She needs a home with toys, walks, a window to be nosy and a fenced yard to sniff and run in. Oh! And you-- to sit next to! Chanel is easy to crate when you have to leave. A people pleaser, that just needs that special one on one time. She is alert, at first, to any new sounds. So apartment living, may not suit her. But Chanel definitely relaxes into a pretty quiet girl to be with. No accidents in the house, very smart and squirrels and birds do not bother her, one bit. Loves sitting on the deck, and having long conversations! Only 12 pounds, and an easy coat to maintain, is a plus!! Chanel does need to be the only pet in the home, she wants ALL the love and is picky on what other dogs she would get along with. ALL animals are in foster homes as we do NOT have a  shelter where you can visit. Some animals are in foster care in New England, and some are located in other states. If the initials following the animals name are a state, then that is the state where the animal is located. If initials are not a state, then those are the initials of the foster home outside of New England and you will not be able to meet the animal ahead of time. Complete our online application You will be contacted by phone or email by the foster parent  or a member of our adoption team and will have the opportunity to find out more about the animal, and ask any questions that you have to ensure the animal is a good fit for your household. If the animal is local, you can meet the animal, but you would not be able to take the dog home until you are approved to adopt.  From our end, we will check references and schedule a home visit.  If you live in an apartment, or a condo, we will need to verify permission to own the animal from your landlord or condo board. Please let your vet’s office and references know we will be contacting them. If your  references are positive, we will schedule a home visit by a volunteer. Please try to accommodate the home visit volunteer as most  have busy schedules. Delays in the visit will result in a delay in the adoption. Once you are approved, you will receive an e-mail with your  adoption contract attached. This e-mail will have details about pick up, the balance of the adoption fee that is owed, etc. Please email your signed & witnessed contract and pay your adoption fee in full, and for any animals located out of state, you will be contacted for details about transport to New England. Once you have paid your adoption fee in full and sent back your contract, you can make arrangement to pick up your animal from the foster home or from transport depending on where the animal is located. Please bring a harness, collar, ID tag and leash when you are picking up the dog unless otherwise instructed by the foster parent. Our extensive approval process is intended to ensure the best fit between our animals and adopters. Friends of Homeless Animals (FOHA) reserves the right to deny any adoption application with or without disclosure of cause. Your adoption fee helps to cover the cost of all age appropriate vetting and transportation. Lovey and Ladybug are a bonded pair of cuties looking for their new home. We believe these girls are both between 12 - 14 years old. Lovey is a Papillion mix who weighs just over 8lbs and Ladybug is a Brussels mix who weighs a little over 14lbs. These two girls love to cuddle together on their elevated dog beds. Lovey can be a little protective of Ladybug if another dog tries to join them. But, overall they are both great with dogs and people. Lovey's tongue has a mind of its own and will lick you constantly if you let her. Lovey's biggest health issue is stage B2 mitral valve disease. She is currently on one heart medication daily and should have another echo in 5-6 months. Lovey is spayed, toothless, up to date on vaccines, and recently had full blood work. Ladybug has a history of seizures although we have never seen one in the months she's been with us. She currently takes one seizure medication daily. Ladybug has stage B1 mitral valve disease and is not on any heart medication at this time. Ladybug is spayed, just had all her teeth removed, up to date on vaccines, and recently had full blood work. These two girls have so much love to give and we hope to find them an amazing home together where they can be spoiled! Panda is a 3-year-old male Shih Tzu mix and a charming tripod who’s ready for his forever home. He was rehomed twice and ultimately surrendered to Broken Tail Rescue after his second owner failed to provide proper care; now he’s recovering and looking for a loving, stable family. Medically, Panda recently underwent a sedated groom to remove severe matting, had X‑rays and bloodwork completed, and recovered from a right-rear leg amputation. Because of his amputation, Panda should be carried up and down full sets of interior stairs. Personality-wise, Panda is affectionate and gentle, preferring to be near people; he’s not a big barker but will cry if left alone. He walks well on leash, is housetrained with a schedule, and gets along with other small dogs. Panda’s ideal home would be with someone who works from home, an active retiree, or a multi-generational household — a calm, patient family ready to give him the consistency and closeness he loves. Because of Panda’s amputation, single-floor living is most desirable. Panda is up to date on immunizations and is on a 12-month heartworm prevention protocol. Panda is fostering in Central Massachusetts. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label. We expect that all adopted dogs will enroll in a formal dog training class with their new owners. Obedience and training classes are an excellent way to learn more about your newly adopted dog, gain handling and training experience, and improve your relationship with your pet.
