Story
Duke is a handsome 2-year old male Boxer mix who was brought to the HSOV on January 30, 2024 by a Washington County Ohio Deputy Sheriff who had picked Duke up (along with his beautiful sister Lucy) on Dana's Run Road in the Newport Ohio area. Duke has a dark brown/black short smooth coat in a brindle pattern, a large white bib on his chest, white paws, a long tail, and an adorable symmetrically-marked face brindle/white face with beautiful brown eyes, a black button nose, and short floppy ears. These photos were taken on February 3, 2024 when HSOV Kennel Tech Sydney Satow spent time with Duke for his Petfinder/Facebook/Adoptapet photos. Duke weighs approximately 65 lbs and is very strong on a leash. Duke has already been neutered and was given rabies vaccine on February 14, 2023. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Duke was held for three days so that his family would have an opportunity to reclaim him with proof of ownership. Neither Duke (nor his sister Lucy) were reclaimed. We've learned that Duke does NOT do well with other dogs (or cats), so he would be looking for a home that he did not have to share with other animals.

Story
Lucy is a beautiful 2-year old female Boxer mix who was brought to the HSOV on January 30, 2024 by a Washington County Ohio Deputy Sheriff who picked Lucy up (and also her good-looking brother Duke) after they were found on Dana's Run Road in the Newport Ohio area. Lucy has a black-and-white short smooth coat with an intriguing pattern, a long tail, and an adorable face with a large black "pirate's patch" around her left eye, a black button nose on her chubby muzzle, and short floppy ears. Lucy has a vivacious outgoing personality and was ready for 'action photos' when HSOV Kennel Tech Bradyn Morris accompanied her for outdoor glamour photos on the afternoon of February 3, 2024. Lucy weighs 47.3 lbs and is surprisingly very strong on a leash since she isn't a very big girl when you see her in person. Lucy has already been spayed and was given rabies vaccine on February 14, 2023. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Lucy was held for three days so that her family would have an opportunity to reclaim her with proof of ownership. Neither Lucy nor Duke were reclaimed. We've learned that Lucy is selective about making friends with other dogs and chooses those that she likes or dislikes. Lucy does NOT do well with cats and should not be placed in home where she would have contact with feline friends.

Story
Boris is an adorable 10-month old male Boxer mix who was brought to the HSOV on April 10, 2024 by the Washington County Ohio Dog Warden who picked him up on Barclay Street in Belpre Ohio. Boris was not wearing a collar, and he was not microchipped. Boris has a brown short smooth coat with a large patch of white on his chest, white toes on his paws, a long tail, and a beautiful face with dark brown eyes which have the appearance of being enhanced with black eye shadow/liner, black shading on his muzzle, and large floppy ears. This little sweetheart has a lovable disposition and a friendly outgoing personality. Boris adored HSOV Volunteer Tracy Lynn who graciously helped him with 'glamour photos' on the afternoon on April 11th. Boris was quite the gentleman after he expended some playful energy, and he quickly obeyed the 'sit' command when Tracy asked asked him to settle down (smile). Boris weighs 38 lbs and walks fairly well on a leash. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Boris will be held for three days so that his family will have an opportunity to reclaim him with proof of ownership. UPDATE: Boris was neutered on June 5, 2024 and was also given rabies vaccine.

Story
Hexa is a beautiful adult female dog (possibly a Boxer/Plott Hound mix) who was placed in one of our outside kennels (HSOV in Marietta Ohio) during the overnight- or early morning hours on April 29, 2024. She was accompanied by her female companion Juniper (possibly a Rottweiler mix) who was placed in an adjacent kennel. Neither of the girls were wearing a collar. Hexa has a brown/brindle short smooth coat, a long tail, and a pretty face with brown eyes, a black button nose, and large floppy ears. She appears to be the younger/smaller pair of the duo. Hexa weighs 49 lbs. Both of the girls were understandably nervous/scared being penned up in an unfamiliar place, and they weren't quite ready to put on their happy face and pose for glamour pictures in our outdoor photo area .. So the 'paparazzi' patiently spent time with them and listened to them verbalizing their apprehension in the only way they knew how (by barking and putting up a brave front). After 10-15 minutes or so of quiet conversation on the paparazzi's side of the kennel gate (whispering sweet nothings through the fencing and telling them what good girls they were and that they were in good hands), they eventually began to wag their tails and decided that lady posed no threat to them .. And they relaxed enough in order to take some preliminary photos. We look forward to taking more flattering pictures when the girls realize that they are indeed with their new best friends (our HSOV kennel techs and staff) who love them unconditionally. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, these girls will be held for three days so that their family will have an opportunity to reclaim them with proof of ownership.

