Story
Meet Pickles, an absolutely adorable senior gentleman who is so very happy. Through no fault of his own, this sweet boy is searching for a loving retirement home where he can finally enjoy the care and comfort he deserves.Pickles was found as a stray in rough condition, with matted fur and crusted eyes. When his owner was located, they sadly admitted they could no longer properly care for him and made the difficult decision to surrender him. Despite everything he's been through, Pickles remains a happy, affectionate little guy who greets each day with enthusiasm and a smile. While he may be a senior, Pickles still has plenty of pep in his step. He loves spending time with people of all ages, enjoys a couple of daily walks, and is always curious about what everyone is doing. Whether he's exploring the yard, following his people around the house, or joining you for a car ride, Pickles simply loves being part of the action.Pickles gets along well with other dogs and settles nicely in his crate. He may whine a bit if he can see his people, but he quickly relaxes and sleeps soundly through the night. His favorite place is wherever his humans are.Like many seniors, Pickles does have a few medical needs. He has chronic dry eye in both eyes and requires daily eye medication to keep him comfortable. He also has some broken teeth that need evaluation, and PAWS is already arranging a dental exam for him. His future family should be prepared to administer eye medication three times a day and keep up with regular grooming appointments.Pickles doesn't ask for much—just a soft place to rest, a few walks, and people to love. In return, he'll provide endless companionship, gentle affection, and gratitude for being given the second chance he deserves. This precious boy is ready to spend his golden years surrounded by the love and care he's been missing.Name: PicklesBreed: Shih Tzu/Brussels Griffon   (Breed mix is not guaranteed-no DNA testing done).Sex: MaleAge: 9 years  (estimated)Weight: 13 lbs.Spayed/Neutered: To be scheduledVaccinations: Up to dateHeartworm: Negative on recent testingMicrochipped: YesBASED ON OUR OBSERVATIONS:Good with Children: YesGood with Dogs: YesGood with Cats: Unknown Adoption Fee: $200Location of dog currently:  New EnglandIMPORTANT INFORMATION - Paws New England is a foster-based rescue; our dogs reside in various locations throughout the south & New England.  Adoption donations cover pre-adoption veterinary costs (including vaccinations, spay/neuter when age-appropriate, and heartworm testing/treatment when necessary), a microchip, and transportation to New England, if necessary.Donations for our young, healthy puppies and dogs support their fellow canines of advanced age or suffering from injuries and abuse, whose donations are reduced but whose veterinary costs are typically much higher. Story
First things first, did you see what she looks like with a full head of hair? SO scruffy. Grooming is required to keep her from getting matted and having to be fully shaved down (I.E. her photos now)   If you ordered “one tiny best friend with absolutely no concept of personal space,” congratulations: Broccoli Cheddar has arrived.  This sweet little puppy girl is equal parts cuddle bug, toy chaser, and professional face-kisser. At around 12-ish pounds, she may be small, but her personality is huge. If you sit down, there is a very good chance she will immediately attempt to climb into your lap and smother you with affection. BC LOVES fetch!  Broccoli Cheddar is still young and has plenty of puppy energy, but she’s also the kind of dog who settles quickly once she gets her zoomies out. She loves chew toys, stuffies with squeakers, soft blankets, and snuggling up with her people after a busy day. She’s currently living with dogs of all sizes and doing great. She’s playful when invited, respectful when the other dogs want space, and has a naturally submissive personality that keeps her out of trouble. Her Texas foster also reported that she previously lived with cats successfully. A few things she’s still working on: House training is coming along, but she sometimes gets distracted outside and forgets to finish business before coming back in. A consistent routine is key for avoiding accidents. She can be a little nervous in new environments at first, but gains confidence quickly.  She walks well on leash overall, though she does weave around a bit.   She LOVES people and is still learning that launching herself face-first into someone for kisses is not always appreciated.   She does well in her crate, rides okay in the car, and would likely thrive in a home that wants an affectionate, social little sidekick. She’d probably love kids who are old enough to handle her enthusiastic energy and constant kisses. Also, in case you were wondering: yes, she suckles on soft blankets when she’s cozy, and it’s ridiculous levels of adorable. Broccoli Cheddar is ready to bring entertainment, cuddles, and an endless amount of love into your life.     This dog is up to date on vaccinations and is spayed or neutered. (Please note: Puppies under 3 months old may not be sterilized prior to adoption. If this is the case, your adoption coordinator will provide guidance on the process.)   To adopt or learn more about this dog, you must complete an adoption application, which can be found on our website: www.sandypawsrescue.com.   PLEASE READ:     •    If a dog or puppy is listed, they are currently available for adoption. However, they may already be pending an adoption, and their profile may not yet reflect this.     •    All information is accurate to the best of our knowledge as of the posting date.     •    Unless explicitly stated, Sandy Paws Rescue does not guarantee the breed of any dog. Breeds listed are educated guesses made by shelter staff, volunteers, or veterinarians. Many of our dogs are mixed breeds, often with pit bull-type genetics, resulting in a wide variety of physical traits and temperaments.   Our dogs come from various situations, such as kill shelters, owner surrenders, or as strays. It is likely both parents were mixed breeds as well.   Sandy Paws Rescue does not have a public shelter in Massachusetts. Our dogs reside in private foster homes or boarding kennels in the South until adopted. Many dogs are spoken for prior to transport or release from state-mandated isolation.   For information on adoption fees, procedures, or FAQs, visit our website: www.sandypawsrescue.com.   The FIRST step in adopting from Sandy Paws Rescue is to submit a completed adoption application.   ##2728871##
