This handsome bridle boy is happiest when he's running and playing fetch.  Atlas is well trained and knows how to sit, shake, stay, lay down, wait, come, leave it and get up. Atlas is also muzzle trained, he prefers to wear this when meeting strangers or doing scary things like visiting the vet's office.  Atlas would thrive in an active home with adults only who are dog savvy and maintain a relatively quiet home life. We don't know all of his background, but we know that strangers in the home are scary to Atlas and he isn't sure if he's supposed to protect you from them or not!  Atlas loves to play, so another playful dog in the home would make for a perfect match! Atlas is kennel and potty trained, and also loves to give kisses. A 4-6 foot high fenced in yard would be a dream come true for ol' Atlas, here he could run and play to his hearts content and maybe learn some more impressive commands with a little help from his new family. Hello! My name is Bambi. I am THE sweetest 1-year old Staffordshire Terrier/Boxer mix weighing in at around 50 lbs. I was found roaming the streets with nowhere to go and was taken to an overcrowded shelter where my chance at a better life was limited. Then, I joined the APL family! At the shelter I was nominated the "helper dog in playgroups. I get along with everyone, humans and dogs, and with my sweet disposition, I was very much a staff and volunteer favorite. I just love, love. To give love, to receive love, I love it all, from anyone. I thrive off being a part of a family. I am always smiling and my foster parents say I have the softest fur. One of my favorite things is my Care Bear. I love to carry my bear around the house. When I am excited, which is about 95 percent of the time, I tend to bounce and hop around like a deer, which is how I got my name. I am the queen of wiggles and have earned the nickname "wiggle butt. My tail is always wagging so you have to watch where it's swinging because it kind of has a mind of its own (so I've been told). My day starts out at 5 am, then I eat breakfast. I hang out in my kennel while my foster parents are at work and once they're home, it's game on. I love to play with my furry foster siblings and really enjoy sticks and pig ears. I would thrive with an active family who will take me on adventures and provide me some basic training. I am still working on not pulling on my leash but I am very trainable and eager to learn because I love to please my people! I'm also a bit of a water buffalo so when out and about, a good potty routine is important for me. I keep my kennel dry and sleep like a princess at night too. I am going to make the most loyal and devoted companion for the right family. Bambi is up to date on vaccinations, heartworm tested, microchipped and spayed. She would do best in a home with a fenced in yard so she can run and play safely. Adopters must be within a two-hour radius of Cedar Rapids, IA. Indoor homes only. Porkchop is seeking a super stable home, with an experienced dog owner.  He can be your couch potato partner if you bribe him with belly rubs, or your backyard companion helping to rid the yard of birds and squirrels (and tennis balls, too!).  Porkchop is super food motivated, so it was easy to train him to sit and we know he'll do great learning lots of other new commands.  He loves to be with his person, and can be somewhat standoffish with new people or situations.  Porkchop will need to be your only dog in the home, or possibly paired with a very docile and confident larger female dog.  Pushy or over friendly dogs don't mesh well with his personality.  No kids or cats for Porkchop, please! You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Nala really wants to make sure you have room in your bed and on your couch as napping is her #1 priority!  Nala likes to sleep in and has no desire to get up early in the mornings.  Once she decides to get up for her day, she does love a game of fetch, chewing on some toys, and making sure she gets fed.  Nala weighs 100 lbs and a DNA test shows she is 100% American Bulldog.  She does have some seasonal allergies that can flare up, but being fed high quality food has helped keep her mostly itch-free.  Nala does well with other easy-going dogs, as she can get bossy if other dogs are getting too excited or in her face.  She also gets along fine with the senior cat in her foster home.  A 5-6 foot privacy fence would be best for Nala, although other options may be considered. When you first meet Nala, she will be sure to let you know she is excited to meet you!!