Story
Sadie is a beautiful 2-1/2 year old female Boxer mix who was brought to the HSOV on May 5, 2024 by an individual who found her between Macksburg and Marietta Ohio (exact location is unknown). Sadie was not wearing a collar, and she was not microchipped. This sweet little lady has a tan/brown-and-white short smooth coat, a short tail, and an adorable face with dark brown eyes, a black button nose on her short white muzzle, and large semi-erect ears. Sadie has a friendly, easygoing personality and posed perfectly for her glamour photos when HSOV Kennel Tech Emily Beaver accompanied her outdoors on the afternoon of May 7th. Sadie is an easy dog to love, and Emily gave her the attention/loving that Sadie wanted (just as Emily gives all of the shelter dogs who are entrusted to her care). Sadie weighs 50 lbs and isn't a very large dog when you see her in person. Sadie might possibly have suffered an injury to her left front leg/paw at one time in her life (or perhaps a birth defect) since the joint in that leg appears to be dislocated and her left paw is 'twisted'. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Sadie was held for three days so that her family would have an opportunity to reclaim her with proof of ownership .. But nobody called or came looking for her.

Story
These best friends (Phoebe & Monica) were brought to the HSOV late in the afternoon on June 4, 2024 by Good Samaritans who found them on State Route 26 in Washington County Ohio (near Bloomfield Ohio). Neither of the girls were wearing a collar, and they were not microchipped. Phoebe is the younger of pair and is likely about one-year old. She has a sleek black short smooth coat with a white 'lightning bolt' on her chest, a long tail, and a beautiful face with dark brown eyes, a black button nose on her cute muzzle, and semi-erect ears. Phoebe weighs 42 lbs. Monica is estimated to be 3-years old. She has a black short smooth coat with a subtle wavy texture, white paws, a long tail, and a symmetrically-marked face with expressive brown eyes, black freckles on her muzzle, and large floppy ears. Monica weighs 54 lbs. Phoebe and Monica were understandably nervous when they found themselves in an unfamiliar place and couldn't understand what on earth was happening. Thanks to HSOV Executive Director Amy Rogers and Tracy Lynn Moore and our shelter staff who worked together to help these sweet dogs relax and know that they were already loved by them. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Phoebe and Monica will be held for three days so that their family will have an opportunity to reclaim them with proof of ownership. If anyone recognizes Phoebe and Monica or can provide information about them and where their home might be, please call the HSOV at (740) 373-5959.

Story
Bellatrix is a beautiful 3-1/2 year old female Pit Bull Terrier/Blue Heeler mix who was brought to the HSOV on August 12, 2023 by a Good Samaritan after she was found on Lydia Road in the Little Hocking Ohio area about two weeks earlier. That family tried in vain to locate her family before bringing her to us in hopes that we could help find her way home. Bellatrix has a sleek black short smooth coat, a large patch of white/blue ticking on her chest, white/black paws, a cute short tail, and a pretty face with dark brown eyes, a white stripe on her forehead, and short semi-erect ears. The family who kept Bellatrix provided information that they had learned about her while she was at their home: Bellatrix is not good (but not really bad) with cats. She is not good with female dogs but is okay with male dogs. Bellatrix was being fed raw food. She listens pretty well and saying "Bella" in a high pitch voice gets her attention. She is super sweet and loves belly rubs as well as treats. Bellatrix was indeed very sweet and loved attention when these photos were taken soon after she arrived at HSOV. She is a happy girl who loved everyone she met. She is a 'chunky' full-figured girl who tipped the scales at 72.6 lbs. Bellatrix is energetic on a leash. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Bellatrix will be held for three days so that her family will have an opportunity to reclaim her with proof of ownership.

Story
Betty is a beautiful 3-1/2 year old female American Pit Bull Terrier mix who was brought to the HSOV on August 2, 2023 by a Good Samaritan who found her on Brandy Drive in Marietta Ohio. Betty was accompanied by her best friend Veronica who is most likely her sister. Neither Betty nor Veronica were wearing a collar, and they were not microchipped. Betty has a black short smooth coat with an over-sized white bib on her chest, a long tail, and a pretty face with a narrow white stripe on her forehead, a chubby muzzle, and short floppy ears. Betty was 'in a family way' when she entered our shelter and is very pregnant. We anticipate that she will be giving birth to several babies in the near future. Her bestie/sister Veronica is the self-appointed mid-wife since she is always as close to Betty as possible. Betty weighs 75 lbs. Thanks to HSOV Volunteer Tracy Moore for taking Betty & Veronica outdoors (together of course) so that they could have updated glamour photos taken on August 11th. We had taken preliminary photos in their kennel a few days after they arrived, and they were snuggled up close to each other on their large blanket-covered kuranda bed. We had late-breaking news soon after we posted Betty's Petfinder 'baby bump' photos on the evening of August 13, 2023 and will include a birth announcement: Betty gave birth to six healthy puppies. All of the babies and momma Betty are doing well ... And "Aunt Veronica" is also doing well. UPDATE: Four of Betty's babies survived but, sadly, two of the puppies passed away during the month of September 2023. Her four remaining puppies (Curie, Einstein, Franklin, and Newton) have thrived and are happy, playful youngsters who will soon be leaving for their new homes. Betty has been separated from her puppies, and she is ready to begin the next chapter of her life. She will be spayed in the near future and will soon be looking for a fabulous home of her very own.
