Rooley was very sick when we first rescued her. She has come a long way! Rooley is a great dog with lots of energy. The boxer in her really comes out when she is playing with other dogs and she "boxes" them with her paws! Rooley loves lots of attention but is also very independent. She loves to go for car rides. She also enjoys long walks. She is good with dogs and kids but not cats. She is so happy when you come home and will greet you with her favorite toy to celebrate. She is coming along with her leash walking and prefers to be an only pet. She travels fairly well. Pitopotamus

American Pit Bull Terrier Mastiff

Female, 7 yrs 8 mos
Southport, NC
Size
(when grown) Med. 26-60 lbs (12-27 kg)
Details
Not good with cats, Needs special attention, Needs experienced adopter, House-trained, Spayed or Neutered, Shots are up-to-date,
Story
Pitopotamus is a sweet and goofy lady who has no idea she is a senior. She does have ongoing medical issues including requiring a prescripion diet for her skin. She gets baths once weekly with a medicated shampoo. This routine seems to be working very well for her. She does also have a sensitive stomach so doesnt get treats or human food. She was labeled as dog aggressive, however, she has gone two years with no incidents and has been introduced to several new dogs. She also was labeled as cat aggressive however has only shown mild interest in cats(always separated by kennel door) unless they swat her then she barks. Due to the risks she needs to be in a home with no cats and mild tempered dogs, with an experienced and patient owner she likely could live with a housemate. Never been around children but is quite clumsy so might knock them over. Her adoption fee would go as a negative credit on her account to go towards future medical care. Up to date on vaccines and prevention!
