Story
Bellatrix is a beautiful 3-1/2 year old female Pit Bull Terrier/Blue Heeler mix who was brought to the HSOV on August 12, 2023 by a Good Samaritan after she was found on Lydia Road in the Little Hocking Ohio area about two weeks earlier. That family tried in vain to locate her family before bringing her to us in hopes that we could help find her way home. Bellatrix has a sleek black short smooth coat, a large patch of white/blue ticking on her chest, white/black paws, a cute short tail, and a pretty face with dark brown eyes, a white stripe on her forehead, and short semi-erect ears. The family who kept Bellatrix provided information that they had learned about her while she was at their home: Bellatrix is not good (but not really bad) with cats. She is not good with female dogs but is okay with male dogs. Bellatrix was being fed raw food. She listens pretty well and saying "Bella" in a high pitch voice gets her attention. She is super sweet and loves belly rubs as well as treats. Bellatrix was indeed very sweet and loved attention when these photos were taken soon after she arrived at HSOV. She is a happy girl who loved everyone she met. She is a 'chunky' full-figured girl who tipped the scales at 72.6 lbs. Bellatrix is energetic on a leash. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Bellatrix will be held for three days so that her family will have an opportunity to reclaim her with proof of ownership.

Story
Betty is a beautiful 3-1/2 year old female American Pit Bull Terrier mix who was brought to the HSOV on August 2, 2023 by a Good Samaritan who found her on Brandy Drive in Marietta Ohio. Betty was accompanied by her best friend Veronica who is most likely her sister. Neither Betty nor Veronica were wearing a collar, and they were not microchipped. Betty has a black short smooth coat with an over-sized white bib on her chest, a long tail, and a pretty face with a narrow white stripe on her forehead, a chubby muzzle, and short floppy ears. Betty was 'in a family way' when she entered our shelter and is very pregnant. We anticipate that she will be giving birth to several babies in the near future. Her bestie/sister Veronica is the self-appointed mid-wife since she is always as close to Betty as possible. Betty weighs 75 lbs. Thanks to HSOV Volunteer Tracy Moore for taking Betty & Veronica outdoors (together of course) so that they could have updated glamour photos taken on August 11th. We had taken preliminary photos in their kennel a few days after they arrived, and they were snuggled up close to each other on their large blanket-covered kuranda bed. We had late-breaking news soon after we posted Betty's Petfinder 'baby bump' photos on the evening of August 13, 2023 and will include a birth announcement: Betty gave birth to six healthy puppies. All of the babies and momma Betty are doing well ... And "Aunt Veronica" is also doing well. UPDATE: Four of Betty's babies survived but, sadly, two of the puppies passed away during the month of September 2023. Her four remaining puppies (Curie, Einstein, Franklin, and Newton) have thrived and are happy, playful youngsters who will soon be leaving for their new homes. Betty has been separated from her puppies, and she is ready to begin the next chapter of her life. She will be spayed in the near future and will soon be looking for a fabulous home of her very own.

