Story
Maizy is an energetic, people-loving, 6-year-old, Red Heeler/Pit mix who enjoys walks, snuggling, playing fetch, and looking out the window. She is a smart dog who sits, lays down, and shakes on command. Originally a rescue from Houston, Maizy has been a great companion dog for us. However, she struggles to get along with our cat and neighborhood dogs. She does incredibly well as a house-trained and crate-trained pet. She loves to be next to you on the couch while watching TV or reading. She gets very excited to meet new people. Maizy does not like fireworks and thunder. We love her, but a change in our day-to-day living and her inability to coexist with our other (older) pet means we have to re-home her after 5 wonderful years. *Depending on climate, we have seen some allergy issues (scratching) with Maizy.

Story
Trigger is such a sweet boy. My sister was his owner and she passed away about a year ago. As a family, we thought we could care for him, but we are unable to meet his needs. He is currently living with my mom who is 77 and unable to walk him. My sister got him from a shelter when he was about two years old and he is between 8 and 9.For some reason, he does not like to go up or down stairs inside of a home. A slab or ranch style home would be best. He has no problem claiming stairs at parks or outdoor areas, so we believe something bad happened to him when he was young that makes him avoid indoor stairs. Trigger would do best in a home without other pets. He has lived with other pets, but he is most happy as an only pet. He needs to be walked every day and a fenced in yard would be best. As he has gotten older, he responds better to the pet food that supports senior dogs for easier digestion. He is playful and loving. He loves to cuddle! We love him, just need better for him!

Taco isn’t looking for a marathon training partner, he’s much more interested in short walks, feeling good, and getting back to his favorite activity: being a couch potato. He’s the perfect companion for someone who enjoys a more relaxed lifestyle! Taco also loves going for car rides, so he’d be happy to be your co-pilot for adventures around town or wherever the road takes you. Especially if the road takes you to a drive-thru! Because if there’s one way to Taco’s heart, it’s through his stomach. This boy LOVES his food, which makes him very easy to motivate with treats and meal time. Taco is not a match for cats. He may be able to live with another dog, but his ideal canine roommate would be a super laid-back, easygoing dog who won’t overwhelm him. If you’re looking for a lovable little chunk who would happily spend his days snuggled up beside you, Taco might just be your guy. Taco's adoption fee is $250 and includes his neuter, microchip, current vaccinations and preventatives, plus a free basic obedience course at Cedar Run Company in Hiawatha. Sarge is good with kids, he will require a home with no other animals and a secure 4' fence or higher. Sarge is good with women only, we do not know his background but have learned that men are ultimately not a fit for him. Sarge's adoption fee is $250 and includes his neuter, microchip and current vaccinations.  Last Hope requires that all animals be kept as indoor pets only, be altered and current on vaccinations.
