Story
Miss Gracie is a happy lady looking for a home to call her own. Despite being a middle aged girl she still has some energy left and would greatly appreciate an outlet for her zoomies before she's ready to snuggle up with you. She is a big fan of toys and loves a good game of tug. She is an instant lover and warms up to people quickly, and is quite the cuddle-bug once you're her friend. Gracie loves her people so much that she would prefer to be the only pet in the home. If you are interested in meeting Gracie, please submit an adoption form on our website: fairfieldcountydogs.com and we will contact you to arrange a time to visit. Primary Color: Black Weight: 67.375 Age: 4yrs 5mths 3wks

Story
Duke is a handsome 2-year old male Boxer mix who was brought to the HSOV on January 30, 2024 by a Washington County Ohio Deputy Sheriff who had picked Duke up (along with his beautiful sister Lucy) on Dana's Run Road in the Newport Ohio area. Duke has a dark brown/black short smooth coat in a brindle pattern, a large white bib on his chest, white paws, a long tail, and an adorable symmetrically-marked face brindle/white face with beautiful brown eyes, a black button nose, and short floppy ears. These photos were taken on February 3, 2024 when HSOV Kennel Tech Sydney Satow spent time with Duke for his Petfinder/Facebook/Adoptapet photos. Duke weighs approximately 65 lbs and is very strong on a leash. Duke has already been neutered and was given rabies vaccine on February 14, 2023. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Duke was held for three days so that his family would have an opportunity to reclaim him with proof of ownership. Neither Duke (nor his sister Lucy) were reclaimed. We've learned that Duke does NOT do well with other dogs (or cats), so he would be looking for a home that he did not have to share with other animals.

Story
Lucy is a beautiful 2-year old female Boxer mix who was brought to the HSOV on January 30, 2024 by a Washington County Ohio Deputy Sheriff who picked Lucy up (and also her good-looking brother Duke) after they were found on Dana's Run Road in the Newport Ohio area. Lucy has a black-and-white short smooth coat with an intriguing pattern, a long tail, and an adorable face with a large black "pirate's patch" around her left eye, a black button nose on her chubby muzzle, and short floppy ears. Lucy has a vivacious outgoing personality and was ready for 'action photos' when HSOV Kennel Tech Bradyn Morris accompanied her for outdoor glamour photos on the afternoon of February 3, 2024. Lucy weighs 47.3 lbs and is surprisingly very strong on a leash since she isn't a very big girl when you see her in person. Lucy has already been spayed and was given rabies vaccine on February 14, 2023. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Lucy was held for three days so that her family would have an opportunity to reclaim her with proof of ownership. Neither Lucy nor Duke were reclaimed. We've learned that Lucy is selective about making friends with other dogs and chooses those that she likes or dislikes. Lucy does NOT do well with cats and should not be placed in home where she would have contact with feline friends.

Story
Hexa is a beautiful young female dog (possibly a Boxer/Plott Hound mix) who was placed in one of our outside kennels (HSOV in Marietta Ohio) during the overnight- or early morning hours on April 29, 2024. She was accompanied by her female companion Juniper (possibly a Rottweiler mix) who was placed in an adjacent kennel. Neither of the girls were wearing a collar. Hexa has a brown/brindle short smooth coat, a long tail, and a pretty face with brown eyes, a black button nose, and large floppy ears. She is the smaller of the pair. Hexa weighs 49 lbs. Both of the girls were understandably nervous/scared being penned up in an unfamiliar place, and they weren't quite ready to put on their happy face and pose for glamour pictures in our outdoor photo area .. So the 'paparazzi' patiently spent time with them and listened to them verbalizing their apprehension in the only way they knew how (by barking and putting up a brave front). After 10-15 minutes or so of quiet conversation on the paparazzi's side of the kennel gate (whispering sweet nothings through the fencing and telling them what good girls they were and that they were in good hands), they eventually began to wag their tails and decided that lady posed no threat to them .. And they relaxed enough in order to take some preliminary photos. We look forward to taking more flattering pictures when the girls realize that they are indeed with their new best friends (our HSOV kennel techs and staff) who love them unconditionally. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, these girls will be held for three days so that their family will have an opportunity to reclaim them with proof of ownership.

Story
These best friends (Phoebe & Monica) were brought to the HSOV late in the afternoon on June 4, 2024 by Good Samaritans who found them on State Route 26 in Washington County Ohio (near Bloomfield Ohio). Neither of the girls were wearing a collar, and they were not microchipped. Phoebe is the younger of pair and is likely about one-year old. She has a sleek black short smooth coat with a white 'lightning bolt' on her chest, a long tail, and a beautiful face with dark brown eyes, a black button nose on her cute muzzle, and semi-erect ears. Phoebe weighs 42 lbs. Monica is estimated to be 3-years old. She has a black short smooth coat with a subtle wavy texture, white paws, a long tail, and a symmetrically-marked face with expressive brown eyes, black freckles on her muzzle, and large floppy ears. Monica weighs 54 lbs. Phoebe and Monica were understandably nervous when they found themselves in an unfamiliar place and couldn't understand what on earth was happening. Thanks to HSOV Executive Director Amy Rogers and Tracy Lynn Moore and our shelter staff who worked together to help these sweet dogs relax and know that they were already loved by them. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Phoebe and Monica will be held for three days so that their family will have an opportunity to reclaim them with proof of ownership. If anyone recognizes Phoebe and Monica or can provide information about them and where their home might be, please call the HSOV at (740) 373-5959.

Story
Loris is a cute one-year old female (possible) Boxer/Hound mix who was brought to the HSOV on July 11, 2024 by a Good Samaritan who found her on Phillip Street in Belpre Ohio. Unfortunately Loris was not wearing a collar, and she was not microchipped. This little sweetheart has a brown short smooth coat with a large patch of white on her chest, a long tail, and a beautiful face with hopeful trusting brown eyes, black shading on her slender muzzle, and large semi-erect ears. Loris has a happy, super-friendly outgoing personality and seems to love everyone who has had the pleasure of meeting her. Loris especially loved HSOV Kennel Tech Emily Beaver who spent time with her outdoors later in the afternoon on July 11th while she posed for glamour pictures and also relaxed in the green grass. Loris is a pushover for attention and is full of playful puppy-like energy. She wiggles all over for attention and already has won the title of 'Best Butt Wiggler Currently In Our Shelter' (smile). Loris weighs 28 lbs and walks fairly well on a leash. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Loris will be held for three days so that her family will have an opportunity to reclaim her with proof of ownership.

I'm a pitty mix that is very friendly! I love both smaller and larger dogs, and don't seem to mind cats. I am shy at first since I have been here since a puppy, but once you spend time with me I want to give you hugs and kisses. I am nervous of men because I haven't been around many, you would need to come and visit me a few times before I feel comfortable. I definitely want to be a lap dog and sleep with you.