Betty was 'in a family way' when she entered our shelter and is very pregnant. We anticipate that she will be giving birth to several babies in the near future. Veronica is the self-appointed mid-wife since she is always as close to Betty as possible. Veronica weighs 50 lbs. She doesn't appear to have been accustomed to walking on a leash but made a noble effort with her best friend Betty by her side. Veronica has a gentle, rather shy, personality. Thanks to HSOV Volunteer Tracy Moore for taking Veronica & Betty outdoors (together of course) so that they could have updated glamour photos taken on August 11th. Story
Kim is a beautiful 2-year old female Pit Bull Terrier/Hound mix who was brought to the HSOV on September 19, 2023 during the overnight- or early morning hours and placed in one of our outside kennels near the front of the shelter building. We don't know if she was an owner surrender or if perhaps someone found her and left her there for her well-being. Kim was not wearing a collar, and she was not microchipped. This gorgeous girl has a black-and-white short smooth coat, white paws, a long tail, and an adorable symmetrically-marked face with soulful brown eyes, a milk chocolate nose, and short floppy ears. Kim's coat has a subtle dark brown shading which is noticeable when she is in the bright sunshine. Kim is understandably a very frightened girl after being left alone in an unfamiliar place with people that she does not yet realize are her new best friends who are giving her unconditional love. These glamour photos of Kim were taken on September 19th 2023 when HSOV Volunteer/Board Member Tracy Moore accompanied her outdoors late in the afternoon. Tracy has gained Kim's trust and kept looking to her for guidance and reassurance while she posed for pictures. Kim loved hearing soft 'baby talk' and hearing what a 'good girl' she was. Kim had the sweetest yet most heartbreaking facial expressions when she looked at Tracy and our photographer with sadness in her eyes. Kim weighs 67 lbs. She didn't appear to have had any walking-on-a-leash experience but she made a noble effort thanks to encourage from Tracy (and even 'jogged' in step with Tracy as they headed back inside the shelter to her kennel). In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Kim was held for three days so that her family would have an opportunity to reclaim her. Sadly nobody called or came looking for this beautiful girl. UPDATE: We are temporarily listing Kim as 'Special Needs' since she tested positive for Lyme Disease and Ehrlichia (tick borne infections) on September 21, 2023 and is currently being given antibiotics. Kim is negative for Heartworm and Anaplasma.

Story
Precious is a beautiful 11-month old female Pit Bull Terrier mix who was surrendered by her family on October 9, 2023. Precious has a brown/brindle short smooth coat with white highlights on her chest, a rather long body, short legs, a long tail, and an adorable face with amber-colored eyes, a liver-colored nose, a chubby muzzle, and large floppy ears. Her family told us that Precious is good with older children and that she does well with other animals (not sure if that includes both dogs and cats). Precious has been kept indoors and is housetrained. These photos of Precious were taken on October 10, 2023 when HSOV Kennel Tech Emily Beaver accompanied her outdoors for glamour pictures. Precious was understandably a little nervous being in an unfamiliar place with people that she did not yet know. She wasn't quite ready to put on her happy face for the camera that afternoon but she put forth a noble effort with Emily's quiet touch. Precious weighs 46 lbs. Precious will be spayed before being adopted by her new family (a requirement for HSOV adoptions to be finalized).

Story
Spice is a handsome 2-1/2 year old male American Pit Bull Terrier mix who was found on Colegate Drive in Marietta Ohio around 10:30am on the morning of October 31, 2023. Fortunately for Spice, a Good Samaritan was able to persuade him to accompany her to the safety of our shelter and away from the busy road where he was roaming around. Spice was not wearing a collar, and he was not microchipped. Spice has a dark brown/brindle-and-white short smooth coat, a long tail, and a beautiful symmetrically-marked face with dark brown eyes, a dark chocolate nose, and short floppy ears. This big boy was understandably very nervous when he was brought to the HSOV. It broke our hearts to see how scared and terrified he truly was. Our compassionate staff and kennel techs are doing their best to calm his fears and to help him realize he is among friends who care about him. These photos of Spice were taken after hours on the evening of October 31, 2023 when HSOV Executive Director Amy Rogers and HSOV Volunteer/Board Member Tracy Lynn Moore teamed up to spend time with Spice and to accompany him for a short walk in order to begin gaining his trust. Our photographer stayed a safe distance away and snapped his pictures 'from afar' so as not to make Spice nervous or feel that he was being pursued. Spice is a friendly boy but tends to be reactive. Spice weighs 55 lbs and has already been neutered. We hope that someone will recognize this boy and help us reunite him with his family. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Spice was held for three days so that his family would have an opportunity to reclaim him with proof of ownership. Sadly, nobody called or came looking for Spice.

