Cats: Can test upon request Dogs: Meet and Greet Required Adoption fee: $450 Likes: Playing with toys, going on walks, running, and treats!! The Animal Rescue Project (www.animalrescueproject.org) is committed to the best possible veterinary care for the pets it rescues and it is looking for adopters who will be similarly committed. Adoptions are NOT first come, first served! We seek to choose the best fit for the approved adopter and pet. Please understand that these animals are still new to us and their needs and requirements can change at any time as we learn more about them. We will try our best to get them updated online as soon as possible. All dogs and puppies are given a general check-up when they enter our program. They receive medication to remove any intestinal parasites (worms), fleas, and ticks they may have. Dogs greater than six months of age are checked for heartworm. If heartworm positive, the Animal Rescue Project treats the disease. Dogs and pups receive all age-appropriate vaccinations for distemper, and dogs greater than four months of age are also vaccinated for rabies, in compliance with State of Michigan laws. All dogs are also microchipped. Most dogs and older puppies are spayed or neutered before adoption. In the case of puppies not old enough to be safely sterilized, a $50 deposit is required at the time of adoption and is refunded to the adopter with proof of sterilization. The Animal Rescue Project requires every adopter to establish an active relationship with a veterinarian no later than 10 days after adoption. Adopters will receive a plan for routine veterinary care at the time of adoption and are expected to work with their vet to complete the plan.

Story
Much like Anakin Skywalker, the force is strong with me. For real....I am a beefcake! Don't worry, I have not gone to the dark side, a lot of my beefcakiness is put to use holding my bed down. But anyone who is foolish enough to underestimate my strength and challenge me to a tug game will get a taste of the true chosen one! I am a fun-loving good boy; but it is fair to say there is a bit of puppy escapade inside me at times. Practicing the righteous ways of the Jedi has been an amazing pastime for me to keep me on the light side. I love going for walks through the galaxy (really, it's been the scenic grounds at MAS, but a guy can dream right?). With continued Padawan training from an Obi-Wan Kenobi of my own, we can harness the force to positive outlets for me! Which honestly, I am so treat and reward motivated that with consistency, I am sure I could be a Jedi in no time! I am a fairly sociable guy, I have made some canine friends here at MAS, and when I met a cat I was more interested in playing with my rope toy than befriending it. "The biggest problem in the universe is no one helps each other." - Anakin (Star Wars: The Phantom Menace) If you would like to help Anakin by giving him a forever home, submit your adoption application to the website below! DOB: 3/2/2022 For safety's sake, we are looking for homes with physical fenced in areas. Please fill out our online adoption survey at www.mackenzies.info/adopt/adoption-survey-application/

Story
At Christmas time, holiday tinsel is one of the best ways to spruce up your home with some cheer and festivity; but wouldn't it be great to have some of that same tinsel cheer for the whole year? I'm pretty sure that's where I got the name, because that's exactly what I do! I think it's pretty safe to say we all love the gifting aspect of the holiday season, and I am no exception. As you can see from the video, I love toys! Personally, my favorite aspect of every day, is quality time spent together. I am full of that "in front of the fireplace" warmth that is the highlight of the season...or really any season. Snuggling in the laps of all my friends, giving kisses, joy, and laughs every day of the year would be a dream come true! While I can appreciate some kitty-time snuggles, I am much more apt to be in my person's lap cuddling, but I am happy to share a home with a feline friend. I would be happiest in a home with older children that can handle my occasional puppy-like playstyle (that...and I can be a little vocal and pushy about my need for attention sometimes). I would love to have a doggy playmate, but I do need proper introductions with dogs, as I am dog selective. Being dog selective means that I have made several canine friends, but much like humans, I don't care to be friends with every dog I meet. Any potential fur siblings will get the chance to meet me for a play date before I go home, to make sure we get along as well as ribbons and bows! If you would like a little bit of every-day Christmas magic in your home, submit an adoption application to the website below, and I promise to decorate your heart and home with all my love! Story
In 2018 I came to MAS after being surrendered by my family for not having enough time for me. The sanctuary is a wonderful place and all.... but at 5 years old it was a big and pretty stressful transition for me. I have done my best to adjust to my new surroundings, but I miss the quiet home life. My favorite things in the whole world are snuggling with my people and going for scenic adventures. I am not as young as I once was, but I do like getting out and I have grown to appreciate the little things life has to offer. All my friends at MAS get a good laugh spending time with me; whether it be my awkward and goofy smile or the love of my toys (rolling around playing with them makes me feel young again)! You might be wondering why I am still at Mackenzie's and have yet to find my forever family.... Being an older guy, with limited social skills (I should be the only pet in an adult only home), finding the right home for me has been a bit of slim pickin's. But I will always hold on to the hope that somewhere out there I will be exactly what someone is looking for and will get to experience home life again. If you are a lonesome homebody looking for a best friend, I think I might be just what you are looking for! To find out, submit your adoption application below! My birthday is 3/22/13 For safety's sake, we are looking for homes with physical fenced in areas. Please fill out our online adoption survey at www.mackenzies.info/adopt/adoption-survey-application/

