Meet Dixie! This beautiful lady has become a bit of a local celebrity; known for her frequent shelter visits and sightings on social media. Unfortunately Dixie's previous family struggled to keep her contained, and on Dixie's most recent visit to the shelter they chose not to reclaim her. While Dixie has been a bit of an escape artist in the past, we believe with a secure fence and supervision she is not going to be quite the Houdini. Dixie is ready to put her life of puppies, running, and shelter stays behind her. She is well loved by staff and known for her wonderful personality; everyone that meets Dixie remarks on just how sweet and loving she is! ZuZu is a lovely 2-1/2 year old female (possible) Boxer/American Pit Bull Terrier mix who was brought to the HSOV on April 19, 2026 by a Good Samaritan who found her on State Route 555 in the Little Hocking Ohio area. ZuZu was wearing a collar but, unfortunately, there was neither an id tag nor a dog tag on her collar .. And she was not microchipped. ZuZu has a white short smooth coat, a long tail, and a beautiful face with hopeful innocent eyes, a black button nose, a square muzzle, and short floppy ears which are sprinkled with black spotting. This sweet girl has a friendly outgoing personality and loves attention. She appears to have had litters of puppies in her lifetime. ZuZu weighed 36 lbs when she entered our shelter and could easily gain several pounds to fill out her slim trim figure. ZuZu is fairly strong on a leash in spite of her size. These photos of ZuZu were taken on the afternoon of April 24th when HSOV Volunteer Jennie Sherrard accompanied her for outdoor glamour pictures. ZuZu was such a 'good girl' and looked so cute in her heart-covered pink bandana. She thoroughly enjoyed being the center of attention. ZuZu appears to be housetrained, so someone has surely loved ZuZu and cared about her. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, ZuZu was held for the mandatory three-day stray hold so that her family would have an opportunity to reclaim her with proof of ownership. Since nobody called or came looking for her, ZuZu can be fostered or fostered-to-adopt with an approved HSOV foster/adoption application. Since she was not reclaimed, ZuZu went home with a foster family on May 12, 2026 who offered her a fabulous temporary home so that she could enjoy the comfort of a nice home environment instead of being in a shelter kennel/floor crate. Her foster family reports that ZuZu is good with children and other dogs (and our HSOV staff/kennel techs feel that ZuZu is also good with cats). ZuZu is still available for adoption. Please complete/submit an HSOV foster/adoption application if you would like to meet ZuZu so that we may arrange a meet-and-greet with ZuZu and her foster family. Note: ZuZu was returned to HSOV by her foster family on May 30, 2026 for a happy reason (to meet a potential adopter). The meet-and-greet went extremely well, and ZuZu went home with another foster family on May 30th 2026 who planned to adopt her after she was spayed. Unfortunately, ZuZu was returned to HSOV by her foster-to-adopt family on June 26th 2026 because she and the resident dog in the home were not compatible with each other .. So her original foster mother took ZuZu back to her home where she is available for foster/adoption with an approved HSOV foster/adoption application. Update: ZuZu was spayed on July 20, 2026 and was also given rabies vaccine.

Hi, my name is Ruger! You have probably seen my face on the website for a while now. I have been here since I was very small and don't really know much else but the shelter. I'm pretty comfortable here since It's like my home, but I also find it kind of scary sometimes. I find lots of things scary- there is so much that I have never had a proper introduction to, and I have never had an owner to teach me that I can still be safe even when I'm scared. Men are especially scary to me, and even though I have some men I am not scared of, and even like, I think a home without them might be better. I would do best in a calmer home, as well, without children. I woud be a great dog for someone who lives alone and wants a best buddy to share their space with. I like lots of things too! I like stuffed toys and cozy beds, and am often found inside napping while the rest of the dogs go play. I like butt scratches and peanut butter, too. I do like other dogs, but sometimes I need my space too. I like bigger dogs over smaller dogs, but I don't have a problem with smaller dogs. I love to run around in the run here, too, and bask in the sun on warm days. On really warm days, I like to play in my pool. I hope you come to see me, I think I'm ready to finally "leave the nest"!

Hello! My name is Boone and I have been at the shelter since 2024. I am considered a senior, but don't let that fool you- I can still get going when I want to! I love to play chase or fetch in the run, and my favorite thing of all is a walk. I do very well on the leash and have excellent manners. I know when it's time to settle down, though, and on those days you can find me stretched out (and snoring) on my nice bed. I can run and play when I want to get silly, but I am still older, and due to my age, I would like a home without younger kids. Maybe we could be retirement buddies? My favorite toys are squeaky balls and stuffed squeaky toys- although the stuffed squeaky toys never seem to last long around me. My favorite enrichment is the stuffed cardboard boxes and paper towel rolls. I have been to lots of events and places in my time here and am always a superstar. I love meeting people and do well in the car too. I'm ready to hop in one and ride away from here! I am very affectionate, too, I like belly rubs and like to lean against you. I am a "people person" and have never met a stranger! I'll get right in your lap and enjoy cuddles. When it comes to other dogs, though, I like things my way and I'm old enough that I've earned the right not to share! I don't like it when other dogs get in my personal space- after all, who likes a stranger in their face? I would like to have a place - and a person- that's all my own.