This boy has helped raise a family, now he's looking to settle down with one of his own! Alex came to us with a group of other dogs and has thrived under all of the attention he's received. He walks well on the leash and seems dog friendly, if that tail wagging and occasional on leash play bow are any indication. Alex also seems to relish the volunteer attention as well, enjoying a good back scratching from everyone he meets. Anyone else hearing 'Eye of the Tiger'? Our former heavyweight champion, Rocky, is looking for a comeback and needs your help to get back to his best. HSOP is just not equipped for training world champions, but report that his current workout is a brisk walk on a leash, multiple sniff reps followed by 30 sec reps of sit and hold. Rocky isn't all tough guy, though. He is looking for his Adrian, some one to scratch his back and that can be his family. Rocky is currently around 58lbs, 1.5 years. He did come in with a training partner, Duke, and may be willing to join an existing training team but HSOP staff can help facilitate that introduction. Jack is a handsome 12-year old male Bulldog who was surrendered by his owner on August 2, 2023 because he/she was unable to contain him. Jack has a tan-and-white short smooth coat, a tiny docked tail, and an adorable symmetrically-marked face with black shading around his eyes, a black button nose on his cute muzzle, and short floppy ears. His owner told us that Jack is good with other dogs, but it is unknown how he feels about children and cats. Jack has been kept indoors and is house-trained. This sweet guy defies his chronological age and he obviously believes that 'age is just a number' .. Jack was full of playful energy when HSOV Humane Officer Fredley Tynan accompanied him for outdoor photos on August 2nd, and he loved running laps around Fredley to show off his personality and physique. Jack weighs 58.4 lbs and is fairly strong on a leash. Jack has already been neutered, so he could leave our shelter immediately with an approved HSOV adoption application. UPDATE: We've learned that Jack does NOT do well with cats and should not be placed in a home with cats or where he would have any contact with them. Jack has had encounters in the past which did not end well for the cat(s).

Story
Bailey is an adorable 7-1/2 year old female English Bulldog who was surrendered by her owner on December 27, 2023 because she did not get along the other dogs in family's home. This little sweetheart has a snow white coat, a broad chest, a tiny docked tail, and a beautiful Bulldog face with dark brown eyes, teeny white eyelashes, short ears, a black button nose, and a classic short, broad, 'upward-turned' muzzle. Bailey is listed as a 'Special Needs Dog' since she is hearing impaired/deaf. Bailey has a sweet, easygoing personality with her people friends and was a pleasure to photograph when HSOV Humane Officer Fredley Tynan accompanied her for outdoor glamour pictures late in the afternoon on August 2nd. Bailey may look familiar to many of our volunteers (and Facebook fans) since she had been brought to the HSOV on August 2, 2023 and was adopted on August 29, 2023. So Bailey spent four months in her adoptive home. Bailey weighs 48 lbs and walks fairly well on a leash. She has already been spayed. Her adopted family reported that Bailey does not do well with young children but is fine with older children. Bailey is not good with other dogs or cats. She is protective of her food bowl and does NOT tolerate having her nails trimmed. Bailey has been kept indoors and is housetrained. She is crate-trained and was kept indoors in a crate during the night. Bailey spent time in her fenced-in yard for exercise (and she enjoys being a lap dog). Bailey does well being bathed, and she loves to ride in a car. Bailey is currently in foster care. She is available for meet-and-greet and/or adoption with an approved HSOV adoption application.

Story
Duke is a handsome 2-year old male Boxer mix who was brought to the HSOV on January 30, 2024 by a Washington County Ohio Deputy Sheriff who had picked Duke up (along with his beautiful sister Lucy) on Dana's Run Road in the Newport Ohio area. Duke has a dark brown/black short smooth coat in a brindle pattern, a large white bib on his chest, white paws, a long tail, and an adorable symmetrically-marked face brindle/white face with beautiful brown eyes, a black button nose, and short floppy ears. These photos were taken on February 3, 2024 when HSOV Kennel Tech Sydney Satow spent time with Duke for his Petfinder/Facebook/Adoptapet photos. Duke weighs approximately 65 lbs and is very strong on a leash. Duke has already been neutered and was given rabies vaccine on February 14, 2023. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Duke was held for three days so that his family would have an opportunity to reclaim him with proof of ownership. Neither Duke (nor his sister Lucy) were reclaimed. We've learned that Duke does NOT do well with other dogs (or cats), so he would be looking for a home that he did not have to share with other animals.