Story
Nova means new and this amazing dog is ready for her new forever home. Could it be you? Nova just like her namesake is a bright star with powerful energy. Her loving spirit will melt your heart. She just wants to be with her people. She is both a snuggle bug and a playful, funny girl. She knows basic commands and has been a great addition to her foster family. She gets along with her foster brother, they play and share the house space well, but would need to be cat tested. She loves walks, toys (the tough kind), and time with her humans. She is treat-motivated and has continued crate training and leash work in her foster home, of which she has made enormous progress in a short time. She would need a home committed to continuing this work as well as addressing her allergy issues through diet and over-the-counter allergy medication. Her foster parents are Emily Z.    The adoption fee for Nova is $250.Please complete our online application form if you are interested in adopting Nova. A volunteer will contact you as soon as possible. Click here to go to the online adoption form All Kalamazoo Animal Rescue dogs & puppies are spayed or neutered prior to adoption. Dogs have been heartworm tested and if appropriate (age and time of year) all dogs and puppies are given heartworm preventative. All are given medication to rid them of roundworms and checked and treated for fleas & ear mites, if needed. Dogs and puppies are given distemper vaccines and depending on how long the pet has been in foster care, additional distemper vaccine(s) may be necessary and the expense will be incurred by the adopter. Any canine over 4 months of age is brought current on the Rabies vaccine. Additional vet care may have been provided depending on the particular animal's needs. Dogs are individually priced as above. Please note that we do not ship dogs and we cannot guarantee that a long trip to see a foster dog will result in an adoption or taking the dog home on that day. It is in the best interest of pooch and owner to enroll in an obedience class soon after adoption. After all, you have a lot to learn about your new friend. The Kalamazoo Dog Training Club offers a discount to owners with newly adopted dogs. Enroll before any behavior problems start - you won't regret it! Story
If you're looking for a human toddler in pittie form, Jenny's your girl. Jenny loves suckling her blankies, wearing jammies, and playing with toys. When she wears herself out, she loves cuddling next to you on the couch or following the sunspot on the floor. Jenny sometimes acts demanding like a human toddler, but like a human toddler, she is learning how to use other tools to advocate for herself, like a quiet groan to ask for something instead of a loud bark. Jenny is good with cats, and she would love a playful and laid-back dog companion (a meet-and-greet is required). She has a sweet friendship with another available KAR dog, Gretel, and they love to romp and have occasional sleepovers. Jenny is good with kids. Because of her rambunctious play style and the fact that she's a bowling ball with legs, older kids are the best fit for her. She would love a fenced-in yard. Her foster parents are Kathi V.    The adoption fee for Jenny is $300.Please complete our online application form if you are interested in adopting Jenny. Story
Gretel is the silliest being I’ve ever met. She is so full of life and energy, it’s motivating. We know she didn’t have a great past, and there’s really point dwelling on it because that life is in the rear view mirror!!I would love to see her have a dog buddy to wrestle and run with in her happy forever life. Gretel can come on a bit strong, so it can’t be just any dog. She needs a dog who has patience for a puppy pest! Gretel is mostly house-trained but still has an occasional accident from previously living outside. It took a little bit of time to get her to understand she ONLY potties outside, but she’s 90% there! She’s very treat motivated and loves to learn. It has been a very fun and rewarding experience working with her this far! I can’t say enough good things about this pup. She’s incredible! Her foster parents are Michelle Y.    The adoption fee for Gretel is $300.Please complete our online application form if you are interested in adopting Gretel.
