Adopt" page, including requirements regarding spay/neuter of current pets, regular veterinary care, and home/landlord checks.

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
- Friendly, kind and cuddly; happy to lay his head on your shoulder or lap for pets and enjoys giving hugs - Loves playing catch, being in the kitchen while his family is cooking, sleeping on the couch and keeping his yard squirrel-free - Seems to love everyone he meets and is always wagging his tail; makes friends easily, although he may be bouncy and vocal when new people come into his home - Loves chasing his toys, then carrying them around and showing them to you! - Needs some exercise each day to wear him out, but then he can be a couch potato - Knows sit and kennel - good boy! - Was crate-trained and mostly potty trained in his previous home and did not have accidents unless he was left over a long period of time (5+ hours) or it was raining outside (he's not a fan of getting wet); just remember that any dog may need time to get used to a new schedule - Not a fan of loud noises, such as fireworks and thunder - Lived with young children in his previous home and was very sweet with the toddler - A social butterfly with other dogs and will likely do well with different dog personalities- Has been known to chase cats, so he may do best in a home without them - May have allergies (more info at ARL) This pet qualifies for our 7-day Foster-to-Adopt program. If you're interested in fostering to adopt, please reach out to meetme@arl-iowa.org.The ARL's shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most dogs we are only guessing at primary breed. We get to know each dog as an individual and do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not breed label. Spayed or Neutered,
Story
- Loves spending time with people - could YOU be his next BFF? - Young kiddos may be a little overwhelming for this guy, so he'd thrive in a mature home with people who understand and respect canine body language (mature home recommended) - Enjoys like-minded dog friends but may take time to warm up; would be most comfortable with a slow, careful introduction to new pup pals - Would likely benefit from a confident dog brother or sister in his new residence - The ARL's shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs. Story
This beautiful American Bulldog mix absolutely loves attention — all of it! Pets, walks, treats, playtime, even a quick glance her way makes her whole day. Cassie is happiest when she’s with her people and would love nothing more than to devote all her love and energy to her forever family. She came to us as a stray, but from the very first day, her tail hasn’t stopped wagging. Cassie is always up for an adventure and loves meeting new people. What she’s really hoping for now is a family who will love her unconditionally and give her the wonderful life she deserves. Interested in adopting? 🐾 Meet Draco. 3 years old and living life at full personality volume. 😄🐶 Draco is a big lover with an even bigger personality—he’s the kind of dog who makes an entrance and immediately wins everyone over. He’s all about people, attention, and spreading good vibes wherever he goes. Whether he’s leaning in for affection or making sure he’s part of the action, Draco is happiest when he’s with his humans. Playful, affectionate, and full of character, he brings a whole lot of love (and a little bit of chaos in the best way) to every day.
